how has it been?

Yeah update?? I have BASE M1 MacBook Pro (2020) I LOVE IT. It’s ALMOST PERFECT. I’m so excited to get an M4 16 inch in about 3 years when the price drops HUNDREDS.

Thanks for the feedback! Course. 1) after around 5 weeks I lost my internet and it was down for around 6 weeks so not great!! Now my internet is restored, speeds are reliable and I don’t notice any throttling. 2) Cabling was brought to the house by telephone pole so no need for a trench to be dug. My place is also rented and they were happy for me to have it installed as it likely made the property more desirable so if needed, deffo worth the conversation with your landlord! Of course if you decide not to go with CB, you still have options like a 4G connection (like I did for a long time) or Starlink (now that you can rent the equipment and not have to pay upfront). Before I could get fibre, I did use Starlink and it was great, just a shame it’s not a little more affordable. Let me know if you have any other questions, more than happy to help!

Good to know that people in rural Essex are beginning to get options, interesting to hear about starlink, I don't know anyone in the UK that's used it! I've signed up with CBB for now, but will go with an alternative if they prove to be difficult. To be honest, it's been a really straight forward process do far and someone has already rung me to go through everything so I'm impressed so far, better than my experience with BT

i had mbp 14 inch m2 but i prefer to buy 16 inch because bigger screen is better for my eyes 👀 at age 50 😊

It sounds like you’re settled on the 16 inch and I think if you’re looking for a good primary device with great screen, speakers and battery life then this is the one for you! Just remember it is bigger and heavier than other MacBooks, such as the 15inch Air

@@Ben_McGlynnactually i think to go for the 14inch because of its portability. Now i hesitate between the M3 and M3 pro for battery reasons.

@@oceanelucas6469 the 14inch M3 is seriously good value. 2 questions for you to help decide, what work will you be doing on the machine and do you need to connect to more than 1 external monitor?

⁠@@Ben_McGlynn I want this MacBook to last in my career in Marketing. I’d like to launch my own company in a few years. I like to upload photos on it and to create mini vlogs. I will work the whole day on it so I need it to be capable of handling all my work. I really don’t know about the device, but if one day I need more than one I should be prepared..?

That’s a massive upgrade and I’m sure you notice the performance difference, I only upgraded from a 13inch MacBook Air and I can see a huge difference!

@@Ben_McGlynn These silicon M Chips are incredible! The M2 on the MacBook Air, especially on the new 15 inch models are phenomenal too!

I purchased it on eBay, it doesn't look like the listing is live anymore but the title was '18U Server Rack Network Cabinet 19 inch 570 x 600mm Black'. I don't have the door on but it did have 'Linxcom UK' printed on it

If you go into the device in the Home app and tap the settings cog you should see the 'Chime Doorbell' option. I believe if you disable that it will only use the HomePods

Yeah I’ve seen them before and have considered it, just concerned about reducing my airflow through the case - one to think about!

Just start! If you’ve got an old desktop that you can use, get it setup and start learning ASAP. It’s easy to get caught up in KZbin and wanting to buy this and that but once you’ve started, you’ll have a better idea for what might work for you and what you want to achieve!
