It's great for days without a lot of wind, but you'll definitely notice any turbulence. It only weighs 700 pounds so very easy to bounce around.

Hey Jason, how are these airplanes when flying off a grass strip ? Don’t know if you have but I live on a 2000 ft grass strip with wires on one end and want to make sure I can get it in and out of there. I seen a video that showed a landing and it said if you come in too fast the airplane will float forever. What are your thoughts on this ?
@jasonausman
@jasonausman Жыл бұрын
There were a few changes between the 2005 and my 2009, I'm not familiar with anything strange about the rudder pedals. Some earlier models didn't have brakes on the co-pilot side. You can definitely take off and land easily on a grass strip. In Europe where these are from, most people are landing them on grass without any problems. You'll honestly take off in 500-600 feet and clear those wires easily. They can definitely float for a while on landing, it seems like they fly forever in ground effect, but will still be fine with 2000 feet.

I see one of these on internet I think 2005 for $59,000 seems like a good deal. It seems like I chatted with you and others and someone mentioned something about the older ones had something strange with the rudder pedals ? Are these easy to take off and land, also I live on a 2000 ft grass strip. Do they do good on grass without messing up wheel pants. The one online seemed to have low hours but parachute needs repacked. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cool plane. I just got into planes and after looking at all the older planes out there I ran the numbers and these Rotax 912 based planes and they blow everything away in cost to run over the years compared to the older stuff. Being able to run Unleaded is a huge benefit in price and maintenance.

Crystal and I absolutely plan on making youtube videos of our adventures in N234YP! We have some grand dreams and plans for our adventures. We will do our best to document them! Stay tuned everybody! Thank you Larry. Nice hearing from you.

Can these be certified as IFR rated?
@jasonausman
@jasonausman 2 жыл бұрын
That is a tough question, I believe there is a way to get them certified. Many of them are IFR capable but not certified. Since this has a Garmin SL30 nav radio it is IFR capable, but I thought the light sport category is not certified for IMC flight. There are supposed to be some big changes coming to the light sport category in the next couple years, similar to Europe without the 1320lb weight limit, 118 speed limit, and other limitations.

Took my first flying lesson at Killeen airport when I was stationed at Ft Hood in the 1980’s. Without knowing your destination when I watched the video I had to say to myself that sure looks like Killeen but your radio call was for Skylark traffic which threw me off a bit. After doing some research I now know things have changed quite a bit there since I was there in the 80’s. I worked for Rio Airways for a couple of years after I got out of the Army at Killeen and Temple airport on the ramp and it was nice to get a glimpse of the area in your video.😁👍

That's awesome! We've enjoyed our time there. So I'm guessing GRK - Gray Army Airfield wasnt there when you were stationed at Fort Hood? That's the main commercial airport and Skylark field on the east edge of Killeen just has a couple flight schools and the old abandoned terminal now.

I was a helicopter crew chief in the 6th Air Cav Brigade and flew many missions out of Gray and of course Hood Army Airfield back when I was there in the 80’s. Things sure have changed a lot since then…lol” I have been enjoying your videos and love those Sting aircraft. I know a old guy here near me in California that posts videos “Sting Flight” on youtube for years now and really got to know about the Sting line of aircraft.

You got me subbed buddy! :) I would like to know how you check your engine gauges in the dark? I used to fly TL-96 quite some time ago and there was a digital display for all the engine instruments which was practically useless in the takeoff run. Great plane though.
@jasonausman
@jasonausman 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! My engine instruments show up at the top of my left side EFIS. They are color coded, white is good, yellow caution, red is bad. So I try to look at the colors and quickly read a few numbers on the takeoff roll. But I can see them fine on the display whether it's day or night.
