Thanks for the video from Nice and Éze and this one from Villefranche Sur Mer. The view from the old castle on Mont Boron is the best over the bay. I have more tips for hidden villages that are real gems around the area. I often take my car or bike to Villefranche for lunch on my fauvorite little restaurant on the square. I live in Nice during the winter since 2019 and the town has so much more to offer than just being a tourist spot. If you come back to visit, do not miss Roquebrune just above Monaco and also a couple of small villages above Menton, Gorbio and Saint Jeannet. Further up from the well known tourist trap of Saint Paul de Vence you will find Tourettes Sur Loup and Gourdon perched up on a cliff with a view to die for over the whole eastern Riviera. I still find new hidden gems as I get to know people down there. The French riviera is my place to be in Europe in the winter. Mild weather, few tourists, excellent food and culture and beautiful architecture. Expensive, yes, but as long as I can afford it, I will stay....

you should see how the French park their cars. Always without a gear engaged. So that they can push the car in front or behind away if it gets too tight... haha...

2.5 times the scope on the anchor knowing that 20+ knots of wind are coming? Wow... you should go to and learn anchoring basics. At least 5-6 times of scope, ie. 60 m would be the absolute minimum to avoid dragging in the sandy bottom.

I think you should set sail for Australia with that bad boy! I am more of a cat guy, but that is a great boat. Sure, you need a better dodger for the helms, but that is a modification that could be made.

Why don't you just read the navigation rules instead of traveling like a dumb? There are many places that are forbidden to navigation and/or mooring.

How do this solo sailors handle not sleeping? Sure, you can do it for awhile but you can only burn both ends of a candle for so long. When people are fatigued they can make some horrible mistakes. I am gathering mistakes for a solo sailor in the middle of the ocean could be very bad.

While the trail renovations are really well done, I do wish the older path would have also been maintained as a via ferrata. It's a great location for it and there are many people who could traverse it safely. Personally, I'd love to be able to hike the path, then use the old path as a means of returning to the start. Thanks for the video.

I enjoy all the videos but it seems that every time they pull into port somewhere and Kristina and John leave the boat, Kelly’s always stuck behind or if they do go in town it always seems like they ditch her.

Totally see how this lands, but let me assure you, I spent the most time on the boat then all of us 🙃 Many many times Kelly and John ventured out into town together and I was on the boat needing to catch up on work. The only reason why you don’t see this is because Kelly and John don’t film their ventures 😅

Secondly, the jib sheet being over ridden doesn’t prevent you from dropping the sail. You could’ve always just lowered the jib halyard instead of rolling it in. So yeah not the drama you describe. Cmon you don’t need to exaggerate the situations.
@KristinasTravels
@KristinasTravels 16 күн бұрын
I'm not sure how long you've been following us Rodent, but we have never been in this situation before, we've never been to this anchorage/bay, there are expensive boats all around us in St Tropez, John is essentially single handed sailing/motoring (fyi Kelly only has her competent crew course before joining us on this trip), and John and I only have (all up) around 10 months sailing experience on a boat. We didn't grow up on boats, in fact we learnt how to sail during covid. So this for us is not drama, this is real life. We are learning along the way and this was again, as I mentioned earlier, a situation we have never been in. It was a learning curve and I'm grateful it happened, as now we have another little notch of experience in our belts :)

Hey, why do you say you’re sailing at the beginning of the video when you’re actually motoring? So annoying. You should only say you’re sailing if you have sails hoisted and the engine off. Thank you!

I heard that boat design is specifically made to go past 90 deg (a knockdown) - if it gets close to 70 deg it's meant to keep going, in fact designed to speed up the rollover so it bounces off the water. I know that sounds crazy, I thought so when a Naval Architect who designs similar "Volvo-type" race boats explained it to me. Apparently if you design the boat to be extremely unstable past 70 deg. you are also increasing the likelihood of it tipping back upright. Meaning: this ultra-instability is designed-in to the 70-100 deg rollover zone, so the slightest force pushing it upright again, ie when the rig hits the sea in knockdown, will send it back back upright again. Goes against all you think is sane and good. Imagine the sailor who has this explained to them and still hops in the boat, alone, to circumnavigate the entire southern ocean! I wonder what the diameter of those rudder posts is... lot of deflection I would have thought.... Same guy told me the boats have to chuck a drogue over the transom and not the bow if they lose steerage. Apparently over the bow the boat will just snake around like on a mooring ball in a hurricane. Love to hear from someone who knows if this is all bullshit.
