The Diamond sword in b173 is incredibly powerful. In new versions, I don't think you can kill a creeper without backing off at least once, unless your sword is enchanted.

Yeah, given youre not playing on a server with high latency, you can react quickly enough to these for a catastrophe to not happen. They deal 11 damage afaik
