Most loquat trees need a pollinator to produce fruit, but some cultivars can self-pollinate. Cross-pollination by bees or other insects can improve the quality and quantity of the fruit. Most need a second loquat tree nearby for pollination, but some cultivars can self-pollinate.... I hope yours can.

Thank you for the info! I really hope my remaining loquat tree is one of the self-pollinating varieties, but only time will tell. Bees and cross-pollination would definitely help, so I’ll keep an eye on it. Fingers crossed for some fruit in the future! 🌳🍈

Good Evening 🌄💭☕️ OS 😺, Hey 👋 How are y’all? Well, I hope ❤️ and pray 🙏❤️ I did not spot Daisy 🌼 🐈 but now I am wondering 💭 where she was? Thank You 🙏❤️ for giving her food 🥘 and water 💦 and being kind to her, and l👀king after her 🙏❤️😺 We are in the process of doing something similar, we came from the states and bought a house 🏡 in the UK 🇬🇧, it was being renovated, we have taken over the job, we were going great at first, but the issue lately has been finding people who want to work. We are no where near as skilled as you are, so everything gets to be hired out. But it has been encouraging to us to watch your videos and see your journey. Thank You 🙏❤️ for sharing 😺

Good evening! 😊 Thank you for your lovely comment and kind words about Daisy-she’s doing great! She now has three little kittens, so I think she’s been busy looking after them. I’ll make sure to get some footage of her and include it in an upcoming video. 🐾❤️ Whereabouts in the UK are you located? If you ever need advice or tips, especially for the UK side of things, please don’t hesitate to reach out-I’d be happy to help where I can. It’s great that you’ve taken over your renovation project, but I completely get the frustration of finding tradespeople. Unfortunately, it does seem like a dying trend in the UK, with many skilled professionals being overbooked. In another 10 years, I imagine it could be even harder to find good trades, as fewer young people seem interested in manual work these days. Wishing you the best with your project-it’s encouraging to hear that my videos are helping to inspire your journey! Keep at it, and you’ll get there! 💪🏡

Yes, the property is quite rural, which I love-it’s so peaceful out here! 🐑 The sheep passing by are a regular sight and add to the charm. The sea isn’t too far either, about a 5-10 minute drive depending on the route. Sicily really offers the best of both worlds: countryside tranquility and coastal beauty. 🌊 Thanks for your interest!

On another channel took two years for the pool building permit to be approved. Snail bureaucracy and red tape.
@OperationSicily
@OperationSicily 6 сағат бұрын
Two years for a pool permit?! That sounds like quite the test of patience! 😅 Do you know if the other channel was building an in-ground pool? From what I understand, an in-ground pool does require building permission, and on top of that, it would formally classify the house as a villa, which would push it into a higher tax bracket. I’m leaning towards a large above-ground pool instead-it’s faster, more cost-effective, and doesn’t require permits or permissions. Plus, I can always build a nice deck around it to make it look seamless. Thanks for sharing, and let’s hope I can avoid getting stuck in the red tape! 😊🏊‍♂️

You can't make olive oil with 1 tree, you need atleast 100 kg of olives to be processed so between 9-10 trees, and waiting 4-5 years if you plant them today. To prune the olive tree ask to an italian, don't tkuch it

You’re absolutely right, it takes a good number of olive trees to produce enough for oil. I have seen backyard makeovers where the well is in the area where they want to set up a lounging and dining area. They added new stone (or brick) to raise the walls up to a height that would then make it high enough to then after capping it, put on a large round tabletop for dining with a lazy Susan in the center. Looks awesome, like its just a large round table with a stone center pillar. Tabletop lifts for access to well when needed. Or another idea is again, raise the walls for your deck plus 2.5 to 3 ft. and add a cap for safety that can be removed easily. Have a pail hanging from a bar with a lever and add a pitched roof like the old style wells. Can have some sweet pea vines growing around it. Would make a nice old style feature.

Team TEA here (Can) and Red Rose is better than Tetley. You might not have had a chance to try Red Rose because like the commercial says ... Only sold in Canada eh! 😂 I remember when I was a kid, my mom used to send boxes of it to a relative that relocated to Cambridge because they couldnt get it there or find anything close to it. Edit: I realized when you were removing the wood and rope from the back door, the hallway was dark but you could still see the salamanders running around the walls and ceiling. You could also see the daylight coming from the opening at the bottom of the door. This leads me to believe that THIS is where they are most likely coming in from. Some stiff weatherstripping might help that.

When burning out a tree stump it's best to chainsaw a cross-cut 'a figure X' as deep as you can in the stump (without hitting stones); soak what's left in some liquid fuel for a few hours, and then ignite.

