Do you have to consider springback in your mold if you need precise arcs?
@TheHomeHandymanКүн бұрын
With heat applied and in a jig i can get it fairly precise before removing it. I suppose it depends on how precise in the bending you want but i have had good success by heating bending, checking, possibly bending a bit further to get the measurement i want.

I had a 6 inch, 1/3 HP grinder. Then I bought and 8 inch 3/4 HP after watching Tim Allen on Tool Time. Bigger is better, right? Wrong! Used it twice and found out how much more noisy, more vibration, and more dangerous it was so, I went back to my dinky 1/3 HP grinder. Much happier now.
@oscarperales83652 күн бұрын
Remove the grinding wheels, turn on the grinder. If it sounds smooth with little vibration then you need to trouble shoot your wheels. The grind wheels should fit the arbor snuggly. After you put back the grind wheels, if there is vibration, then the wheels are out of 'round' or they are not closely matched in weight. This throws the balance of the motor rotation off and causes vibration. This will also happen when you have 1 wheel and 1 wire wheel which is lighter in weight. Some grinders come with a carbide tool to true up the grinding wheel when the wheel surface is out of 'round'. Remember any balanced motor runs smoother.

This video is funny you basically says why would you want a 9 inch angle grinder and it's heavy. I think anyone who needs a 9-in angle grinder knows that it's heavy and they know why they need it. Most likely for cutting concrete
@TheHomeHandyman5 күн бұрын
good luck with that
@TheSaltyEgo5 күн бұрын
@TheHomeHandyman I mean the only reason I want a 9-in table grinder is because I just just did a concrete job and I cut 20 ft of concrete trench dry with no problem. That told me I no longer need a wet saw or to rent a 10-in to 12-in concrete saw.

So I've been using minwax paste wax for bowls on my wood lathe. If I were to use johnson paste wax, would it leave a shiny finish if I were to apply it from the power of the lathe??
@TheHomeHandyman7 күн бұрын
I also use Minwax now for many of my lathe turnings, bowls inside in particular. The way I use it now is I apply 1-2 coats of oil, 3m pad or 0000 between each coat, Then apply 1-2 coats of Minwax and buff it on the lathe. I use the lathe power for each of these coats and get pretty nice results.

. . . You know, HF raises prices just like everyone else, but honestly I am surprised that prices for certain things now are actually _cheaper_ than they were 4 years ago You dont see that very often from retailers, especially not ones that own their own stock.

I have several of the Bauers with no complaints and I’d say they are excellent tapes for around the house DIY stuff. The 16ft is actually my preferred at home for its size and readability. I have yet to get the Hercules but I plan to soon. For on the job I’d trust the Fatmax or Milwaukee unless your strapped for that green stuff the Bauer will see you through if called upon.
@markfbeyth5628 күн бұрын
Another solution you can try is to soak the hammer head in antifreeze the pink RV stuff I believe it is propylene glycol not ethylene glycol RV antifreeze less toxic I think it is also used to enable green wood to be turned on a lathe just my two cents

Thanks - worth trying

Those things and the $1 Pittsburg tapes are cheap enough when on sale that I have more than a dozen of them scattered around the shop. As for accuracy, if you need true precision, a tape measure is NOT what you use.

Nice demonstration! Is there an advantage using wipe on poly vs. Lacquer. It seems lacquer would be faster. Thanks.
@TheHomeHandyman28 күн бұрын
Wipe On Poly works great but you will spend more time applying it and building it up. Lacquer will build up much faster as the drying time is so much faster. The best way to apply lacquer is to use a sprayer which some do not have which then you can just use the wipe on. I use a small hobby sprayer (See my video on Badger Sprayer) but you need decent compressor and filtration so prevent problems. Most of my finish work is with Lacquer but if you do not have the ability or set up then the wipe on works very well.

are you comparing a chargeable lamp to a battery one? the spec sheet you showed took AAA batteries. I loved the quantum. it has a smart feature that shuts the lamp off instead of cycling through the different modes if you've had it on for more than like 30 seconds and it gets respectable time. I regularly take it out on 3 hour hikes and it doesn't fail. My milwauke battery lamp lasts longer but isn't as bright.

Have you done a video on sharpening drill bits? I know there are a lot on KZbin, but is there one you suggest?
@TheHomeHandymanАй бұрын
No not yet but look at the last link in the description regarding General Tools Bit Sharpener - Many at the club use this and i have tried it out there and it works well but there is a learning curve to using it. There are several videos on using it also and right now it is on sale at a good price. Currently I have a jig of my own I use but i have thought about buying this one because correctly it gives you a very good sharpening.
@Toyotas_n__ToolsАй бұрын
I drill into titanium and I need a small size approx 1/16" and 1/4" I have trouble with other brand bits but the hercules 1/4" cobalt hex bits are the best ive used for drilling. They beat my milwaukee and dewalts. Without going into a carbide drill bits that are extremely expensive those are a great choice.
@TheHomeHandymanАй бұрын
Yeah that is what i have found also. My lathe tools (most of them) that i use often are carbide and they were not cheap but i can sharpen them up and use them for a long time.
@davidwalle5025Ай бұрын
I agree. I buy my drills from industrial supply house
@TheHomeHandymanАй бұрын
Yeah they seem to be much more durable and when you sharpen them, they stay sharp for a long period of time. Just shows you that they are made out of a much higher quality material.

Any idea on the tensil strength on he harbor freight 1/2 inch rope?
@TheHomeHandymanАй бұрын
No but when i looked it up it says: Haul Master 1/2" x 100' Diamond Braid Rope has a tensile strength o 310 lbs. Haul Master !/2" x 50' Sisal Rope has a working load capacity of 275 lbs.
@gavinhodge2290Ай бұрын
@TheHomeHandyman thanks, I think I found some information ..not about that particular rope but ropes in general that a safe working load " should be" 1/5 of he actual breaking or tensil strength so the harbor freight rope might have a breaking strength of around 1500 lbs

I've also got that cart. I paid $45 or so through the ITC program. It's ok. It does need some reinforcement or modifications to hold anything moderately heavy and get any serious use out of it. And, the hardware that comes with it is very cheap but works to hold it together. I almost went down to the local hardware store just to get better quality screws, washers, and nuts. I do wish it was a bit sturdier. But, like I said, it's ok for the price. I'll probably be getting one of the 3-shelf ones, too. They're $50 right now with the ITC discount.

I like the idea of repurposing wrenches which are "broken" and you can't use anymore. However I feel that older wrenches which are still in good shape shouldn't be used to make these projects. Use the wrenches that are so badly pitted from rust that are not good as a tool for those projects. Then they will be memories of the old good quality tools of our fathers. Just a suggestion.
