Hi Steve, I’ve never said you can use E-Link as it hasn’t got an Xpressnet port. You don’t need a controller either to run HM7000 decoders, just the app and the correct mains adapter to the track. The legacy dongle will connect into Elites, or Selects and this is so you can run non-Bluetooth decoders via the app. Hope this helps, Andy👍

Feb Modeller points out Hornby decoder will not fit but does not recommend one that will! I would revise top speed to be quite low possibly at around a third of top CV value, I believe some have trashed their No.1, mostly I suspect through high speed running! Noting you fitted a ESu 5 Micro what model number and in a TT3 loco were you able to update to 6 beats to sound revolution.

The bell chimes are great and it’s always been a low volume output even when put in TT or OO models, compared to HM7000 or Zimo. If I had the choice I’d go Zimo but, Hornby did mislead us all a little with this one. Well, the first best and free step to start is to download SCARM software (for free) then to make a room, choose a track manufacturer and than to draw layout which you like. I think Z21 (black one) is the best and the most supported variant. I'm not happy of Rocos, but Z21 products were made by a lot of very clever guys from different companies. This thing could support best decoders on market (Zimo MS/MN) and can deal with sounds, update for free without additional things. Also Z21 got a lovely addition boxes like detectors, signal control and so on. Also it could show the name of the locomotive. But if you got more money Zimo MX33 with a command center would be hi end product. As a lazy men I can tell that this video is a hard to catch of any newcomers. It is not your fault, despite it could be shorter. But model train is still too complicated and digital era could not help. I think for the better understanding should be make some prepare work like for education process. - too much different objects on the screen make a little trash in a head instead of clearity - some parts should wait next videos, because it is ok for skillful guys but not for a new So the most difficult not to make a whole range video, but a short juice information part for a 15-20 minutes that could easily stays in mind. (I have the same problem) Rocos Z21 videos are the great example how to tell hard things in the most efficient way. As I told you could use their idea how to make video, because you have potential for that. Wires.... Well, how to buy a good wires if it doesn't sells for a private customers? The really great wires produced by Habia, Alfawires and so on. The really cool PTFE and some very modern other materials which are needed at least for a locomotive work. You need to make a lot of steps, behind the price, to obtain them. One more thing... I see that many layout guys moved away from a driving fun. And we do not see really great locomotive behaviour which should be, except some very rare modellers. I need to remind that really great speed should starts from 5 minutes for an inch and also quality exponential acceleration.

DCC a totally unrealistic method of controlling a Model Railway that bears absolutely no resemblance to how real railways "OPERATE " ! Indeed it's aimed Commercially at those who want a Semi Automated Toy Train Set, and the horrendous cost is of course designed to earn the manufacturer large Profits. It's quite bluntly, fundamentally Childish !
@modeloco11 күн бұрын
@@railwaymechanicalengineer4587It’s good we don’t all think alike. Our feelings are almost polar opposite in fact on your latest post here but, that’s okay. Loaded adjectives like ‘toy train sets’ and ‘childish’ etc aside, let’s try stick to a soul based conversation about this, if not, it simply becomes a battle of egos that survive and thrive on division. The success of DCC speaks for itself and it brought me back into this hobby because the ability to run multiple locomotives at once on the same connected layout with sound and now other things on top is superb. No manufacturer springs to mind that do actually manufacture anything to break even or for minimalist gains as their intention. I’m sure most of us would love to come up with a better alternative to money as a carrot to drive investment. A better way of helping all and a system that has indeed led to outrageous gains for a select few, whilst most grapple with a constant spiraling down of wealth in a debt based economy. The cost of living says more about how little our money is actually worth not how much things are. I don’t think Hornby or Digitrax, being the two I mention really here, are exactly rolling in large profits or anywhere near, as you state above as being outrageous. If they were then fair enough and especially when put into context with the faceless corps’s who actually are, literally earning billions as western countries and their debts rocket toward uncontrollable. If anything it’s DCC and these innovations and those investing in these that do the heavy lifting for others to take advantage of and it’s this that keeps the hobby moving forward. From a soul level I love the past and we let those things go at our peril, like thatched roofing, a roaring fire and steam, good cooked homemade food with natural water but, DCC has too many advantages to simply shout down in this way, unless you’ve just brought a buzzing DC transformer to market only to find the market has left town?
@railwaymechanicalengineer458710 күн бұрын
@modeloco IGNORANCE IS BLISS THEY SAY ??? The success of DCC is guaranteed when its Commercially aimed at the masses ! Maybe you need some tuition in Marketing & Advertising ? So it matters absolutely NOT whether it can accommodate realistic Railway Operational methods. And yes I have both qualifications in Engineering with real Railway Companies, having worked for BR, three Japanese Railways, and the New Zealand Government Railways, amongst others. And further in the past I've worked in both Marketing & Advertising with a London Newspaper ! So I'm fully aware of all the issues concerning signalling in relation to DCC. Obviously you are unaware a well known German manufacturer "Fleischmann", solved the gaping hole in DCC with regard to its total lack of interface with signalling, around 17 years ago. Having spent over £2 Million on refining DCC. Only to have its new DCC products "Blacked" by the huge American NMRA Club (over 2 Million members), as "not compliant with American requirements". Hence DCC is still locked in the Stone Age. As European Block Signalling systems are NOT understood by U.S Modellers, as they are happy with the American CTC (Central Traffic Control - which is radio verbal authorisation to move a train), so requires few signals. Except to protect the odd junction between different Railroads. And Fleischmann, were almost Bankrupted in the process, and are now part of the Roco (Austria) group ! So DCC is still a half baked piece of junk, that is not taking advantage of its own potential ! The only electrical Model Railway system that ever solved all the issues was TCC (Track Circuit Control). A system I and a senior BR Chief Signalling Engineer, designed back in the late 1970's to provide major "Clubs" with the methods to get signalling on exhibition layouts, to function as per real life Railway Operating methods ! And it only costs a tiny fraction of DCC, about 12% in reality . Indeed when you know how, a "Track Circuit" cost just One Penny ! Happy Modelling ! 😝

