Congratulations on your purchase. Make sure that you join the owners club and register for Distress Line. It is a great service that means if you ever have a problem you will almost certainly get some help from fellow members to get you back on your way. We bought our cover from classic additions. It is the smallest car cap they do and fits Alpi well. I wish we’d had it before the rain in Shropshire! [email protected]

In the interest of safety & being seen, I added a dual-element receptacle to my front turn signals, so now the large yellow turn signal would also be a parking / running light, then used a bright LED bulb. I did the same on the rear adding a dual-element receptacle to the top turn signal, so that now I have four running lights instead of the just two lower originals, & again used bright LED bulbs. In the world of people, driving while looking at there phones, maybe a little extra lighting will help us to be seen! Hello. Great video. I have just bought an alpine with the 1725 holbay engine. I noticed that on the upright pipe to the oil filler cap there is a pipe bellow which I have nothing attached- is it just a rubber hose I connect to it and where does it go. I’m new to these. Thanks
@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel
@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel 21 күн бұрын
There is usually a rubber pipe that goes to the air filters on a standard Series V 1725 Alpine. There is another pipe from the tappet chest cover to a pollution control valve (pcv) in the inlet manifold. The idea was to reduce emissions. It is often removed and the pipe is vented to atmosphere under the car (unless the local rules prevent this). If the engine is healthy not many fumes comes out of either pipe.

Thanks, this was really helpful while I was trying to sort out the woeful wipers on my Sunbeam. In addition to your excellent video, a couple of other things I found helped; the end float on the wiper motor shaft can be adjusted to take out any play due to wear, and also by replacing the rubber bushes on the motor/motor bracket a considerable amount of lost motion was removed, resulting in a larger sweep angle on the screen.

V helpful video. I replaced my wheelboxes and rack because the passenger side wiper was slipping. It all went smoothly, but to my horror, the passenger side wiper is still slipping. I simply can't understand it, because all 'toothed' parts are now new. Could it be the motor? It just seems illogical. Any insights gratefully received.
@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel
@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel Ай бұрын
Could it be that the splines in the wiper arm itself are worn away and it is turning because it is not engaging with the splines on the new wheel box?
@MrJeremyMathias
@MrJeremyMathias Ай бұрын
@@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel thank you for your reply. Since I commented, I took another look, and have narrowed it down to one of the new wheelboxes. When the wiper motor is switched off, the wheelbox spindle is immovable (as it should be). However, with the motor in operation, if I squeeze the spindle with my thumb and forefinger, the spindle 'slips' on its cog/rack teeth. So I tried gripping the wheelbox with a grip wrench (to close it up more), and that 'resolved' the issue. I really don't want to have to remove the whole show again, so I'm going to try using Sealey Micro Welding Clamps to close up the wheelbox. A bit Heath Robinson, but if it works, I will go with it. Apologies for a rambling response.

Steve there are various cam options as well as other performance modifications, all parts are available. Some owners fit Holbay engines with twin 40 Webers. Some owners fit V6 or even V8 engines. I am not aware of anyone fitting turbos. Back in the 1960s Alpines were very successfully raced with the standard engine, it can be tuned in multiple ways. An Alpine is a very well balanced, high quality car and will perform very well with a lot less than 175.

I had just closed the timing cover on a 1725 motor that I'm rebuilding having festidiously assembled it to syncronise the camshaft , crankshaft and oil pump. I thought it was correct but inuitively I made reference to this video. It was wrong. The all valuable sequence runs from 19:37 to 21:35 . It is true that the wording in all the workshop manuals that I have do not make it clear. When the cam & crank sprocket markings are in line at TDC 1& 4, the engine is actually at the No 4 TDC firing stroke: not No 1. Your video demonstrates clearly that the crank needs to be rotated another 360 degrees clockwise so that the cam marking moves 180 degrees from the original setting, The distributor drive on the oil pump is then positioned with the smaller segment at an angle of 47-49 degrees to the line of the motor. Why didn't the workshop manual simply have the timing marks at No 1 TDC . If the slot in the oil pump drive is not properly positioned it immediately creates difficulties with the distributor position because the slot os offset. Thanks for posting. A big help.
