Thank you! Genius! Word of caution though, the only thing holding the tail light up after it's released will be the wiring, so be prepared to catch it and don't let it get too far away from the car. It may be best to do it towards your chest. It only needs to move an inch or so to be released from the clip and pins. You don't need to rip on the strap, just a sharp tug. The entire process took about two minutes. I was dreading the prying against the paint and pulling, so I put some strips of painters tape down where I used the pry tool to make a gap.

So I haven't had to do that before, but I think on the inside part of the hatch, there should be a little black plate made of plastic that you can pop off? Not 100% sure but that's what I would check first.

Thanks so much you just saved me about $47! The dealer wants $50 to change brake light. I bought the Sylvania 7443 last year for about $6/2 bulbs ($3 a bulb) from Amazon on my Legacy which was a lot easier to change out--access from inside trunk. This time my Forester needed a little more elbow grease. Your trick of using the belt was excellent which I didnt have, so I sub for a flat 1" wide rope (pajama's cord). And tape a flathead screwdriver with electrical tape. After removing the 2 screws using Philips which was easy, I pried the plastic casing with the flathead as you showed slightly, finnessed the rope in and popped that case out, changed the bulb etc all done in 20 minutes for an absolute novice and non-handy person like me, the satisfaction was enormous. Big thanks to you!!

@Explorer-pj1nx7 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking so nicely - so a lot of these different from dealership to dealership so there's a lot of varience. In my case, it is a simple twist off nut on top, and the cover comes off and you pull the paper filter right out. Yours might be different though, if you have one. These were dealership options though so it may not even have one!