@ That’s a great response and yes, can be very naive at times, can’t we all. Isn’t it part of being human, though even this is being undermined and labelled. Even believing in a greater power beyond the five senses is slowly being sold off as something else to medicate but, that’s connected to the programming and trying to fathom out why on earth anyone would want to do these things and why many give away their power or settle for third class when they deserve first has always been beyond me too but, that goes deep. This can be both a blessing and a curse at times to see the division created. No doubt the company you mention here fell victim to this kind of not what’s best but rather, what we can get away with for maximum gain and least effort. The old Betamax vs VHS springs to mind. It would seem we aren’t as polar opposite in thought as first assumed. Having just soaked up the 2025 Hornby latest then my fears that innovation would succumb to more about marketing, as you call it and the hope that 30 something’s from a survey, want glossy boxed DC Santa trains with battery control or whatever may please you, I don’t know but, they seem a lot more like the toys you referred to earlier? It does seem to go in a cycle. It was a good run from 2020 so hey Ho, let it go. For me it’s rather the forces now behind the wheel or securing the loans and not the brands themselves that can make, break or seed their own demise. It will save me lots of money this year, though do like the Dublo A4. All the best, no tongues needed, not interested in winning, that implies there’s division, just promoting what one feels is best for the hobby both of us and as we’ve touched on in other discussions, do think iTrain and Yamorc now cover UK signaling but, that never got a response from recollection, maybe you don’t like these brands involved either. Maybe I’m being naive. More important than ever to speak our truths 👍 Que sera, sera Andy

In my experience I find having a healthy balance is key. I can get so lost in doing one aspect of the hobby that other things suffer. If I can’t get that back in balance or it takes over then I take a break from that part of it. Saying you’re terrible is hard to react to as you may just be saying this in a light hearted way, somewhere in between or actually feeling very down hearted by that judgement. Where does that verdict come from? When it comes to you saying ‘packed’ and buying more or adding stuff there’s a rush of adrenaline that can become addictive, take over or maybe, if you’ve an obsessive side it can be the urge to get every building in a collection or every coach in each set. You can begin with best intentions then these can creep in or take over and that’s when, I’d say, we have to get back on track a bit that’s all. I’d never say let go of something you love completely, unless it’s making you desperately unhappy and you really feel that’s the only solution but, I’d say a few simple tweaks like reaching out here are a good start if you are wanting to make some space. @@rogthedodge99 Hello, It’s Andy btw. Exploding decoders wow that’s sounds a little like fear mongering though any decoder can just blow from time to time. Had my share. I was happy old vs new seemed to match on my lesser incline so my antenna went up when you seem to feel a little less happy than myself. A die cast body would definitely help but, bump up cost to get probably an additional 2/3 coaches. Also feel the simpler but, sometimes added weighting has possibly given way to the smoke generator parts necessary so maybe being a bit lighter over the drive wheels than on other models you’ve tried. I acquired the older model Black 5 from Hattons who tested it and said it was ok. No doubt they did the test on a bit of straight track. There were numerous problems when I got it, some of which will apply to the new model. The front bogie derailed round curves of 2nd and third radius because they fouled on the front steps which I removed. The tender doors fouled the loco on curves and needed to be bent inwards quite a lot. The motion locked up on curves and had to be gently tweeked and the tender pickups were not contacting when the wheels were at full width and the rear o/s driving wheel was fouled by the tender connecting wires. Now it is a lovely runner but some who have the new one might find difficulties on 2nd radius points and tight curves, particularly, as has been well documented, in relation to the loco to tender connection. I can't run to the new one as yet but my existing one is now a gem.

