I've come to the conclusion long ago that the majority of alcohol impact is driven thru sleep quality reduction. There are ways to mitigate that, including having a stiff one at 9am with your morning meetings.

I have not heard any mental health video makers discuss the idea of being a strong person versus being a weak person. I feel this is an important topic due to the fact that from childhood(both family, friends, school teachers, aquatances) on into now being a senior citizen. I would always do a lot of soul searching every time someone would put this moniker on me. I eventually got over this, too late in life though . I am a quite strong person and it was these people's projecting onto me their own flaw or say personal disability. Be careful when evaluating yourself.

64 year female and lifting heavy for 38 years. saved my life 8 months ago when I was run down by a distracted van driver while training on my bicycle! Besides a TBI, whiplash, I only suffered a fractured radius ( now 2 titanium plates) and a few broken ribs. I was completely black and blue on my left side ( helmet dented) as the Van hit me! my SL8 broke in 2. if I hadn't lifted for more than half my life, I would have been dead ....DEXA scan last year showed high bone density except forearms and ribs!!!

4-7 drinks a week is not a low dose. Sure it is if you compare to an alcoholic I guess lol. 1-2 drinks a week is low dose and that's already asking a lot from the liver as it is poison to the body.

I'm comfortable saying that abstaining from all alcohol for health benefits alone (not addiction) is a life not worth living. I will go ahead and take my risk with my 3-5 drinks a night, as I have been doing for the past 40 years.

I’m the same as the both of you. Hardest parts are 1) the social aspect and being around people you now find annoying when they’re drunk and you’re sober and 2) watching friends and loved ones continue the self-destructive alcohol habit.

Dr Attia, I notice that you highlight the confounders for alcohol-longevity relationship (e.g. gravely ill would be non drinkers), but you do not mention the same confounding with anything else that has health benefits. Wouldn’t gravely ill people also have lower V Max or lower grip strength so that would confound those benefits as well?

Collagen production seems to be directly linked to hormone production. So most of the ads and videos in favour of collagen feature younger people. But for older people, one would think that taking maca powder instead, that helps the body stimulate hormone production would make more sense because if you are producing healthier levels of hormones, the body would also re start producing collagen. I would think that no matter how much collagen older people take it may be useless if the hormone levels are low.

No one has a clue what their VO2 max is. Studies focus on 30 minutes of exercise presuming people will get bored. You cannot do more than 2 machines with reps at 30 minutes so does not give a rounded workout. Or you have to come back later to do the other exercises.

@@strategicsage7694 I will offer a little wisdom to you and the other dumbass that replied to me so far. My very amateur opinion would be stress causes so much illness and if my mother's way of dealing with that stress was a little bit of wine every night and that prevented many other illnesses more power to her. And more power to others who used wisdom and common Sense to arrive at conclusions rather than the opinions of simpletons.
