I remember when i was a kid i was playing on pocket edition in a private world with no one else. I shit you not, i walked out of my house and saw the steve mob running towards me with a hatchet and it killed me. When i respawned it was gone and i’ve never heard of it happening to anyone else but me. I don’t know wtf would cause this glitch but it scared the hell out of me, especially after i found out about the urban legend of herobrine. No one has ever believed me when i told them this, maybe someone here will

I definitely believed in Herobrine and got so scared caving sometimes that I couldn't play for a while. I was a dumb kid that really liked scary games and dug really deep in the fake screenshots and stuff haha. I'm glad this video popped up because it gives me a nice but ominous nostalgia. Very strange, but I welcome it.

the added complexity of new minecraft, while very fun, also started to add a sort of "purpose" to the game. Which, don't get me wrong, is great, but it also started to make it feel like there was a right and wrong way of playing the game. There were things you 'had' to do. Every time I loaded a new world, it seemed like I started doing the same thing over and over. In old minecraft, I played every world differently.

16:03 I remember one of the developer interviews had a question about what they regret adding, and the answer was slabs, because now the game has people wanting smaller and smaller, and you can't take away poor design choices that empower the player. Elytra rockets, Phantoms, Adding a million blocks

I remember it was 8th grade, a friend showed me this cool game on the web before earth science. I can still remember the weird terrain generation. It was like a dirt cave with lots of holes in the ceiling so it was bright like daylight. So cool.

I remember the void fog because we modded it out circa 1.2.5 or something, I forgot exactly... To this day I'll look for a mod that removes it, then someone will remind me it's not a thing anymore and I'll go "Huh? Oh."

I definitely believed in Herobrine when I was a kid. After I heard about Herobrine. I only played Minecraft if one other person was able to play with me. This went on for about a year I think. Even now, when I'm 21. When I play in my world that I have with my friend. Sometimes I feel like someone is watching me even though I know I'm the only one on the server.

Dude, I encountered those phantom player noises way back in the day on Pocket Edition. I would be playing Creative worlds, and I would just hear the distant sounds of blocks breaking. And this was YEARS before mobs could even spawn in creative worlds

Minecraft's core gameplay and content has existed for like a decade. The newer updates feel like mods to alot of og players, cool but just additions to the core game. Many people like to play the stripped down version. As someone who plays 1.20 enhanced with vanilla style mods, I recently enjoyed going back to good old plain 1.8 for fun.

I appreciate the fact that Minecraft Dev’s allowed us to play any version. Considering I’ve been playing games all my life it was the only game that I loved and ever since I’ve been playing I’m hooked since it’s so creative and cool. I play on console and have played on PC, PC is even better and mods are my fav thing. Changing and customizing you’re experience.

The philosophy of the textures changed to something more "realistic" whatever that means in a blocky game. I think this is why it's difficult to build as we used to. No longer can your buildings be "low res" like the world, they have to be more exact. This is seen especially in cobblestone, oak leaves and netherack. It's like someone has installed a moody John Smith's texture pack but it's official. It forces you to build detailed because intuitively, the modern version feels like it needs more effort and design in the buildings, there is less interpretation. It's less like Duplo and more like Lego (but bad lego). That said I think the texutres are still on the 16x16 base. What I also prefer is the icon for the game and launcher being the old texture grass block. They forgot about it well after updating the rest of the textures!
I love this era for the memories, especially the textures and colours and lighting (it's bright whereas it is now too realistic or washed out). The modern version is the one I play but this is always the version I *think* I'm playing. I'm not good at keeping up to date so it feels like eveything from endermen up is new. However, I've often been bored by minecraft probably by the time they added villagers; I at least felt apathetic and I would never get far. Now, because I've been away for so long, I feel like a noob while playing the modern game and it's amazing. I hope to one day find or make a texture pack/shader which changes a few things.

I think what really made Old Minecraft really great is the fanbase it used to have. Sure, there WERE still toxic people, but it's NOTHING compared to today. Another reason is that they took it WAAAY less seriously, nowadays people treat Minecraft way too seriously (With their unnecessary large builds)

Hey great video! I really feel like this too sometimes. The older you get the more information you are absorbing everyday. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and enjoy the slower, more boring part of the world. The more you do this, the more you acknowledge the small things and start to appreciate more what's happening around you.

You know what's sad. Is that the consistent intuition based game design principles that contribute to the chohesive feeling of it all makes me wonder how Notch was feeling. It's so sad to think that this game might be born from someone that was constantly feeling like THIS, idealized where this is the world where you can build a cozy house to be safe and choose what scary darkness you explore and how many friends you want to or don't have.

I personally like both the betas and the newer versions (specifically 1.20.1 currently), so what I did with my friends was get a modded 1.20.1 game with a bunch of mods that bring it closer to the beta style. This way, we get modern features we do like, shaders if we want and whatever else while the game looks and for the most part plays similarly to the betas. I might at some point play an actual beta game, I just don't know how to make good looking builds at all. I want it to end up like what I see in so many beta worlds from others with nice houses and whatnot but I just.. don't know how

Phantom player glitch is herobrine but not as you think. I believe it was added by notch to troll people while herobrine was a big thing at the time. The fact both players heard it could mean it’s meant to play on the players location aswell. So likely just a notch troll.

The color gradient argument is spot on. I never had to look up color gradient blocks in old minecraft becyase it all just went together so easily. The newer version has way too many blocks that i often have no idea WHAT to build with
@grindfi3 күн бұрын
This explains a lot about the build style i have in modern versions. I started back in the extremely old versions as a child and right now im playing on a modern server with friends, and they tell me that my villages just feeel good, i notice that hey try to use every block for the colors and dont really think about how a village or town would actually work. The kind of blocks that go with the colors of the biomes, where they get their things and how they view each block instead of just using it for how it looks. I like to make sure things look put together and am proud to say that i feel like i survived the new versions so create the way someone with vision would play a game

And i think thats what minecrafts all about. The way you grow as a player and as a person, the two fusing together for that little afternoon of time you got to spare in this short life we have. Just like the ending of this game talks about suddenly having grown up, and things feeling so fast. I like looking back on what i made too, it fills me with pride and delight and pushes me to make better things, if not in minecraft, then in real life. And just for a short moment, i feel like life moves slowly.
