Absolutely amazing that after all that obliteration, came life with the new ash minerals and the animals to help set it in motion 😊

Very well done! Sadly, the road to Johnson observatory was taken out in a landslide (2023-4?), with the fix years in the making

Thank God it was on a Sunday. So many people including loggers would have perished.

I love that the sheriff says "it doesn't take a scientist to know when a mountain changes in size daily, something bad is going to happen. First of all this was 1980 and they really hadn't seen anything like this before because of the way the volcano had the magma chamber. We know it blew but back then they weren't sure what was going to happen or what was happening. I was born a year and a month after this eruption. It’s sad people lost their lives. It’s just such an interesting story. I hope to some day visit it I’m all the way in Massachusetts. I want to visit the Oso, WA landslide while I’m there. For some reason that really affected me. I think because all the houses were there and then this landslide happens and wipes a neighborhood right out.

WHAT🎶 music 🎶 is playing in the background, if anyone knows? I know that I've heard it before, but can't remember what it by whom. My parents and kids visited the area sometime between 1990 and 1992. It was AMAZING/AWESOME!!! I had a calendar of the Cascade Mountains and when I would show the photo for December, NO ONE could tell me what mountain it showed! It was, of course, covered with snow, but, the view was of the side that is behind the crater. I'm going to try and find it so I can use it as wallpaper on my tablet.

I don't know what you said, but, I have a book that says that Indonesia has THE MOST VOLCANOES, WITH 167 ACTIVE ONES! I don't think I want to go there! 😁

If anyone plans on moving here be aware you may not be lucky to escape the next eruption like at least 100 "known" people didn't escape and just 57 were found cooked and sufficated alive trying to escape the eruption .

People are afraid when they don't truly understand the science. We track activity on the cascades volcanoes closely.. they never erupt without indicating beforehand like gas emissions or seismic activity for example. The usgs scientists who were at St. Helens knew an eruption was coming and were aware of the risks involved more than anyone

Do you have data from USGS to prove that Hood is active again? The track the gas emissions, and I haven't heard about any increasing seismic activity

Otherwise it's just speculation and fearmongering

We had been at the beach and were forced to drive home before the freeway was shut down. Traffic was at a standstill at Kelso and we had a nice view of the eruption.

The thing I don't get is that someone actually took video of the eruption as it happened, somewhere on a hill to the West (probably somewhere on the Napavine area or maybe a little south of there). I saw it only once on the Weather Channel and I've never seen it again. Beats me why that never gets used elsewhere, someone must be trying to get a big payday form the rights?
@josephastier74215 жыл бұрын
I've seen it, and others on KZbin. Keep looking.

It was actually taken from the Silver Lake area and is about 5 seconds in length. The guy was trying to familiarize himself with a new-fangled video camera and happened to be recording at just the right time

My parents were living in Eugene. My mother thought dad upstairs had fallen out of bed when the boom happened. We lived 45 miles from Eugene in Mapleton. We were in the garden and thought someone had blasted something miles away. What an experience all around.

This is a great documentary on Mount Saint Helens. Thank you so much. Would have viewed this sooner, but I just have finally gotten a computer and learning to get into the different sites. Remembered following the news back in 1980 when she first started showing activity and all that followed. So glad that everything is coming back.

This was great, I'm from Portland and was here for the amazing view and dust for a year....this was a great way to explain the chain of events and shows how powerful it all was. Great Job.
