I'm a half-stoned cowboy, Who fell off on his ass in the middle of the rodeo, Just a half-stoned cowboy, Buying beer and whiskey for people I don't even know, And I wonder where my money goes. I was having a drink alone, When someone called me to the phone, He was making a joke about trouble that was coming my way, It was my wife saying what's your game, You know you ought to be a bloody ashamed the way you carry on, You got a load of children starving, And a jungle that once was a garden, And you're off like a shot every night as far as I can see. Like a half-stoned cowboy, Who fell off on his ass in the middle of the rodeo, Just a half-stoned cowboy, Buying beer and whiskey for people you don't even know, Then you wonder where your money goes. She says I think I'm gona go insane, The kitchens got a blocked up drain, The baby's got a stomach pain and won't stop his crying, But I know what I'm gona do,

The year was 1995, I think. Village Key area of Tortola, BVI. I lived in the islands from 1981 to 1996. A Scottish mate of mine told this joke a fair piece better than Billy did, if I say so. He did. I remember. Never forgot it the joke.

Such a classic. I've retold this joke many many times (always crediting Billy of course since he's a guarantee of comic authenticity) It's been years since I heard his version and I was quite surprised how short it was. The switch in the punch line is the perfect crowd pleaser.

I’m so mad I don’t understand some of this brilliant man’s jokes because of his accent, but KZbin’s auto-translate makes up for it. Billy would laugh at his own jokes looking at the subtitles. Billy says ‘arsehole’, subtitle says ‘ahh soul’. Not sure who is better, Billy or AI? 😂

It was Billy Connolly at MSG. He was on Elton's US tour that year - he and Elton were good pals. He wrote it and it was on his 1976 album - Atlantic Bridge. I still have my vinyl copy.
