actually a minecraft tnt have a power of 360KG of tnt which is way less than the actual weight of a cubic meter of tnt (1650KG) so i guess this is were all the sand went (edit : according to my calculations, each shot have a power of 8,5 kT which is still a lot)

Those are some pretty decent sized craters, certainly gives some explosives mods a run for their money.
