I may be way off base here but if the book of Revelation is addressed to the 7 churches of Asia Minor, some 600 + miles from Jerusalem, what then would be the relevance of the book describing the Great Tribulation which takes place in Jerusalem some distance away?Assuming that Revelation is a parallel to the Olivet discourse in the synoptic gospels. There is probably a simple explanation that I am missing here.

I'm sorry but if you're a Christian you don't have the ability to think critically you people don't think critically you can't because you've been doctrinated by your belief to believe in a book that doesn't even match the original books that it came from for instance any of the translations you have today of the New testament come from outside of Catholic ones the Byzantine text, and the Byzantine text does not support your modern New testament not even close The Byzantine text does not support the Trinity nor dispensational theology it doesn't even believe or support the concept of an Israel returning most of the stuff in the Byzantine text doesn't even support people who are non-dispensational. The Byzantine Bible is completely outside of what modern Christians believe today but it doesn't surprise me because it's a cult whether you're a dispensationalist or not you're in a cult

@ the 15:50 - 18:00 Amen Brother. I just love the way you teach. P.S. I have come to believe that the 'Babylon' that Peter talks about is Jerusalem itself in the first century= "Mystery Babylon the great the mother of harlots and the abomination of the land." Peter also knew his time had come to be a martyr. The original elect city is Jerusalem and the sheep & goats were separated, as per the following judgments. God is still separating the sheep & goats as people live and die with their own free will in our modern time and throughout the millenia until the last day. 1 Peter 4:17 "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God . And if it first begin with us [Jews] what shall be the end of those [the nations] who obey not the gospel of God ?" Matthew 23. The house of God was earthly Jerusalem. The keys were taken from them and given to another who will produce the fruits thereof." = The body of Christians worldwide.

Are we assuming here that the Roman church is a true church or once was a true church? Did Rome ever hold to the true faith? ie justification by faith alone
@GoreBruce
@GoreBruce 4 күн бұрын
The 'Roman' church was simply the church in the early centuries, and I heartily embrace the history of the church during those years as my own history as a Christian. As the church became more powerful, influential, and wealthy, she lost her edge, and eventually forces of corruption in the upper echelons drove the forces that led to the Reformation. The Reformation had the effect of creating a church more faithful to the original vision of the church, and in fact the Reformation produced a significant 'reformation' of the Roman church itself, evidenced in the announcements of the Council of Trent. The formula 'justification by faith alone' is not commonly found in the early writings, even in Augustine, but the problem had not been as sharply disputed as it was later. In the early centuries the focus was on matters of Trinity, the dual nature of Christ, etc., and the creedal statements tended to focus on those matters, rather than on soteriology.

I have to strongly disagree that the 60's sexual revolution and social movements have not been significantly acted out THROUGH the Catholic church. We are still in the midst of that moral, ethical problem. It has also involved Protestants of course. But the complacency Bruce is preaching here is terribly out of touch with the difficult moral lies and convoluted evil of our day. This has been central to claiming movement "social justice" or supposed power analysis (Marxist) as able to define and take on the real sins.

BS"D warm greetings from Jerusalem! I'm grateful for Mr. Gore's wonderful and enlightening lectures on ancient history in Biblical context. As an Orthodox Jew, I do not accept the divinity of JC, but I do find enormous value in Mr. Gore's teaching style. Mr. Gore's approach is reasoned and rational, but uncompromising on the text's reliability. I see this as a Presbyterian example of Aristotle's "Golden Mean", and I wish such teachers were more common. Proverbs 3:17 דרכיה דרכי נעם וכל נתיבותיה שלום עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותמכיה מאשר Her ways are pleasant ways, And all her paths, peaceful. I love Bruce Gore and find him to be one of the very best Bible teachers I have ever heard. I will always highly recommend him to others; BUT….He is, in fact, wrong about the historical position of the church on universal salvation through Christ, the purifying, corrective nature of God’s holy fire (He is a consuming fire and He is Love), and post-mortem salvation (that verse in Hebrews does note exclude this reality). For the first 500 years of church history, universal salvation through the finished work of Christ for all the world was the majority view of the Christian church. That is, up until Augustine, who had no affinity for the Greek language and insisted on only using a Latin translation of scripture. He therefore was ignorant of the real meaning of passages that refer to the age or ages or “of the age” rather than the generic terms of forever or eternal, which were misapplied. Augustine himself confirms that “many” believers in his day did not accept eternal torment as orthodox. To this day, the Eastern Orthodox Church teaches universal salvation through Christ. So, this is not a fringe view and certainly not a heretical position for Christians to hold. It is, in fact, scriptural and true to the earliest teachings of the historical church. For further reference see Zondervan’s “ Four Views on Hell” or Dr David Bentley Hart’s “That All Shall Be Saved”.

