Building a bunker to survive a tornado makes sense. Seems useless to build a bunker to survive WW3 though. First issue can you get into it in time. The Federal Government is unlikely to let the General Public know of a Strategic Nuclear Strike is incoming. Second issue is how long can you stay in the bunker? There is a strong likelihood of Nuclear Winter lasting years. Killing off plants and animals alike. Soil and Water sources will be contaminated. So growing food is out of the question at least on the surface for sometime. Third issue what happens if you need medical care? Hospitals, and Pharmacies will be destroyed and the Doctors and Nurses will probably be dead. I think in the end the survivors will envy the dead.
