It's one of the few pointless fights that I never finished, the first and last time I fought him he was in poor health, so he killed me and I had to avoid this fight, and when I found out what Richie's life was, I swore to myself that I would never fight him again

Honestly there is a genuine mystery to Lenny. Did he know? If he did why not tell the others? Did he orchestrate the death by introducing the two into the franchise? If he did what does he gain? If he did have a call who was on the other line? Does he remember Alex? Why was he the sole survivor?

After you watch this enough times you start to feel like this has to have happened somewhere at some point in time. The dev went above and beyond in this scene in regards to both the writing and the ambience

A lot of the characters in LISA: The Pointless are based off of real people Ed knew. For example, Gold Diamond/John Johnson is based loosely off Clovis (also another dev).

D in Pointless' wiki "Imp D. is based off of a neighbor Ed had in his flat block as a child. This neighbor had an awful smelling apartment, and would often go out to fill plastic bottles with puddle water. Not knowing his name, Ed and the neighboring kids simply referred to the man as "Imp.""

I feel like Ed being a non-native English speaker adds to the Lynchian atmosphere of this scene specifically. He knows English well but the overly-formal phrases and quaint word choices really conveys the absurdity of what are essentially a group of old men LARPing as warlords in a years (decades?) long play gang-war suddenly having to reconcile with mortality and the final death of hope in a doomed world. All-the-while speaking in exaggerated slang and staying in character as the influence of a supernatural death cult causes them to murder each other.

I like how desensitized and unfazed they are, really adds to the theme of hopelessness and pointlessness. It kinda feels like they’re talking past each other too. Really makes you feel like it’s over, pointless.
