How does it know the exact corner coordinates to properly zero?
@LaserGarage

In carbide create you set the origin location, in this case the bottoms left corner. Then you jog your but into the bit zero and run the probing sequence.

Shoot me an email. I designed an upgraded version to be made of 3/4” MDF. I was going to start selling them but kinda lost interest in it. I’m moving forward with a model for the slatted extension kit version though. I’ll send you what I have though and you can use it or add to it. [email protected]

Hi Brett, I’m rewatching this video because of trouble I’m experiencing with my monport 60w co2. So now that it’s been one more year are you still happy with the monport?

I sold the 80w a couple of months ago, not because I didn’t like it, but because I needed a more industrial machine for my business. I would have kept it if I had the space though. What problems are you having with your 60w?

@@LaserGarage a few days ago things worked fine. The very next day on the same material it wouldn’t cut but did engrave ok. We cleaned mirrors and checked power source (24mv while operating) . Machine is approximately 2 years old with moderate use so I figure tube should be ok. Today will check mirror alignment. Thanks for concern and tips. Also thanks for sharing through your videos

Hi Brett, I just received my 4x2 and wanted to bolt it to a flip table. How did you fasten your cnc to the table? I did not see any good spots to fasten it to a table. Thanks Ray

I had my Shapeoko pro on a flip table and it had mounting holes in the frame that I drove screws through. The 5 pro does not have those holes unfortunately.

Hey thanks for taking the time to do this video. I'm nearing retirement and looking to get into CNC woodworking. I'm a hobbyist, and have a bit of experience with 3D printing so I'm familiar with 3D modeling and GCode. I'm gravitating toward this exact model. My shop is a single bay stall garage, and I think the 2 x 4 would give me the ability to do long carvings, but not protrude into my workspace too much. The thing I'm not sure about is whether to go with a router, or a VFD spindle. The router doesn't cost much, and frankly the router wouldn't go to waste if I started with the router, and later decided to upgrade to the VFD. Sounds like you used only a router for the first couple years of CNC work without any serious limitations. Since I'm just planning to get started, I don't see that I would need the spindle - EXCEPT, that I'm also interested in possibly doing a bit of aluminum milling. Can that be done with a router? I've heard they don't have a lot of torque at lower speeds, and I'm guessing aluminum needs to be milled at lower RPM's to keep the heat down. Do you have an comments or advice? I assume you're developing your vectors and tool paths on a laptop somewhere and then transferring them to your tablet over a network. So are you only running the machine control software on the tablet? On the video, I think I saw you controlling the tablet with some sort of handheld controller. What was that?
@LaserGarage
@LaserGarage 14 күн бұрын
You’re very welcome thank you. Save some money and start with the router. You can definitely mill some aluminum with it. I love the VFD and spindle but for me it’s more of a convenience thing rather than a power/torque thing. I like how the VFD controls the spindle on/off with gcode as well as rpm. The controller I was using is just a wireless keyboard I use to jog the machine around. I do my designs on my laptop and transfer them to my tablet/carbide motion to run the job.

There is a link to the exact model in the description of the video. It’s just a simple little windows tablet, connect via usb to the machine. It’s basically just a touch screen computer. Still going strong after all this time. I’m not sure if it’s still available but you can at least check out the specs and find something similar.

Some input on smoke and fume extraction. Wifey is not enthused about me punching a 4 inch hole in our stucco and tbh, neither am I all that much. Distance to the garage door to put it outside throigh or under it is 24+ feet, not overly practical
@LaserGarage
@LaserGarage 24 күн бұрын
Yup, smoke extraction is extremely important. I have an 8” vent going out through my roof and a 6” vent through my stucco wall for my galvo machines. Works well for me. They sell portable air purifiers as a venting option but they pricey and filters need to be changed of course. If you’re interested in checking these out Jason from Rotoboss is starting to distribute these from a company called apple air I believe.
