Ah, shit, it's going to take another year! Great job.
@DW20128 күн бұрын
@Sven-v8s3b it's not going to take a year. The reason part 2 took a year was due a high number of vfx shots, over 800GB in total were created for this epsiode, that and a lot of personal events happened over the year, including myself and Meg getting married. We dedicate so much of our time to the project, it takes a lot of time to complete these episodes. We only ask for your patience whilst we work our hardest to get it done.I can promise you that part 3 will be out soon! :)

The long awaited second part - in some ways, a little bit of a letdown. The first part was sprawling every which way, from a mysterious murder, to the Doctor being subtly and incompatibly different every time we saw him, to time jumps, Silurians, Cybermen, the second Doctor. There were so many plot threads and ideas laid out every which way it was dizzying. In contrast this is deeply restrained. The flash and sizzle is gone, and instead, we seem to be revisiting the episodes of the Purple Doctor era, as the Doctor and Megan revisit their own time line and adventures. What we get instead are revelations, carefully parceled out, explaining just what the hell is going on, but not everything. The villains start to take center stage, but it's almost unsatisfying - its tough to see the faceless puppeteer(s) making their moves, it takes a little away from the menace and mood. But its interesting to see them feeling their way, coping and reacting, a bit unsure of themselves, having a plan but improvising as well. Possibly what makes the Villains difficult is that they're masked with flat voices that give nothing - there's very little personality coming off them, so they're there and not there in a sense, if you get what I mean. I actually thought that the villains were the same person, just past and future versions of the same person working together - something timey wimey like that. But the ending caught me by surprise. Good job. As to the ending, I confess, I was wondering going into the last fifteen or twenty minutes how it could possibly wrap up all the scattered plot threads from the first episode and the intricacies of these new developments. I thought it would be lopsided and uneven. But I appreciate the way it closed, and it makes me intrigued to see what the Purple Doctor and Megan will do in his next episode. Overall, the CGI and effects work is amazing, particularly for what amounts to a no-budget production. When I look at what DW2012 does in this episode with literally nothing, and what RTD did with Empire of Death and a million pounds, I'm physically sick to my stomach. As always Megan Shirley (Williams) gives a stunning performance. DW2012 has always been interesting and even brilliant at times, but her joining the production was such a stroke of fortune - she elevated the whole show. Megan's always brought naturalism, nuance and subtlety to her role, and here it's a virtuouso performance as she plays several subtly different versions of herself, each distinct and focused, and has the advantage of moving the story along. I especially liked the scene where Megan meets a past self from a previous adventure and there's an awkward, but subtle conversation - perfectly done. Dominic G. Martin, playing the Doctor, does the job with his usual aplomb, again playing slightly different versions of himself. It's a very subtle, very carefully tuned series of performances, very impressive. He's always reminded me of a slightly softer version of Richard Ayoade, as intelligent and focused, a bit more careful and caring. I liked the rapier intelligence signifiers that were borrowed from Downey's and Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes - that interior monologue or visual display showing a clever mind working at light speed, and wish it would come back. But it's working. Ben Walden is the third leg of the triangle, and he actually gives one of his best performances as Tommy, laid back, focused and establishing a presence. On reflection, just thinking it over, I'm realizing that there's enough nuance going on in here that I'm probably going to have to watch the episode again, the performances and story is that complex. Indeed, I'm probably going to have to go back and rewatch the Fall of the Doctor and the entire Purple Doctor oevre, because I'm starting to suspect that I may need to reappraise everything based on what we're seeing now. Newman is a deceptively layered writer - when he did his Little Red Doctor arc, he wrote the ending first, and then worked his way backwards. Despite hiccups and improvisations along the way, the result was an organic story over four seasons. I'm starting to think he may have done the same thing with the Purple Doctor - that he may have did this story first, and then designed the rest of the series around it. We'll see if it pays off, but it's Next-Level Doctor Who writing. It's an evolved updated version of the stuff Russell T. Davies was doing originally, and which Moffat and Chibnall failed at. Even with the Gatwa series, RTD really hasn't evolved or advanced his narrative technique, he's still retreading his narrative arc the way he did it fifteen years ago, only more inept and clumsily, he hasn't evolved or developed, and it's clear that by modern standards, he's being left behind. Anyway, I'm not here to crap on RTD or Moffs or Chibs. I'm just so very impressed by the next level storytelling going on here. As with everything, there are problems and limitations. Green's sometimes a little hesitant in his performance, his Doctor sometimes needs to be harsher and louder. There are limits to the CGI, the production values, even story, editing and pacing. Shots tend to drag on a little too long. But again, when you compare resources to accomplishment, it's stunning. Overall, I have some misgivings, but I'm eager to see what comes next. Good job DW2012 crew, good job. Now hurry up and get the next episode out PS: Have you guys been following Devious? Fifth of the six episodes are out, lots of fun.

It’s nice this whole episode we’ve followed the Doctor and Meg from rhe other universe and we’ve only seen glimpse of the main universe ones (even if they’re clips from the past) and that cliffhanger (spoilers) it’s wild that the Doctor and Megan from the main universe were the people in black all along tryna stop the pastel doc form screwing everything up

Gotta say, I was so impressed by this I felt I had to comment. This handled the whole "finale story that ties the season together" thing better than a lot of official stories have. Very Moffat-coded with a dash of Turn Left. The twist at the very end was also genuinely really damn clever. Even the best fan films can struggle with this kind of material but I gotta say, genuinely very impressive on pretty much all levels. Loved how needlessly aggressive the Pink Doctor was and enjoyed his redemption.