I’m not that deep into cameras, lenses, settings and post. I want to capture things as they happen. I use iMovie but, have tried Final Cut Pro though it has more settings to configure and watch. 60 fps takes up far more hard drive space. I can also see why many influencers though appearing to be one guy and a smart phone are in reality also using very good shoulder based cameras too and have a team or usually a parent or someone close doing the editing, script and post production, even sponsors tailoring scripts. You probably and rightly so, pick on my weakest link here and as a post production type may find it baffling or that I’m simply lazy but, that’s far from the truth. I’ve invested heavily in equipment but, compared to a Post production facility it’s minuscule no doubt. PS 1. When you say green scratched wood, do you mean my modelers cutting mat? 2. What do mean by Profi? 3. Lok, Big Lok, no idea what you mean I turn the camera on and work. 4. I place the camera best where it won’t obstruct me as a wobbling, knocked camera is worse. I’ve experimented with a stand next to me and do now cut to these as and when I can but, I’m in a confined space in fact I do call it my Mac cave All good, Andy 👍

@modeloco well, I'm steel very curious who you want to be here with your projects, because you done everything opposit to usual advices in this theme and stiil try to defend it instead of simple try it. Seems you spray your money and time to things which have no effect at all. I see you try to do some things very professional, some of them too much. - those idea of 25fps was a nice joke for me from your support team, no any special UK standards, electricity issues and so on. It was the idea in 80s with PAL/NTSC as well. But now you've got PC, smartphones and independing monitors. The only important thing is to get 60 or at least 50 fps KZbin status. That is the only standard you need to meet. - who you are with a video can tell cup of wine, because some guys like Schulz like to seat in front of camera with a layout background and a glass of beer and for a hour discuss situation with locs, model shops and so on. I have no question for their video quality, because the aim is different with yours - well, you still tell me about money. Have you seen Matt Damon adventure on Mars? He make things from what he got. Just do the same and you do not need to invest. You have to find the way to deal with Premier or what so ever until you receive status 60FPS from KZbin, no matter how. I've using old 4k smartphone with water flex tubes. They cost nothing. Just bend them to right point and everybody would be happy. But you still didn't even seen those guy who I gave to you to see how he found right place from his shoulder. - do not have place on SDD? Me to. Delete videos after uploading, do not make long videos, people would rewind it anyway. For me 5 minutes of pure quality and most important info is much more useful than 3 hour of photoshoot and 24.99 smashing FPS. - do you have a dreams? If so why not watching best video ideas in modeltrains from other collegues? Also some Fleischmann, Z21 or Roco official channels, some very great guys with home projects. Look how they take a video. - word "capture" means to catch something. Well you do not do it with 24.99FPS. It is impossible at all no matter what equipment you've got. Answers 1 I mean green veneer of your layout. It looks ok for 50s and awful 75 years later. Need to find some photo background to lay it down on the veneers. Or you need to finish terrain. Or it is better to use some fresh modern material, like new light grey or white table (can be found used), or gloss one color furniture (for example for kitchen) part like people make for presentation. Or use one color carpet like our british young collegue. 2 Profi means you try to catch as more new, modern and fashion video things for mixing your video, which is obvious even too much for TV or young guys and girls 3 I told you few times that for video should be found right proportion between object and canvas size. That means you can not capture bacterias with the same distanse as locomotive in 1/87. The same is for locomotives with different size. 4 take advices above, find the way to do it instead fighting against Have a nice day, Alex

