That's precisely why children shouldn't be reading/watching this kind of story. Clearly they don't even understand the reason those two didn't get together officially (while everyone around them knows how close they are just as much as you and I do). That and the fact that two people don't have to be married (or have children, although those are a great addition, though these two have Ed and Al, so...) to live a fulfilling together.

Tbh I used to read lots of fanfics about them and I kinda get what the replies mean. Some of them were totally OOC and I'm glad they didn't explicitely end up together because their relationship is so perfect the way it is, an incredible platonic love. Some fanfics were disturbing to read because of how misunderstood their relationship was. But honestly it wasn't always the case. There are some pretty well-written fanfics out there, in which the depth of their relationship is well-described even though they end up together. So yeah, even tho I'm glad fmab ended the way it did for them, these fanfics were pretty good to and did help relieve some frustration. 😅

It's because this is fueled by revenge. Riza trusted Roy with the secrets of Flame Alchemy- the tattoo on her back. He wanted to learn the Alchemy in order to rise to the top and protect the people of Amestris. Then the Ishvalan War happened, and Roy used his alchemy to kill people- in an all out genocide. Hence, why in that scene when Riza is telling Ed what happens, there's that small scene of Riza asking Roy why they're killing civilians (and then Kimblee interjects) I don't remember which episode, but its around the same time that the Envy fight is going on, there's a flashback to Riza asking Roy to burn the tattoo on her back, so that her fathers research can never be used in the same way again. Roy in return, when Riza joins the military, asks her to "watch his back" and "if he ever strays from the path," to shoot him. The path being using his power for more than to protect. IE look at Lust. Mustang uses his alchemy to kill her, both to protect Riza, and also to get rid of the threat as fast as possible so someone can go save Havoc from bleeding out. He also only attacks her to the point that her stone couldn't keep regenerating. It was never excessive (so to speak) And then there's Envy, where Mustang isn't trying to protect anyone. He attacks Envy, tortures him (attacking his eyeballs anyone?), and basically goes out of his way to keep Envy alive as long as possible. That's why Riza steps in.