Heads up. "Time of the end" is the end of the nation of Judah and their dispersion into the Gentile nations. It is the same as the consummation in Daniel 9:27. There is no distinction or need of Covenant keepers of old after Christ. Yes it is also the Messiah in 27-30 AD who came before and set in motion that which had been planned since Creation. This is contained in Daniel 9:27. The full 70th week had no gap after the end of the 69th week. The last 7 years was 3.5 years of the Ministry of Christ to His own. The remaining 3.5 years was his disciples in ministering to their own told to wait in Jerusalem until Stephens testimony before the Jewish Sanhedrin in 33/34 AD which was rejected in Acts 7. End week 70 or 490 years. In Acts 8 the Gospels goes out to the Nations. The period between 30 AD and 70 AD also allowed Christianity to grow.

Heads up. There are 2 different abominations of desolation or profanation of the Temple in Daniel. The BC one Antiochus IV for 2300 days and then cleansed found in Daniel 8 and 11 and the AD one in Daniel 9 and 12 for 1290/1335 days in 66-70 AD not cleansed as the Temple was destroyed. The abomination that Jesus refers to in the Gospels in 30 AD then soon to come was the AD one.

Heads up. Cyrus II didnt become king of Persia until his father Cambyses I died in 559 BC. The 551/550 BC date is from the false account of Herodotus who said Median King Astyages was deposed by his Persian grandson Cyrus II. Furthermore Astyages was not the last king of Media - his son Cyaxares II was who was the biblical Darius the Mede. Scholars ought to follow the accounts Xenophon and Scripture that it wasnt Persian Cyrus II who took Babylon but Cyrus II uncle Darius the Mede/Cyaxares II. Darius the Mede died without an heir and as the two houses were merged by marriage the Median kingdom and former Babylon and former Assyria then went to nephew Cyrus II in 536 BC. Daniel first served in the court of Darius the Mede after the lions den incident in Darius Y1. Daniel then serves in the court of Cyrus II for at least 3 years Daniel 10. Head up 2. Prior the two Babylonian kings who co-reigned until the Fall of Babylon whom Darius the Mede defeated easily with help of his nephew Cyrus II in 539 BC were Nabodinus and Belshazzar. Scholars ignore the bible and do not realise that Nabodinus is the same person as Nabochodonossar II (Nebuchadnezzar II) returned after his 7 year madness in 555 BC. In Daniel Belshazzar is son of Nebuchadnezzar II and in academia Belshazzar is son of Nabodinus. Academia does not allow for Nebuchadnezzar II return after his 7 year madness. Go figure.

London had to be resettled because no one could relax enough to take up habitation. They had to hide out ever-prepared for attack. Another reason Albert was smart enough to insist on conversion and baptism. Viking code was to break contracts, to lie and never trust anyone. Christian society demanded otherwise. It works.

ποιμάνατε τὸ ἐν ὑμῖν ποίμνιον τοῦ θεοῦ - Could you give a mini Greek lesson on why your translation is "be shepherds" instead of the verb "shepherd"? Is this the reason for the strange (to my eyes) τὸ ἐν construction? Btw thanks for the new release video. I was shocked when my ears heard 2025 in the beginning and it took a moment to process that this was so recent. Did you actually record this yesterday? If so, great turnaround time! And great timing as well.