Just a tip for the next time you have to leave for a period of time. Do not mention it in a video, or advertise in a video your safety measures in locking up. Am sure all of us here will still be here when you get back and will enjoy hearing how your trip went, after the fact. Just want you and your belongings to stay safe! Also, in the drought heat in Sicily during the summer, you might want to rethink the glass roof (like a magnifying glass) and go with something that will give you afternoon shade. Perhaps a pergola with vines or a plant that is hearty in that heat which doesnt require a lot of water? I think wisteria is gorgeous but requires work to keep it under control or it can get invasive. Or maybe go with some grapes and you can make some homemade wine or eat the fruit? Would have to look into perennial fast growing vines in your zone to start with.

I was fascinated with your talk about the shovels. I watch several renovating in France and Italy programs and am ALWAYS rather shocked to see the Brits killing themselves while attempting to dig in rough ground with square spades. They're fine for cultivated soft ground, but rocky or dry ground needed a point. Incidentally, my favourite shovel is a forged (not pressed), pointed one made in England. My dad got it years ago and it's a keeper! You may find that the angle of the head of yours is just a tad acute. Best wishes from Canada.......and I'm subscribed. 😉

As an American, I've used both kinds of shovels for different tasks - as well as others, like a trenching shovel, which has a long, very narrow blade (like approx 10" x 5"). As for the Japanese plum you cut down, in my experience in far-northern California, I grew several from fresh fruit seed, and planted three. One was inadvertently mowed over in early tree-hood, with the other two surviving, growing into beautiful and well-shaped trees, which bloomed regularly, but never bore fruit. I later found out that they require a pollinator, and without a male tree, the female trees will never produce fruit. I hope your remaining Japanese plum is of a self-fruiting variety, and that you will be able to enjoy their delicious offerings!

Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights, Pamela! 😊 It’s fascinating to hear about your journey with Japanese plums-I had no idea they could be so particular about pollinators. I really hope the one I’ve left is self-fruiting, but I suppose only time will tell. If it doesn’t fruit, I might need to look into planting a compatible partner for it in the future. As for the trenching shovel, that sounds like a fantastic tool! It’s always interesting to hear how different types of shovels are suited to specific tasks-I’m learning so much from all the feedback. Thanks again for your kind comment and thoughtful advice! 🌳🍑

I am quite invested in your journey, and appreciate your expertise in so many different & varied DIY areas, as well as well-founded advice and suggestions regarding foreign investments & renovations, which I hope to undertake myself before too long... BTW, my Fiskars ratcheting long-handled pruning shears make easy work of such, and can easily accommodate up to 2+" branches. As an older woman with limited grip strength, the ever-increasing pressure exerted by the self-ratcheting blades are a godsend. :) Regarding your last video, I had a similarly situated well-head, between the lower house deck. well-established fruit trees and the small lake in our back yard. After installing underground drip irrigation on a computerized automatic system with 42 stations for our many vegie & flower beds, the well-head housing then included both household potable water from the well, as well as adjacent but separate water intake from the 8-acre lake for the automatic drip system. We built a larger & taller-than-before structure which was bistro-table height with an extended round wooden top, which raised up on hinges, and the front part of the round wooden housing below constituting the table-top support opened up on one side for easy access when required. The table proved useful as a rather large (7' or so) tabletop for buffet service or dining table for barbeques and such. As always, I wish you well in your journey, and appreciate, along with so many others worldwide, your so eloquent sharing of your creative journey with us.

Why are you working outside when the inside needs so much work? Being able to live there will make renovation so much easier!

Great question! I’m focusing on the outdoor work first because it’s much easier to do while the weather is nice and before the garden becomes unmanageable. Inside work will kick into full gear once the electrics and permits are sorted. Plus, the garden is so much more enjoyable now! 🌿

The reason why you have two plum trees its maybe a reason to cross pollinate.

You’re absolutely right-it was likely for cross-pollination. 🍑 I’m hoping the remaining tree will still thrive, but if not, I’ll consider adding a new one down the line. Thank you for the insight, it’s much appreciated! 😊

If you get a cheap tarp you cn put a lot of trimmings on that and drag it around. Saves trips on moving the lighter stuff. Good to see you back. Hope the trip home was a good one.

That’s a brilliant idea-think smart, not hard, right? 😄 Honestly, I never thought of that, but it makes so much sense! I’ll definitely grab a cheap tarp for next time to save myself from making a million trips back and forth. Thanks for the tip! 😊 The trip back home was great, thank you, but it’s always good to be back here working on the villa. So much more to come-stay tuned! 🙌🌿

Whatever happened to the pregnant cat at your property? Things are moving along nicely. I do agree with the comments that you may need to get a pro to prune the olive trees or study up on it, if you want to do it yourself.

Thank you for your comment! 😊 The stray cat had three adorable little kittens-they’ve been a joy to see around the property. As for the olive trees, you’re absolutely right. I’ve never pruned a tree in my life, so I’m learning as I go. If you have any tips or advice, I’d be incredibly grateful-it’s definitely a skill I want to improve on to help the trees thrive. Thanks again for your support and kind words! 🌳🐾
