My parents were living in Eugene. My mother thought dad upstairs had fallen out of bed when the boom happened. We lived 45 miles from Eugene in Mapleton. We were in the garden and thought someone had blasted something miles away. What an experience all around.

We had been at the beach and were forced to drive home before the freeway was shut down. Traffic was at a standstill at Kelso and we had a nice view of the eruption.

The fact that it happened on a Sunday, with no logging crews in the forest, was pure luck.

There were logging crews in the forests around the volcano

The thing I don't get is that someone actually took video of the eruption as it happened, somewhere on a hill to the West (probably somewhere on the Napavine area or maybe a little south of there). I saw it only once on the Weather Channel and I've never seen it again. Beats me why that never gets used elsewhere, someone must be trying to get a big payday form the rights?

I've seen it, and others on KZbin. Keep looking.

It was actually taken from the Silver Lake area and is about 5 seconds in length. The guy was trying to familiarize himself with a new-fangled video camera and happened to be recording at just the right time

I don't know what you said, but, I have a book that says that Indonesia has THE MOST VOLCANOES, WITH 167 ACTIVE ONES! I don't think I want to go there! 😁
