I think the problem is companies are not willing to innovate in any way (with some exceptions) and would rather play it safe because they believe it'll churn out a better profit (Illumination made a fortune just by playing it safe) leading to the same cookie cutter formula for animated movies. Hopefully we get more films in the future that choose to innovate like Toy Story and Spiderverse.

I remember a critic someone made on a movie with a low budget (Equilibrium): "They said because of the low budget they had bad SFX... But it is the best part of the movie! Nothing bad about it! HOWEVER... there is no excuse for the plot holes and poor scenario!" And i feel like animated movies fall into the same problem. Animation is usually not a problem. Sure you might see a decrease in quality... But come on. Despite its poor animation, Hoodwinked was a very fun movie that many (or at least I) enjoyed. But scenario... I might be wrong, but scenarists are not paid dozens of millions to write a scenario (maybe not paid enough too, but that's for another debate), so there is no budget matters here. There are no excuses for writing lazy movies. Edit: and yes, Star Wars sequels are terrible. (I wish all of the actors involved in those movies to have a brilliant career. You don't desserve the hate of anyone.) Especially the 9th. I didnt even watched it but the plot made it I REFUSED to watch it. It realises the EXPLOIT of disrespecting the whole Georges Lucas saga (do i need to say more?), BUT EVEN ITS OWN SAGA. Most producers don't care the slightest about franchises. It really feels like Excel tabs are pushing their decision. The movies don't respect the fan while not respecting and entertaining the audience. I will say it again: The Super Mario Bros movie is not just successful. In itself, this movie is a MIRACLE regarding the production choices. And.... What a surprised, PEOPLE LOVED IT AND IT MADE TONS OF MONEY.

Yes, and no examples are needed Spider-Man across the spider verse that animation that has ambitious and well animated and quite the opposite of lazy don’t get into too much in depth. You have Megamind no not the first Megamind the second Megamind. the animation for the second movie feels well kind of stiff delight not that strong. It feels weak and some people have pointed out. Megamind looks off model putting it out by some people reviews that we’ve heard the right and terrible. The jokes are terrible. Overall, the premise is just terrible. No one likes Megamind too. They feel like it deserves better. That’s the definition and since it’s the worst animated movie. The middle ground is kung fu panda four I don’t like kind of four. When it comes to production, kung fu panda for it left a lot to be desired. Co- Director and people who worked on kung fu panda for flat for some things to be included like a backstory for the chameleon and inclusion of Lord shen and general Kai Mike Mitchell really messed this movie up one the ideas that he had were not that great. It’s very lucky that we got this version of the movie. One never got introduced. Human characters and the chameleon herself was supposed to be like a human character there like concept art so good that they didn’t go through with that. There are many things that were removed from the production like master shifu and tai lung having a final goodbye. The furious five was not gonna be included, but since they heard fan complains, they added them in the last minute of the credits, so yeah, because DreamWorks did not want to pay that much money too, have returned the voice actors to say a couple of lines, also budget has to be taken accounted for since there was only $85 million for production of this movie . if you watch kung fu panda many writing inconsistencies and character regression all right example after the event of the third movie you assume that you would be a little more mature, still have his humor but more mature also for some reason when he was meditating underneath the peach tree Somehow got easily distracted and forgot about inner peace and Master shi fu he feels out of character. He easily gets angry with Po After the things he said which master Shi fu shouldn’t get extremely angry afterwards he’s been showing to be more patient with Po within the previous movies another thing that I hate about kung fu panda four is this whole choosing a new dragon warrior which doesn’t really make sense one this came out of nowhere to why does Po have to be the spiritual leader? Really think about it. He’s 20. He’s young he’s capable of fighting. Why does he have to retire that title because what he got access to the spirit, which is a plate device now. Also the movie ruins po achievements. How did the movie do this? I’ll tell you when po and zhen went to Juniper city who was immediately arrested after telling the bulls that he’s the dragon warrior because the bull said who. After not knowing who is the dragon warrior how did this ruin po achievements? It undermined the achievements that po accomplished defeating tai lung defeating Lord Shen and defeating General Kai all of of these achievements, undermined and treated like nothing nothing. These achievements were very important to po character growth. The chameleons backstory she was too small to learn kung fu so that’s why she’s evil. That’s literally the only reason she’s actually evil.

Just so you know, that so-called "Megamind vs the doom syndakit" film is NOT a sequel to the first movie, it'a pilot episode for the Megamind Rules TV series!!!! Dreamworks contracted Peacock to make it and the show then release them both on that company's own streaming service. That's why it's a low budget film and didn't get a theatrical release. Dreamworks just made the stupid mistake of advertising it too much like a movie, so too many public people are mistaking it to be one when in reality it wasn't made to be a sequel movie.

Imo not really. With dreamworks they’ve always had hit or miss projects so that’s really no surprise but lately actually good animated movies are becoming more and more rare to find. Every once in awhile we’ll get a movie like spiderverse, last wish, or del toros pinnochio but nowadays animated movies are either decent, mediocre, or bad sadly.

It does make sense that universal brought dreamworks because disney and universal had a theme park war in the 19s to the 2000s. pixar and dreamworks are also head on head competition with each other disney and pixar are on a side while universal and dreamworks are on a other side atleast universal not harasse dreamworks unlike disney.

(Edit) This is exactly I dislike sequels: normally sequels are done for profit alone, they're not art, they're products and exist just for that and vice versa. Yes, they're lazy, exactly because of that. I'd argue it's not art, because art is a reflection of human feelings. kung fu panda 4 was just as funny as the other ones, but the jokes and story had nothing to do with each other and had no real emotion, making it bad. You can remove the chameleon and nothing would've changed since she is barely even relevant to the story (Also how come she didn't get accepted in kung fu because she was "too short" even though mantis was accepted.)

Mate I think it's very justified and appropriate to have the title as such when I am talking about the decline of one of the biggest animation franchises ever. It fits right into what heavily caused this decline (Illumination, as their parent company also owns Dreamworks now). It shows just how little mainstream animated films are trying nowadays. Sure, I could have elaborated a bit more on Pixar. Maybe I'll do a video on that topic. For me, the stark difference in their quality from the original days to now is crystal clear. The quality of writing is the issue.

This video should have just been souley about Kung Fu Panda 4, and not the animation industry as a whole. @@thadmaster7 It was mainly about mainstream animated films. There are plenty of indie animated films that are amazing. Robert Dreams is a recent one that comes to mind. But lets be real the landscape of mainstream animated films is pretty dire. It's a far shot from the 2000's. Yes you will find fans of pretty much any movie ever released. Of course some adults will like a pixar film. Some people even try to defend the illumination films. A lot of them. Some people even like kfp4. That's fair enough, but I want to give my own opinion. I hold these companies in such high regard that It's important to call them out on it.
