The most overrated garbage that's come out in a long while- and this is from someone who quite enjoyed the Puss in Boots sequel film. The exposition dump forest animal friends was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too obvious for a children's movie. This is a CHILDREN'S movie. Not a family movie. They do know that children have eyeballs as well as ears right? Just because you shove in a few "woe is me kids are hard to raise oy vey," jokes doesn't make your characters groundbreaking or more interesting. Outside of the sight gags this was phenomenally mediocre. Its almost like people forgot just how amazing animated films used to be or something. Like WALL-E still exists in this timeline.. right? That film is amazing and tells a story with less dialogue, less exposition, and less hitting-you-over-the-head-with-the-same-stupid-old-message. Btw Goslings and other fowl imprint for LIFE. They don't inconveniently act like teenagers or inquire about their previous life before a robot fell on the nest they were in. The whole premise was just too dull and whimsical, but I heard the book was pretty good.

Honestly my only real issue with the movie is the ending scene where all the animals have called a permanent truce with each other. I get what they were going for, the animals, like Roz, overcoming their “programming” in order to become something more, but like, these are still wild animals, several of them predators that do need to eat other animals to survive. Idk, I’m sure I’m looking too deeply into it, it’s just a little annoying bc its not just inconsistent with the logic of reality, but with the internal logic of the movie as well

I don't exactly see how the film is incomplete. It's fast paced, but I genuinely don't understand where you got the narrative that "humans are bad" from anywhere in the film. Far from it, humans barely appear on the film at all. Instead, the narrative centers far more around the theme that Rose needs to find their humanity and their "wild side" in order to accomplish its task: raise a gooseling. That requires breaking away from what it was programmed to do, itself a common trope on films that are centered around robots (see Wall-E and The Iron Giant). The film's final antagonist is a perfect demonstration of a robot that follows its programming to the letter, conveying no real emotions outside of a faux personality it was pre-programmed to do. To remove a sentient being's agency is what the film stands against, so it's not a condemnation of humanity.

I honestly thought a film about a robot in the wild had a story that felt more human than something like inside out. It gave me a toy story feeling. Sure, the ending was cheesy, but I personally liked it. 9/10
@frosttheicefloeturtle814311 күн бұрын
how is it cheesy? any other movie would have them beat the robots and then they celebrate and Roz gets to stay in the forest and they have a dance party and all live happily ever after, this is one of the few animated movies that deviates from the traditional "Everything works out perfectly in the end" thing. Sure we still see her reunite with Brightbill but that makes sense because he is a migratory species and it was already established earlier in the film that the flock passes through the farm thingy

as someone who likes to analyze movies for fun, The Wild Robot was underwhelming for me too. i think the animation is aesthetically beautiful and fits very well with the forest setting, and i actually like that they revealed Roz killed Bright Bill’s parents in act 1 instead of waiting the entire movie to do so. i also like how the forest creatures did not immediately warm up to Roz, and it’s integration into the wild was slow and bumpy (shows the learning curve really well, and some might view first 20mins as a autism metaphor). the robot learning to become a mother is a touching message (which i can see winning over a lot of people’s love towards movie), and the way they had her learn the language of the forest and override her programming i thought was explained in a way that makes in-universe sense (coming from someone who is not easily convinced that /robots/ can logically develop human emotions). and none of the forest animals were annoying! which is always a plus lol. butttttt… i agree with what you said about the pacing being all over the place and the movie trying to fit too many plot points in at once. i think the main reason this bothers me so much is none of the plot feels laced together. stuff just /happens/ because the plot demands it and the characters are just along for the ride. thing after thing after thing comes into the story until and all a sudden we’re watching a completely different movie from the one we started. robot adapting to wildlife -> “morally neutral” robot trying to abduct wild robot and fighting wildlife and destroying forest in the process. these two stories are hardly connected, and without the proper buildup the conclusion is bound to feel forced and un-organic. not to mention all the other arcs movie tried to include with Roz raising Brightbill, Brightbill preparing for migration, migration life itself, Roz overriding it’s programming, Roz becoming a “mother”, Brightbill becoming a leader, the whole forest truce during the blizzard scene and the aftermath of said truce in the end (don’t get me STARTED on how blatantly unrealistic (both in-universe AND generally) that part is 💀). movie tries to juggle wayyy too many things at once, and fails to do so fluently. i understand The Wild Robot is based off of books, but a movie adaptation is allowed to make choices to better fit the runtime of a /movie/ in order to tell a more coherent story. being based off a book is a weak excuse for poor writing. a lot of arcs in The Wild Robot (movie) feel abrupt and happen out of nowhere, then end just as abruptly as they started (with hardly any takeaway or earned growth from out characters) just so that the next arc can begin. nothing overlaps or is developed simultaneously, and movie feels rushed like it’s just going through the motions to pump the story out. and as somebody who THRIVES on character-driven media no matter the setting, story, or aesthetic, this was genuinely disappointing for me, especially after seeing so many people hype it up (myself included). The Wild Robot is not a bad movie, but it’s not a great movie either. overall i’d rate it 60-65% satisfactory (coming from someone who sees the beauty in movies just as harshly as they critique them). if you turn your brain off and look at the pretty colours, 10/10 👍, TWR will NOT disappoint you! but if you’re looking for something with a little more nuance and an objectively well rounded work of art with deeply developed characters who have a great impact on the story, mehhhh 3-4/10, this movie will leave you wanting much MUCH more. that’s my 2 cents anyways 🤷♀️. thanks so much for reading if you read all that! i am very open to hearing different thoughts/opinions if anyone has any :> ❤️

