We have been twice years ago before the hurricane and we remember Baie Rouge as our favorite beach. Did you get to stop by there? Wanted to see how it is now? Also, we always stay in Simpson Bay but maybe with traffic issue we shouldn’t? Just makes it easy to get to both sides usually.
@YYZWanderers4 күн бұрын
We didn’t visit Les Terres Basses on this visit but we did them in 2022 - our older video has good footage of 3 beaches there including BR if you want to check it out. They were great for walking but strong waves when we were there and rocky at the shoreline. As for traffic, it was bad by the causeway bridge and the main pass north of philipsburg. Marigot had slow sections but not standstill like north of Simpson Bay (Union rd?) Check the traffic on google maps and work around it. Enjoy!

Great video! Was this your first time driving on the left side of the road? How stressful was it? I’d imagine there isn’t much traffic but still 😫
@YYZWanderers4 күн бұрын
Not hard at all, the main road is well maintained, not too narrow and zero traffic, a treat if you live in the city. Come to think of it, I don’t recall any traffic lights! Appreciate the feedback, glad it was helpful.

Looks like an incredible trip to Anguilla and St. Martin/Sint Maarten! Watching the wind direction to choose the perfect beach sounds like a unique way to experience the islands. I’ll definitely be checking out the airport renovations and beach updates. Thanks for sharing this fresh perspective on such a beautiful destination! Sub and Like 36

I have been researching the hell out of my upcoming vacation to the beautiful island and enjoyed your video immensely. Would you recommend splitting a week up staying south for a few days then north the rest of the week to explore each side or was it convenient to stay in one rental for the entire week? Appreciate your time and feedback!
@YYZWanderers7 күн бұрын
If it’s 1 week, I generally probably wouldn’t bother - I like to do 5 nights min for 1 spot if I can. However, if you’re flying in/out on the north airport, you could do a couple nights up at that end then head down or vice versa. It’s such a long island making it about 3 hrs one way drive tip to tip (N. Eleuthera to lighthouse beach). That’s why we ended up flying into Gov Harbor in the middle. It also depends on what your must-stay places are eg if you want to stay in Spanish Wells or Harbour Island really badly, then it would be worth moving south to avoid a long drive back & forth. We didn’t do everything but maybe we may go back in a few years.

Do you need to carry passport travelling from dutch to french side?
@YYZWanderers7 күн бұрын
No, it’s more of an invisible border, there are markers to snap a photo but that’s about it. Most times, you don’t even know when you crossed the border other than the shop signs or street names (english vs french)

Were most of the bathrooms only pay by cash/coin?
@YYZWanderers9 күн бұрын
Other than the ones we mentioned specifically on the popular trails, there are virtually none and you have to rely on the cafes at or near the trailheads, which are mostly free but you obviously have to buy something, There were public free ones at Fanal too but didn’t use them. And yes, all paid ones were cash. At the cafe in Pico A, it was a coin turnstile in the resto! But I’m sure they would make change for bills if you needed. At the Girao skywalk, there was an attendant who took payment and made change. Seixal had free standing public coin operated toilets but we used at the restaurant instead. So definitely keep a few coins with you. I (Karen) plan my hikes around bio breaks 😂

I just started researching for our first trip to the Bahamas this year and came across your video. Funny thing is I had Jumbey house Airbnb saved as a favourite. Can you tell me is it a close walk to the beach? I’ll have my 2,4,7,&9 year old kids with me. Also do any of the beaches you visited have fish etc when snorkelling? I’m sure one has to take a boat to a good coral reef for proper snorkelling but even for my kids would you think they would see anything in the calm waters? Thanks
@YYZWanderers12 күн бұрын
That’s so funny! It’s about 20-30min walk to Hidden beach which is on the Atlantic, so it’s rough waves, not for little ones.The Caribbean side is the calm beach which you’ll have to drive to. We saw little fishes but all the beaches are more sandy and not much coral/sea life at the shore. Twin cove, Gaulding and rainbow beach would be good options as there are rocky parts near the shore and the water is calm. I think near or on Spanish Wells there are sea turtles but we didn’t make it there. Enjoy!

No, your choices are more limited unfortunately. Look for a bank that has no ATM fees eg Schwab bank. Some banks you can order currency in advance so check what fees they charge. Wise debit cards have paused US account set ups as that would be a good one too, there is an email list you can get on for Wise to be notified when they do but there is no date.

A lovely video you have made. A small correction: Pestano Churchill Bay is not the place, it is a hotel. The place is called Camara de Lobos. Worth visiting and painting! You can even make a very nice walking tour from Funchal to Camara de Lobos and back along the coast.

@@YYZWanderers It is a long video and Portuguese is not easy ! If I remember well Camara de Lobos translates to the Chamber of Wolves, but it refers to the sea lions once resting here when the place was discovered by the Portuguese.

Been there and all the beaches are the same. Just sand, umbrellas and chairs. Not one good place for snorkling.
@YYZWanderers26 күн бұрын
That’s true for many of the beaches, but some more so than others and it’s not for everyone. We’re just back and felt Happy Beach to suit us as it has no development around it and while on Mullet, we stuck to the side far away from the beach chairs. Can’t say much about the snorkelling as it was too windy the entire time.

Hello from a fellow Ontarian! I as well found this to be the most informative of the videos I have watched. Thank you! Have you hiked the LeCloche Circuit in Killarney Park? If so, how would you compare the hike up to Mirador Torres to "The Crack" or "Silver Peak"?
@YYZWanderersАй бұрын
Hey! 🇨🇦 Didn’t do La Cloche but a quick look at All Trails and the O circuit has about 2x elevation gain. But you don’t have elevation everyday so you get breaks. We hiked the Crack like 10 yrs ago and that is a cakewalk compared to the Mirador. It’s not technical and by the time you’re tired of elevation gain, you’re there. Fitz Roy in Argentina was way steeper than Torres. We just finished the TMB and that was a killer. Lmk if you want to know how we trained as it’s impossible to hike hills in Ont.