@@Alexander_Sth Alex, All my three layouts are work in progress and these videos follow that. You have a lot to offer it would seem so I’ll watch a tutorial that you do and narrate in person to camera applying all the techniques you love and on the how to’s of all these subjects that I can’t quite grasp within your written answers for sure, that would be good but, as for using unhelpful negativity like terrible, etc and things like clinical grey veneers, carpets, modern settings and less green rural nature, it’s not my scene. She is absolutely beautiful I am so so tempted, with the Black 5 and the Hush Hush But I really do hope they, Hornby, have a TT event soon and have a Black 5 coming THIS YEAR! But nothing stated for any TT announcements as yet
@modeloco18 күн бұрын
I’m feeling that with so much excitement in OO lately, that, TT has lost its grip a little and with Simon Kohler leaving so unexpectedly made other manufacturers nervous about its momentum. It may depend on how sales go for the latest batch of locomotives?
@Rturn260918 күн бұрын
@ Hornby need to kick up a gear with TT for sure. Others are holding back to not put money in something that won’t be supported by others But once more take a jump I think it could be a fantastic range Just so slow at the moment, or delays with things That will hurt the brand for sure. With nothing being scheduled for an announcement from Hornby at the moment that’s another spanner in the system to hurt things On our side, Hornby have put a lot of funds in to this, not sure they could even think of cutting losses on that just now At least they will bring out all that’s been stated so far before killing it off But I think we have another year before they start thinking that But again, they need to kick things up, personally they should reach out to another company for TT to really kick up a bit. Share some work and the load, yet they won’t as they want to hold that brand to them. That could be a big downside and cause the it all to crumble. I fully understand and appreciate the time designing testing prep samples etc happen That’s another downside to all being made in China. We shall see However, the range of new (very delayed) 00 items and new ones being announced soon 🤞could interesting and a good boost for Hornby and others alike
@modeloco18 күн бұрын
@ I can totally agree with that too. Sands can soon shift. I felt on the OO side that Hornby seemed to be getting cajoled by certain others and connected on line influencers into letting slip their innovative plans in favour of Railroad and the so called Junior Railroad Plus, hence my BEWARE video some time back. All as Simon K was leaving which all seemed so well timed as Bob Dylan would say. It can certainly feel to me that there are different departments competing for budgets and that they don’t always connect as they should. That the budget items were in danger of grabbing all the swag and simply handing all the loot to the eager eyed external, tired of waiting competitors and, that the lack of harmony and unity within due to this, possibly, leading to decoders not fitting into locomotives as originally planned, website information getting typo errors and all combined, which then hits sales and thus drives the argument more, for simply going back to basics. TT I feel got into all that as well. I think TT is still a great stepping stone into the hobby. It remains to be seen if the latest OO greats we are seeing were too advanced to stop or if HQ has now realised where the bread is buttered and have now swung the ship back toward real modelling and away from the simplistic black an white approach and notion that thirty somethings want a cheap modern era boxed set way in and an oval of track will really inspire gadget hooked kids. Yes, it has its place, you could argue but, we all know what really sells by the number of unsold items or new start ups in the last ten years. There’s obviously a real hunger out there. A wake up, woke up, shake up was possibly needed? Have the tides turned or will fear yell loudest on the spreadsheets for more Play-trains? All speculation and written out of a love for the brand and this amazing hobby that has grown over the years and long may it continue 👍 We shall see 🙏

With the steam bridging the chimney Hornby told me to use a tiny amount of petroleum jelly on the inside of the chimney of my flying Scotsman It certainly helps with the steam. Am I right in saying that the top 2 water feeds (Clacks) are in the wrong place, they should be just in front of the smoke dome, also looks like the wrong decal on the tender??
@modeloco19 күн бұрын
Yes, I think they’d be under the casing on top John but, a very good couple of points and certainly would seem so. I initially assumed this was going to be the models removable filler plug and now wonder if this is the reason why it’s down the boiler on this new incarnation as it’s definitely in the usual spot on my older model. I know people complained about the removable bung on the Scotsman so maybe designs were altered to incorporate the removable smoke box door and this was left as we now see it. Tender decal not sure which you’re questioning and why. Do you mean the BR one on the side as yes it’s very different but, not sure if incorrect on this?

@modeloco21 күн бұрын
Hi Louis, It’s certainly up and running very quick indeed. The price of progress I guess. I have 3 with this and Scotsman was idling very well compared yesterday so…
@LouisPlume21 күн бұрын
@modeloco Also I noticed that the Prince of Wales smoke is less than it was when I first got it and the Scotsman is probably going that way as well. I got the Hush hush a few days ago that one smokes the best. I only use de-ionized water. I bought me an atomizer that Hornby use in their smoke generators, from China, only about 80p and have that stuck in an industrial buildings chimney, and that kicks out loads. So I simply think the wicks needs replacing after 6 months, and Hornby should make them easy to change and give instructions how to, or the steam generator locos that I totally love will not catch on enough.
@modeloco21 күн бұрын
I don’t think they have a wick but, rather plates that vibrate. Will check my Prince too though in light of your feelings 👍
@LouisPlume20 күн бұрын
@modeloco Its not a wick exactly, there is a soft absorbent fabric thingy that soaks up the water, this is the part that tends to, I believe, stop transferring water to the metal discs well, after a while. I have bought a load, but no idea how to fit them.