Now, that was my first question and it is the primary question that can teach me and perhaps one or two others seeking to learn Greek bit by bit. But I can't stop with a good question, I have to move on and give back to the πρεσβυτέρον, most assuredly getting myself in trouble in the process. But I figure you read quickly and are looking to challenge yourself mentally to remain as sharp as a tack well into your 100s so you can be even more πρεσβυτέροις. So I have a couple questions: 1) Do you consider your KZbin audience to be part of your church, knowing full well that the church comprises living stones and not buildings. 2) Do you still "put on the apron" in order to effect that mental acuity renewal process. 3) Related to this, do you see Jesus' wearing of the apron to only be a "mental example" for others to follow, or do you think it held any intrinsic value for him? 4) Do you ever think of yourself, being πρεσβυτέροις, in terms of an "old wineskin"? Now, I admit, the numbers here are almost purposefully annoying, but I ask the rest because I love The Word and, due to your excellent habit of sticking so close to scripture in spite of your knowledge, you're just about the only preacher I can stand to listen to on a regular basis. I ask because it is interesting to me, this ongoing process of renewal and the self-awareness that the Jesus' teachings can give us. For example, since this video's content was about Peter, I often think - in addition to the immeasurable and phenomenal positive impact his life had on the shape of the world - I think of two of his difficulties with respect to this renewal: His stubbornness in the unclean dream and his being called out by Paul for essentially backsliding with regards to the gentiles. So I wonder about his ability to be a "new wineskin", how this contrasted with *his* πρεσβυτέρους, and how these relate to the dynamics which you cover in this sermon regarding the τους πρεσβυτέρους και τους νεότερους. Now, I am not trying to be impertinent here, but rather wish to still challenge you to help spur that renewal, though I'm sure it is of little challenge. But I think you have a great shot at beating Moses in terms of age and mental acuity, and I'm just doing my part with salt to help you get there! Also I'm obviously desperate for (and in desperate need *of*) a little Greek practice given my poor accent work. And perhaps this νεότερος would be less annoying and otherwise occupied had a certain πρεσβυτέρος published his Greek source code for posterity's sake!! Thanks for a great video Mr. Gore!! And thank you for your continued work here in the new age's wilderness. And thank you for the Greek software you've made. I'd be happy to receive it as a zip file, post it online, and teach you how online "open source" sharing works if you are not already proficient, which I wouldn't put past you of course.

@@ibgib Briefly, the word rendered 'shepherd' is a verb. A rigid translation would go something like this: Shepherd the 'among you' flock the 'of God' (flock) not grudgingly... etc. I translate freely to introduce the text, but try to exegete with decent precision. As to your other questions: 1) I understand these videos are reaching people with very diverse religious backgrounds, but my presentations are aimed at a live audience in a Presbyterian Church; 2) I try to; 3) Jesus was providing a 'teaching moment' as he himself later declares; 4) No.

I doubt that Bruce Gore will read this so I'll share for the benefit of others. My name is Hal Bachman. I am in year three of a masters research thesis on end times and patristic fathers at Truett McConnell University under several professors, mostly historians. I would like to share historical errors that Bruce is promoting in this video. It is nothing that is singling him out, because he is simply repeating things that are being promoted in the average mainline seminary. First of all, the Second Temple Period rabbis were looking forward to a Messianic Age. You can read this in the biblical text itself. This is the reason the Jerusalem Jews were disappointed with the gentle Jesus. They tried to make him king at one point and He simply departed from them. Acts 1 records the eleven asking if he was going to then inaugurate the Messianic Age which Christ hit the pause button on. The church fathers before the historic Catholic Church got the idea of the Millenium from the Jews. Christians did not invent the Messianic Age. We were informed about how long it would be once Revelation was circulated. Saying that the thousand year concept is wrong because it's too late is saying God's timing is not good in His revealings...I would keep that in mind. So with this in mind, John Nelson Darby's ideas were not unique. If you read the ante-Nicene fathers they had extremely similar theories. So Darby's view is not unique, and not new. His view is the earliest view of the church, that continued at least until the Montanists were wiped out in the sixth century: see FF Bruce's The Spreading Flame. Another myth to dispel, Darby did not promote seven divine dispensations. That idea came after him. Also, he didn't create the pre-trib rapture. Eusebius (AD 260-339) the father of church history is the oldest pre-trib writer and predates Darby by about 1700 years. Also, there is no documentation about JND getting all his ideas from Margaret McDonald at the utterance meeting. It's conspiracy theory, so therefore not proper in a church history class. More later. Love, Hal