No disrespect to your opinion in this movie (even if most of your takes are kinda ass) I just wanna mention this; I honestly really do not like when people use the "Did AI write this?” Question as an excuse for why they don’t like the script of any movie whether it’s good or bad. Films like The Wild Robot are made by actual people who worked extremely hard to make it. A crew consisting of writers, artists, animators, etc. who put in so much love and passion into the projects they make. Hell, I’d even like to give credits to Peter Brown, the writer of the original Wild Robot book the movie is based on. The whole "AI made this movie” bullshit take, or that it’s """lazy””” is just extremely disrespectful to the hard work that was put in this film by the team at DreamWorks, and disrespectful to both Chris Sanders and Peter Brown who wrote these stories out of love. With all that said, this review is kinda ass. The reasonings as to why you don’t like it are either not fully emphasized, feel like you’re grasping at straws just to prove a point, consists of comparing it to other animated movies which isn’t very fair (Especially when said other movies have nothing in common with this one), and it just feels like you’re wording it to where it’s objectively mediocre. Again, it’s fine to not like the movie. I’m just saying, just because your opinion is valid doesn’t mean it’s a good opinion (if that makes sense). Oh, and one more thing. I wouldn’t say Wild Robot's reviews are mixed. It seems like nearly everyone loves it, and it just so happens to have a small group of people who find it overrated. You can’t just throw in a couple of lukewarm reviews within a truck load of positive ones and just say that the reception is "mixed". Just sayin’

I'm sorry, but your review is everything wrong with media literacy nowadays. Look, you have every right to not like this movie. You may not like the characters, the story, or etc., but my God, you have got to be the most spoiled person when it comes to movies. I hate to break it to you, but not every film has to be like Citizen Kane, and not every animated movie has to be like Spiderverse and PIB: the last wish. Every movie has its own identity and most of them may not be your cup of tea. Also and everyone need to know about this, TROPES AND CLICHES ARE NOT A BAD! It depends on the execution or if the story earn it. Without it, then what's the point of making a story. If you are tired of "mid" animated movies, then go watch the ones not made in America (I recommend Persepolis, When Marnie was there, and the illusionist). I don't even know how you watch movies, but if you can't see why people love it, then you don't deserve movies or any media in general. Long story short, you are spoiled to the point that you are bad at criticism. Sorry, but this needs to be called out.

So many movies now rely on big twists. The kind of things that if you get spoiled, the entire movie is ruined. Ecspecially since End Game. Which becomes even harder when so many trailers actually end up spoiling the entire movie. This movie is kind the other end of the spectrum. Even if you can see the ending or know the ending, its the journey that is the heart and soul of the movie. Also I loved Puss in Boots the Last Wish, but they're two completely genre of films. Puss in Boots is mostly a comedy movie. This is more of an emotional movie, think along the lines of Bambi. Just because they're both animation doesn't mean they can be so easily compared. Because animation isn't a genre like the media would have you believe, its a medium.

Not everything can be Puss in boots Puss and boots and Spider-Man into the spider verse’s art style. Would not work for this film the film has a very clear message about excepting others and I can admit that the pacing isn’t the best but it’s not awful. It’s also quite mature, despite being a kids film, which is great no, it was not written by an AI. It’s based off the book. Well, it’s actually two books mash together, which is a reason pacing isn’t great it’s a 9 out of 10 it’s not perfect it’s not a 10 out of 10 but it is good The reason people are praising it because it’s not a generic sequel or reboot or spinoff something new and fresh and sure the fox characters a little annoying and the ending is a little generic, but just a little it’s fine to have your own opinion but the reason the majority of people’s opinions in this movie are so positive it’s because it’s not actually that bad not everything can be a masterpiece, but when so many things are garbage nowadays having something that’s just a pretty damn good movie is a for fresh air

I too, am a massive fan of Puss in Boots The Last Wish, excellent villian, fun script and amazing themes. The Wild Robot story maybe simply or even unpredictable. But I still find it WAYYYY more enjoyable than a typical illumination film, where its just random comedic voice dialogue and fart joke every 10 seconds. Most jokes are quite simple but there are some really good jokes that got me as an adult. I was shocked when they joke about how one of the rat babies die and the mother was disappointed to find out that that rat baby survived. I was laughing so hard for that. Roz's voice was phenomenal. The way she uses her light to express herself, and her movement is incredibly unique eye candy to me. After hearing the review, I start to realize that yeah, maybe the characters are all too generic and simple. There isn't really a complex character. But seeing Roz struggle to understand nature animals, doing everything she can to help animals around her and even sacrifice herself to save everyone was inspirational. Beautiful visuals and wonderful emotions, but yeah, it didn't take big innovative creative risks and plot originality like Megamind, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda
