In this video that are using a flat head screwdriver to hold the shaft firm. But if it is a strap wrench your asking about, you can get that at Home Depot. Hope this helps!

Hello, I will be repainting my inground cemented pool soon but before I do I need to patch some areas due to previous bad patching and pressure wash to remove the loose paint. Do you recommend a certain pool patch material? And what type of muriatic acid did you use?
@PoolandspaTv
@PoolandspaTv 16 күн бұрын
You can use and brand of muriatic acid available at Home Depot type stores or hardware stores. Concerning patching, this video is Part 1 of a 3 Part video. If you go to Part 2, it's all about how to patch a plaster/cement pool. Here is that direct link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHyVl6eAosiDntUsi=VeVLF2FWecrOPlnF

How would you remove an impeller that is stripped? The shaft turns but the impeller doesn't turn. I can hold the shaft under the capacitor with my thumb and grab the impeller and spin it. The impeller won't spin off the shaft, it just turns and turns.

You would have to cut it off (like with a dremel). The threads are most likely stripped. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Just replaced the seal on my Hayward Ultra Pro. Your video was very helpful for the disassembly. My unit was a bit different when it came to the place where you hold the armature shaft when removing the impeller. There was a strange spring assembly and contacts over the screw. Once removed, I was amazed at how thin the impeller was. Mine was barely 1/4 inch! My pump is in pretty good condition so it came apart easy enough. No colourful language required LOL. Thanks for the help.

Hi Eugene. That all depends on how dirty the pool is. You can dilute it with water and give it a try (50-50 mix). If that doesn't work well on your pool surface, you can use it straight. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching :o)

Hi Matt! The E-Z Patch the guy is using in this video is specifically designed for patching and it has a bonding agent in it. Here is the description from their site - "E-Z Patch® 1 White Pool Plaster Repair is a plaster mixture specifically designed for above water (with water lowered) repairs. E-Z Patch® 1 White Plaster Repair matches the original surface of most white plaster, and the color may be tinted using any cement type dye. This product contains special modified materials with pozzolans (siliceous volcanic ash) and acrylic polymers (high in solids). After doing the repair, water may be refilled the next day. Liquid Bonder is included inside of kit. 10lb. jar covers up to 5 sqft." Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this! My pump works great but occasionally the impeller will stop causing the pump to trip the breaker. Is there a bearing on the impeller or something that could be bad that’s causing it to bind intermittently? The impeller spins freely and seems smooth to me, no blockages or debris in the impeller housing.
@PoolandspaTv
@PoolandspaTv Жыл бұрын
There are bearings in there that you can replace. That may help, but pumps don't usually bind up intermittently. I would check the capacitor. It may be weak, or on its' way out - and that could cause your breaker to trip. Hard to diagnose without having it on the bench to do some testing, but those are a few things you could check. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Any advice on what to do when the impeller which moves freely won't unscrew. I'm putting alot of leverage to unscrew and it just won't come off
@PoolandspaTv
@PoolandspaTv Жыл бұрын
Hard to say without being in front of it, but you may want to have a second person put the screwdriver in the back to make sure the shaft doesn't move. Then you can try to get it off (reverse thread) from the front. Sometimes you can try to spray a little WD40 where the impeller threads are, and this may assist you in loosening it. If all else fails you may have to cut it off (the impeller not the shaft). I have seen pumps that were corroded very badly and the thread part is pretty stuck on the shaft. If you have corrosion on the shaft by the impeller, you could try to bring the pump to a pump shop to do the repair. But at that point it may be time to replace it. Just a few thoughts that may be of help to you going forward. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

Good information. Glad the water table was obviously low and the pool didn't pop out of the ground. Note: keep the plug out of the main drain to relieve any hydro-static pressure from the ground water table. Also, do this job during the months with the least amount of rainfall to help avoid catastrophic pool popping out of the ground. Run a sump pump full time if ground water continually enters through unplugged pool to complete the job. Pray everyday and if you can't stomach the risk and can afford to hire a pro with insurance against popping, do so, so you can sleep at night. ( I have had a pool pop -out of the ground in FL during a paint job. I foolishly hired a non pro (kind description) that plugged the drain before a two day rain deluge, the pool popped. $$$$$ ouch!!!
@PoolandspaTv
@PoolandspaTv Жыл бұрын
This pool was in Southern Nevada on Sunrise Mountain, so there was no chance of sub-surface ground water. But for your pool in Florida, yes, you have to watch out for "popping out" due to high underground water tables. So for everyone in areas like Florida, definitely hire a pool professional who knows what he's doing anytime your pool needs a repair that requires the pool being totally drained out. Thanks for watching!

The back of the pump does not have that cover that comes right out with one screw. Mine has two holes in wich seem to have flat screws. But even if I unscrew these, the back does not pull out. I did not take the screws completely out not knowing if it is ok to do so. Can you help me in telling me exactly how to reach that switch. Thanks

As far as i know, you can take the screws out in order to access the interior parts. Keep in mind that the video shown here was made in 2011, and Hayward has changed their models quite a bit in the last decade. If you go to the Hayward site they have all the old manuals that you can see to find your specific pump. Here is that link - www.hayward-pool.com/shop/en/pools . Really appreciate your videos and instructions. I finished painting our pool last Thursday morning. Pool was able to cure for 2-1/2 days and then we got a little bit of rain. Shop vacuumed the bowl of the pool. The next three days we got more rain, not a huge amount, but enough to fill the bowl. We waited the three days until the rains stopped before vacuuming the bowl out again. Now the pool has been able to cure/dry for another three days. Is it safe to fill the pool tomorrow or do we need to wait longer? Please advise I would very much appreciate it or my family may mutiny!!! 😬😬😬

Normally paint should be left to dry/cure for about 5 days. Go into the pool and press on the paint in a few spots to make sure it has hardened, especially in the deep end / bowl area. If that has hardened, you should be good. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching our video!

There are several points in this vid that are questionable. First..DO clean the entire pool. That includes s the bowl. DON'T leave debris in the bottom of the pool. The first part of the pool to acid wash should be the deepest part of the bowl. Wash it then dilute the acid with water such that you have 6 inches or so of water. This will ensure the bottom of the pool is properly washed and that run off from the sides does not eat away at the bottom. Make sure the sprayer you buy is ALL plastic. Muriatic acid will tear up all metals including stainless steel so DON'T wash the bezels of your pool lights with acid. Take them down and protect the light's and niches from acid during the washing. Make sure you can pump the water and acid that collects from this process into a place it is safe to do so. The acid will eat up concrete, rust metals and kill plants.
