So this is hard to watch like requiem for a dream

I wanted to watch it when i was 14 or something, got disturbed by the ending of ep 1 and dipped, thinking i was the only person that touched it ,the animation style is what captivated me surprisingly, really love when shows try to diverge from the norm ,so yeah might stomach it one day but not yet

What converted the characters from "human" into "ugly" was the intentional lack of shadows and key details in the painting (expression lines and lips mainly, and empty faces when characters were located at certain distances, as chapters were being emited later) , and the actors choosen for the filming were chosen specifically to be "umpleasant" when filmed in black and white, (they do look pretty normal when you see the color photos of them), and they were too old for the age represented (which introduced another umpleasant layer to the show). The Japanese fans of the manga were outraged at this, back then. The whole point of the style choosen was to give the spectator an "umpleasant" and "disgusting" experience, since that was the original intent of the mangaka in the original work in the first place.

This is my favorite anime. I'd just like to point out that a live-action film was made not too long ago. And I was very impressed at the job the director did with adapting the entire Manga into a watchable movie. If you like this anime or Manga, see the movie.

I remember watching the show and being shook at how crazy it was (I was new to this type of psychological anime at the time). Once I realized that the anime wasn't finished and it'll never be finished I said fuck it, I'm a read the rest... WTF DID I READ?!?!? Shit somehow gets as fucked as Goodnight PunPun (read that after this). One thing I wish tho from the manga tho is that the final interaction between MC and LI was a lil more tense for just trauma based reasons but other than that, top 10 psychological manga I've read

my only complaint abt this anime is that it cuts off *right* before it gets super good in the manga. shuzo is such a fantastic storyteller. i love how heavily he relies on facial expressions, like theres not a lot of dialogue per panel, but it still manages to keep the same substance. his use of common themes in his different works is also appreciated. a lot of it deals with abuse, manipulation, and (regardless of whether or not he realizes it) personality disorders--specifically bpd (in flowers of evil), and npd (inside mari, iykyk and if you dont, you should). what gets me abt flowers of evil is that, i've noticed he tends to focus on abusive mothers in particular. flowers of evil doesn't have nearly as much parental interactions, but it ends up giving us a much different perspective; parents that don't really keep track of what their kids are up to. shuzo is absolutely one of the artists that uses his medium as a form of catharsis, you absolutely cannot convince me otherwise.

The anime they really fucked up was the promised neverland. The manga was great, quit the anime after only a couple eps because they changed shit.
