I feel like this is something very much from the mangaka, but I would have liked to see Roy completely lost and how Riza would react to it. Being that they are very human characters, it is also very human to allow oneself to be consumed by resentment.

This side by side shows all the reasons I vastly prefer the sub. I'm sure a lot of people prefer the dub for various reasons, but I'm not a big fan of the dubbed version of Roy Mustang, to be honest, and Romi Park (Ed's seiyuu) is a legend and I love her work too much to ever let that go. I honestly feel like the change in voice performance and casting for Roy between the sub and dub fundamentally change his character and I much prefer the original.

My problem is mostly that the pitches are often wildly different. Like, Goku in English vs Japanese. It took me like 100 episodes to get used to Goku in Japanese lol.

I like both. I don't know what changed but to me dubs from this era were always decent, the English VA's tired to impart the same emotions to their lines as the original Japanese VA's...Now it just seems like the English VA's are just reading a script or whoever translated the lines completely lost the original intent of the scene.

But suddenly killing an actual monster is going to fill up some kind of status effect bar and then you've "gone too far." Like go fuck yourself. Seriously Riza. You're gonna point a gun at the back of Roy's head for Envy? Oh wait, because you're going to "Save his soul." This is the type of pretentious bullshit that writers REALLY need to stop. Especially when the author is such an utter coward they then have Envy kill HIMSELF. At this point, I lost all respect for Riza as a character and a person, Roy as a character, and the author in general. Took me years to come back and finish the series.
