What if there was a Zelda game a bit like mario oddysey but it was open world in some places linear in others and 2D in some puzzles Also haha- I tried helping my dad play TOTK for the first time, since he only ever tried OOT and MM he said it was too confusing for him after dying to a pair of bokos in hebra I understand why now xd

They said the story for the two new games are at the end of all current timelines. They never said how far past the other games they are. The Hyrule of BOTW/TOTK could be the new Hyrule founded after Spirit Tracks. The Triforce thing does bother me though.

The lore disconnect has happened before way back before social media with the release of the fifth Zelda game Ocarina of time. Ocarina of time contradicted the history of the games that were released before it which made it to where it could not take place on the same branch of the chronology it wasn't until the release of the Four sword trilogy that we got a solid connection between the two chronologies. It will take time before a solid connection appears between Breath of the wild and Tears of the kingdom's chronology and the original chronology but the connection will appear.

This was a good chance to bring up Majora. Aside from being sealed in a mask at some point we know basically nothing about it. Majora could possibly have been an ancient demon and is obviously very powerful. Able to bring the entire moon down on termina, or possibly creating termina itself.

How could Hylia be the goddess of time, give up her divinity, still have control over deity powers of time. Doesn’t make as much sense as one would hope. Giving up her godhood wasn’t as selfless as either, Hylia wanted the power of the golden power. Shes certainly blessed by a goddess of time. I don’t agree with either of you until you can explain how Hylia can give up her divinity and retain the realm of time and all its powers.

this is inconclusive a lot of your evidence is around the temple of time in ocarina of time and a lot of it was misinformation the temple of time was not built where the temple of hylia was built this was misinformation from hyrule historia/encyclopedia as the maps show them to be at different locations zelda's lullaby was used to activate a lot of mechanisms connected to the royal family throughout the game the gate of time fits with that so using the song to redirect the gate of time does not mean that zelda has time powers skyward sword also had a temple of time separate from the temple of hylia you mentioned majora's mask and the power over time used in it but you failed to mention that time does not pass while inside the clock tower or the fact that the clock tower is also a temple themed around time also before anyone says that the goddess of time is nayru and that she reincarnated in oracle of ages there is no lore to backup the reincarnation claim and the only connection to time nayru has is that they created the laws that life would follow or something along those lines so again inconclusive this is a theory that you need to look more into fact check your evidence against more of the lore and search for more connections and revisit at a later time
@darkdagger5237

really this theory needed the localized a link to the past manual to have any chance of working well and the japanese manual lines up with whats said in later games and completely contradicts the points you were using from the localized manual so what you said was retcon was actually that the information that you thought was retconed was just localization flaws

The thing about this theory is that Skyward Sword is ending in a closed loop Young Impa got Zelda's Bracelett as a Gift from the Past and Old Impa had it the whole time since the beginning, which implies that everything including the Fight of Link against the fully resurected Demise has already happened for her, and in order for her to make sure that everything stays the same she needs to send Link to go on a journey to make sure everything ends up un the same moment. There is probably not really a split except the part with the Life Fruit Tree (this should be really questioned), but everything else ends up in a closed loop.
@darkdagger5237

it should only be questioned if link was from the present the reason its a closed loop is because link is from the future not the present impa is from the present she traveled to the future before anyone else did any time travel

While there are many problems with this idea here a few that really stand, out are as follows. 1) the whole notion that Link to the Pasts epilogue, and conclusion of ocarina (the adult timeline) just unermime Link. Ie) if they can seal him away withit him why is he really thst important? 2) Assuming Link dies fighting gannon, wouldnt he have just killzed zelda dn taken wisdom, so this never really added up in my mind. 3) If link wishes in the triforce how exactly does ganon get it again? And where did coursge go in zelda one? Back to link? 4) By throwing all the older games in there, doesnt it make i obvious a linear timeline, or set of wasnt really intended until st least windwaker? 5) Whose to say link couldnt have died or dissapeared after links awakening thid creating another "fall timeline". 6) Lastly if link cant exist in two timelines, when hes alive.... Why is it ganon can get to exist in both the child and adult timelines? This always seemed like a contradiction. Ill admit i couldve missing something here. 7) Doednt the fallen timine pretty much make ocsrins mote glib thannit is... As if to say no mstter what this Link dies. Either at the hanfs of ganon or th heros shade? 8) Overall it just promotos laziness, and ruins the idea of people drseing theor own conclusions.

I absolutely %100 agree with you When I saw the sword of the sky as a gimic collectible weapon in totk I rage quit and I’ve not picked up the game ever since, that one gimic destroyed all Zelda lore because if that sword exists even if it is a replica, if the hero of the skies even looked at that thing the master sword shouldn’t exist, it would literally be a paradox which makes me believe that totk might be a new parallel universe? When’re the time line bled artifacts from the previous games into the new universe but I hope Nintendo wouldn’t be that cheap. It ruins the connection and lore we had with the previous games.

