I heard this show live when I was 15 in suburban Philly, I was a regular listener of Meatball Fulton on WXPN and this is why I've been a lifelong Beefheart fan.

This is how I’ve always dreamed that it might have been like to have gotten to see them live, 4am and all pistons firing! So much passion and precision from this version of the Magic Band and our brave Captain, Thanks for sharing this with us ❤

For a guy who has been described as not being a 'musician', he sure was a great harp player.

OK, this particular tour was with RHCP and IC and when they were in Rio Brazil flea trumpet there as well and Dean Spirit and that particular show was Mike starr last show because he found some bad drugs and overdosed, and Kurt and Laney were up all night trying to keep him alive Laney sounded like shit Mike did not deserve to be fired for that being shot up cocaine with Alice In Chains and I’m most. Definitely sure RHCP as well. No one has anything to say about those two things as well during this particular tour and talk about when briefly pulled out his junk. She can hardly see that. Say nothing about one flea is completely naked with his balls slapping on those words that 99 negative comments. I’ve heard doubt in this being his worst worst score. In fact I think it’s great and I think that it was one of the other two were shows to be honest, but they were all on the same drugs kids, there’s three separate shows that I’m speaking of I’m saying tour

Sounds wonderful! I"m amazed that something this good has had so few views after almost a decade online. It appears to be one of the better live recordings. Thanks!

I wonder if Beefheart really knew how to play saxphone,or is it true he wrote the Trout album on piano which he never knew how to play? Legendary genius.

Yeah if you read John French's book he goes into vivid detail about the process. Vliet was certainly a composer in his way but would've been lost without French or Harkleroad. I don't think this kind of creative relationship is so uncommon in bands, it's just that the compositions lend themselves to scrutiny because they are very experimental

I REALLY miss the harmonica adding that extra crispy oomph that the studio version has. So much so I might buy a harmonica to recreate it... No idea why that particular sound gives me the best eargasm

Fascinating interview. What I love about Don van Vliet is he sees the world differently than most everyone else. His observations are unique, his way of explaining the imbalance of nature, for example (the Hopi word is koyaanisqatsi). The way he talks about the world is just as unique as his music and lyrics. His poem that was recited about the desert was really profound.
