Old computers and servers should be preserved also I would love to see more videos of this old beauty also what year is it Because to me it looks from around 2002/2003

So strange seeing that, I have one of these that I have been slowly upgrading, I wanted to get the extra backplane for more SAS drives, have upgraded the CPU's and been on the look out for another PCI riser and need to shop for some more RAM. Shame it is so old now that it's getting harder to find parts. Did you take any temp reading for the CPU before/after?
@CobsTechАй бұрын
Since this was back in 2020, likely not. I do still have them around though as plans for some upcoming projects so I could always compare against one with 2x 2620's and this one with the single 2643. I don't think I ended up adding the second one and a second heatsink in.

Good to see you back. I assume this is a 5462 E5 Version 3 CPU's. I have a few of these and for playing around have the SDCard adapter for a V7 ESXi. I would also suggest getting an ML2 riser (if you dont have one) i have a spare ML2 10 Gb adapter that you need one.
@CobsTechАй бұрын
@@MySmartHomeDomain I shall certainly have a look as VMware and ESXI is something I’ve been looking to play with recently. Will have to see if I’ve got any spare ML2 cards as I remember having to buy a couple for my X3850 X6’s. Trying to get back into the swing of things, illness, work and other unfortunate recent events has just been holding me back. Plenty of videos I’ve made and just decided I didn’t want to upload them due to shakiness of the camera and clearly not being too well at the time.

Access RAID Controller BIOS: During the system startup, watch for a prompt to enter the RAID controller’s BIOS (usually something like “Press Ctrl + H” or “Ctrl + M”). This varies depending on the specific RAID controller in your IBM System X3650. Check for Delay Settings: Once inside the RAID BIOS, navigate through the menu to find options related to disk detection or initialization. Look for settings like "Spin-up delay" or "Disk detection timeout." These are often under the advanced settings or controller configuration sections. Adjust Delay Times: If there are delays set for disk detection or initialization, such as a spin-up time for the drives, you can reduce or disable them if appropriate for your setup. Save and Exit: After making changes, ensure you save the settings and exit the RAID BIOS. Your system will then continue booting as usual.

I desperately wanted to do exactly what you did, I found a Proliant ML350E single Xeon for $50.00, I wanted to put in TrueNas Scale and use it as my main data vault. Unfortunately the F5 for raid configuration doesn't even load the GUI, and F10 doesn't load Inteligent Provisioning, it just tries to load an OS and loops. ;( As if part of the BIOS is missing. I have a very big and very loud paperweight ugh.
@CobsTech3 ай бұрын
Not a paperweight yet! Unfortunately the G8 series as a whole was plagued with nand that eventually dies except for the later revisions. What's happened is your nand is likely dead, it'll probably show up a warning in iLO too as a self test error. It means Intelligent Provisioing will be unavailable, same for the P420i/raid cards built in config utility as it uses the same intelligent provisioning system. Track down a copy of HPA Bootable SSA. It's basically a live linux USB version of the raid config utility. Alternatively, if you have a Windows to Go USB, boot that, install the HP SSA config utility on to that and then you can configure your raids as normal. If that's too much, it might be worth getting a HBA for it, such as the HP H200 and then you won't have to worry about raids at all or the nand being toast. Hope this helps :) Have been meaning to make more videos but haven't been well enough the past few months and had some other things come up.
@jacquesredmond3 ай бұрын
@@CobsTech I found the the HPA SSA, but not a bootable form. Windows to Go was removed from Windows 10 and is no longer available from Microsoft's site, so I ordered an HP 200 from Hong Kong (sigh), no instant fix for me. LOL. I also have an HP ML310e Gen8 V2 that works perfectly, now I have to worry about that one going blink in the future with the NAND? (CRY). This is all supposed to be for a NAS and reliability...just insane. Out of desperation I bought a DELL PowerEdge T310 server to have a backup of my data on another NAS box. LOL.
@jacquesredmond3 ай бұрын
@@CobsTech Update on your suggestion. I ordered the HP H200 and the fans went nuts, only settling to mid, which can be heard throughout the entire house, but IT WORKED... I went though all the BIOS settings to use minimum power to try to calm the fans down, no luck. I removed the H200 and the fans were so nice and quiet. It seems a simple expansion card (with just a single 500GB HD to test things) made the fans go crazy. I have to say, I am really not liking HP... I have the ML310e Gen8 V2 and now the ML350E, they are so... "precious" and picky. When I had these issues with the HP, I bought a Dell Poweredge T310, it is a TANK, I bought it from Goowill for $19 plus $8 shipping, plugged it in, installed TrueNas Scale, popped in four 4TB SAS drives, it has been a rock for the past month. I like it so much I bought ANOTHER as an emergency spare. LOL

Great overview. I bought one of these a few years ago at a thrift store for $75 with no ram and only one drive cage, no drives. It did come with 2 processors though, which was nice. Since then, I have scrounged together some ram sticks, another drive cage and more drives than I have slots for. More RAM is on the way, and I am trying to find a LFF cage that isn't crazy-expensive now. Still working on this thing. My plan is to run a media server, my security cameras/DVR, and some home automation. With all that running, it still stays quiet except when booting. Then it sounds like a jet taking off.
@CobsTech4 ай бұрын
Haha I know the feeling of them being jets when they first turn on, though, they do go nice and quiet after. This one's stayed mostly the same except I recently upgraded the RAM to 64GB too as it was running a little low. Curious what you're going to use for security cameras, I previously used iSpy64.

I believe a server works just like a pc, I guess I´m about to find out. Do you know if a server have a "C:" drive separate from the storage drives where I install the server os? There are a sd card slot and a usb port in it are one of them the place for the os?

i have a HP DL580 G7 but won't fire up? i have a amber power light and on the little panel there is a red light flashing after i have pressed the power on but no life coming from it whatsoever, could you shed any light on it, i have changed to psu's but still same. thanks
@CobsTech7 ай бұрын
Red usually indicates a board failure but can be anything from a faulty PSU to no memory to bad PCIe card etc. If you have iLO access, you should still be able to login and see what the error is there. Alternatively, see if any specific things light up on the panel. What red flashing light on the panel is it?
@BTC_4ME7 ай бұрын
@@CobsTech hi. Thanks for getting back. It didn’t think it would be possible to get the ip address with it not actually powering up but I will try it although never done it in my life ever. The red light is just flashing it has like a heart monitor symbol next to it but that’s all it does flash. I have changed all the psu’s but they give no green light at the back either. I have reseated the ram cartridges thinking maybe that but to no avail. I bought it from eBay only 4 days ago and it arrived this morning the guys described it as fully working etc but actually lied it seems. So because he is now ignoring me on the request of my money back I thought maybe it could be a easy fix. On the motherboard there a a small display that displays the numbers 5.2 them changes to 8.0 or vice versa cause I’m not sure the way of facing for it tbh but the number 8 flashes
@CobsTech7 ай бұрын
@@BTC_4ME Hey, no worries, unfortunately from my research it seems like it may be a failed motherboard sadly. Can you popout the system insight display and let me know what lights are flashing or lit on it?