I'm let down by the new puzzles (or obstacles). The new dungeons and puzzles are easy to solve due to thier multiple solutions. Some can be outright bypassed, and it just feels so unrewarding I can't help but think that the broad design and disposability of items is a measure to gain control of a heavily fluctuating progression system. The go anywere/do anything aspect kills character growth for me. I prefer to be limited and have to struggle to some degree, and I'm just not getting that when everything is accessible This is Zelda now, I guess. A lack of curation and titles that seperate themselves from their narratives. I'm happy for those that can enjoy these games, and at least I have old titles

In my perspective, Skyward Sword’s finale is a dragonbreak. It is evident by the death of the old woman, revealed to be Impa. She has the bracelet that Zelda gave Impa in the past and always had it.

OK OK So hear me out- What if the Master Sword wielded by the Hero of Winds is actually the Four Sword? LISTEN LISTEN HEAR ME OUT- Banditgames released a theory a couple years back about there being 2 Master swords due to the differences between the WW MS and the OOT master sword. In that video he makes the claim that the sages may have made a new blade- but what if it was just the Four Sword, reforged to be the MS we see in WW? This would explain how we still have the MS even though Link seemingly takes it with him in oot back to his childhood, as well as why it turns Ganondorf to stone. Turning him to stone was something I thought was weird, as we've only seen that done a few times- once in WW (as I mentioned), in Phantom hourglass, and once in the Minish Cap- Zelda, who was turned to stone by Vaati, a PICORI, using PICORI magic- the same magic that would've likely been imbued with PICORI magic? Eh? EH?! Now, do I think Nintendo will confirm this? No. Do I think they intended it? Lol, hell no. Does that stop me from thinking it's neat? Heck yeah, lol. (This could also explain the Goddess sword in totk- the Picori blade reverted even further, until it became the og sword and was left with the white sword of the sky)

I like this a lot. Yeah, if you think about it, in SS, we are to believe they defeat Demise in the past. Fine, but then if you were to remain there through the generations it would take to make it to SS’s present (where you crush the Imprisoned with the temple), there should be no Imprisoned there since it was defeated long ago. It makes perfect sense to have a split there!

In a lot of ways I dont feel the same you do about the connection being lost as ive only been a fan for 2 years and me as a person just cant relate to games as you and others can. To me something I would want in a Zelda game is something thats open world but half the size of botws map and then taking that half and rounding it out into a world that fits the tone of zelda 1/2 and alttp. I dont a mean a complete forest world like zelda 1/2 but I think both zelda 1/2 and alttp fit the dark fantasy vibe pretty well especially zelda 2 and so I would want to see a title that bridges into dark fantasy while maybe not completely crossing that bridge.

Very well written and and you do and excellent job telling us your concern with the future of Zelda games. I would hope that Nintendo doesn't forgo the classic Zelda formula that's proven to work time and time again. BOTW and TOTK are beautiful and an incredible addition to the series, no question about it. I'd like to think that the current design of Zelda games is what's selling and it's what people are currently craving from Zelda. It's something to mix it up and yet maintains that level of exploration that all the previous games had. Yes the new games are very different but at the same time their 100% faithful to the originals, there's still that "wow" feeling to them. It still feels like Zelda. Years from now when the current Zelda design has run it's course, Nintendo will boot up their old N64 to play some of the classics and take Zelda back to it's linear design and the people will eat it up.

Yeah, it's extremely disappointing as a long time fan that Tears seems to be directly ditching the entire concept of continuity even with the game it's supposed to be the direct sequel of which just goes to show, the devs have always focused on gameplay first, story second, continuity an afterthought. I always maintained that Aonuma intended BotW to be in the Downfall timeline but Nintendo was tired of all the debate because in their minds it was somehow distracting people from having fun with the game so that's why they came up with the bullshit explanation that BotW is so far in the future that it can be part of any timeline. Honestly, they should have just said it's a new rebooted continuity if they were gonna go that direction. TotK seems to go fully in that direction too.

I struggled to connect with the characters and their story in BOTW and TOTK. I wasn’t left with the satisfying heartache of a finished Zelda game that I usually get. There was no bittersweet feeling for me when I won the game but at the same time, aw man the game was over, bummer. It was a relief when they were finished. And I’m calling bullshit on it having good gameplay. The mechanics are good, but I consider game play to be a combination of gameplay and motivation and BOTW and TOTK just didn’t nail the motivation side of it. (Not to mention traveling through an open world that felt entirely too samey) I think this format could have been truly amazing had they fixed the issues with motivating the players. What’s the point of exploring if it’s something you’ve seen before just a slightly different location? Especially if it doesn’t have any emotional value. They didn’t need to copy and paste shrines, koroks, and vast meaningless collectibles. They could have developed the world more. More people needing different kinds of help/resources, good side character development is non-existent outside of the champions. They could have added more new monsters/people to the depths, what if they hadn’t limited the Zonai to the last two siblings? What if there was a group of survivors underground that could have acted as guides? If they’re planning on abandoning the old games (which I’m not sure they are) they’re going to need another source of emotional value outside of nostalgia. And the new games just did not have their own character. BOTW heavily leaned on Easter eggs to spur exploration and I think they tried to do the same in TOTK, but by not paying attention to the in game historical significance of the items, they’re cheapened and are no longer a strong source of intrinsic motivation for the player. Just another skin to collect.
