You will never achieve what they did, if your so upset about the state of music today why don't you get off your lazy ass and make some 'Quality' Rock'n'Roll music. "Here is the real deal" Van Halen is so fucking generic sure they have some amazing songs but for the most part I can't stand an entire album by them. "We'll never have such fun concerts again" Sure most mainstream concerts aren't the best today but it's really not that hard to go to a local event and find a band you like, You don't need to pay $200 so you can see a shitty van halen concert to have fun.

its crazy how long that reference actually survived if you think about it, the seashells and burlap thing. It first appeared in this 1987 demo, then again on "swapmeet" and then finally on the bands official bio for geffen in 91. it says that cobain and novoselic first met in an arts and crafts class glueing seashells to burlap, or something along those lines.

Which is funny because in this version yoy can clearly hear him doing pull-offs only. It's good he decided to change it. Because the hammer on with pull off version is more dynamic.

i remember seeing Pen Cap Chew on flyers when i was like 13 around here. around time of or little b4 like Groove Hat or Mutiny or Cobalt Sun and maybe Soylent Green and people like that. like McCleary VFW and the Artic and stuff. Kirk Meredith played guitar for Mutiny he beat my high score on Spy Hunter at CandS in Elma before he grew his hair long and rebelled against his parents...i always remember that...

It has a lot of similarities with Paper Cuts and Big Long Now in terms of the vibe. If You Must too, somewhat. Kurt briefly commented on that approach to writing in the Incesticide liner notes. It’s too bad that he didn’t give the thought of an album or EP like that more serious consideration. He was very a very effective songwriter in that type of style. As great of a pop rock music songwriter he was, his ability to create very dark music was almost uncomfortably efficient. As if it were actually coming from him rather than simply taking a perspective musically. Not that lyrics obviously (as fitting as they are for the music) but the music itself coming from himself somehow. Kurt’s mind was in some very…”disorganized” and disturbing places sometimes in his journals. Especially his illustrations. The “smiles” characters or whatever they were called. And Mr. Moustache. Kurt’s voice is very convincing also.

Awesome rare tape, Unknown #3 is a menace, also songs like If You Must, Mexican Seafood and Pen Cap Chew sound better hear than other versions, sounds like they are in standard E here and a half step higher, it fits Kurt's voice imo and doesn't sound as much like they are trying to be a heavy dark grunge band and just their own thing, his voice sounds incredible here

how list this unknown wah pedal in any gear lists! I mean I know he used a Univox Superfuzz pedal on Fecal Matter demo, but I've never heard of him using a wah, and no pictures from this era ever show a wah in his pedal chain! He was notorious in these days for using two DS-1's! I'm sure it has to be a Boss Superfeedbacker/Distortion pedal! they're sick! look em up! you might like it as well! It could also be a Echoflanger!

this is an interesting gig and era, where nirvana was transitionning from fecal mater to bleach,it's somehow right in the middle of it.downer is a good exemple of this. it improved from the fecal matter version, but is not quite yet as defined as what we got on bleach.I like this stuff,I like discovering thos songs their infancy!love buzz sounds so much more simple and basic,I don't like the tempo shift in pen cap chew but at least,it's not cut,and still sounds pretty good.unknown #1 sound very interesting, never heard it before!!I wish this was professionnaly remastered...
