what software are you using that allowed you to edit photos from the apple photo album?

Let me just say that this stuff is frustrating. I’ve been frustrated for years. Why don’t they call it partial backup? - the whole use of the word backup is misleading when it is just a synchronization. Guess it backs up your settings but that’s it.
@Learnwithjoel20 сағат бұрын
Hi @BJ_PLATZ! I agree! It can be very misleading for sure. In the example of photos, if you delete a photo in Apple Photos, it goes to "Recently Deleted" and from there you can recover the deleted photo, but to me that's not a true backup because once a photo gets put in the Recently Deleted, it lives there for only 30 days before it's permanently deleted! When I exported unmodified originals, I noticed there was some extra files added in the folder I exported the photos to. I tried opening it but it was just some text. I think it said “aaa” something but I’m not sure. What is it and does it affect the photos if I delete it?
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Great question @shmaoo1790! That .aae file is typically associated if you've edited the photo before. You can safely delete it as it will not affect the exported photo at all. The purpose of that file is to hold the metadata/information about the edits of that photo if yo were to import it back into an Apple Photo Library. Curious, if I download Logic Pro can I then remove Garage Band and will iMovie allow me to use Logic’s sound library?
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Hi @bu9679! I'm pretty sure iMovie has a sound library within itself. It uses the iLife Sound library. GarageBand has a bunch of additional sounds to download, but it's usually more sounds for instruments. Also keep in mind even if you delete GarageBand, you can always re-install it. I do not own Logic Pro, however I do know that by having Final Cut Pro installed, it shows additional Final Cut Pro Sounds in iMovie, so maybe Logic Pro would do the same, but not 100% sure. The link below from Apple does allow you to do a free trial, so I would check it out if you haven't bought it already! @Learnwithjoel2 күн бұрын
Hi @kaat1705! Hope all is well in the Netherlands! Is this happening with an external drive that you formatted to have different volumes or partitions? If so, keep in mind that you often have to eject all volumes individually, or if you eject the top parent level, it will ask if you want to eject all of the volumes. I would double check they're all disconnected and unmounted in the Finder before unplugging everything. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! Out of the blue krijg ik deze melding soms.Is het beter om de volumes los te koppelen als je een tijdje niet werkt met de externe schijven? Zou dat het probleem zijn. @LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Hi @kaat1705! My personal recommendation is always to eject and unplug drives before I put the Mac to sleep. If I shut the Mac off, I'll wait till it's completely off and then unplug them. Are you using the cable that came with your LaCie drive? Does it feel like it fits well in your Mac or does it feel loose? What connection is it? Does this external drive only get used with your Mac? Did you format it when you first got it? Make sure it's formatted for Macs and not both Macs and windows if you only have a Mac. I do have another video about formatting that I'll link below for reference: Understanding how to FORMAT your NEW External Hard Drive for your MAC - A look at Apple Disk Utility kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZK8l42NrrNnebM Thanks!

What can I do to further protect my Apple ID if I keep getting text messages sending Apple account code
@Learnwithjoel2 күн бұрын
Hi @steve_2157! I would say that if you keep getting the 2-Factor Authentication codes to your device, that probably means that someone has your password. I would change it immediately! That's the beauty of Multi-Factor Authentication methods...it's sending you the code to your personal device to verify it's actually you. I'm just trying to save all my notes from iCloud... and I want to stop synching with iCloud. So annoying 😓 Seems like I can't do both. Smh
@Learnwithjoel2 күн бұрын
Hi @13elementbey, Notes can be a little tricky...Notes can either be stored in a iCloud, or other email account like Gmail if those accounts support Note syncing. There's no good way to mass export or get all of your notes out of the Notes app. Your best bet is to copy and paste each note into a different app, like word, pages, textedit, pretty much anything that is not in the cloud. Then if you were to toggle off Note syncing in your iCloud account and go back into notes, nothing would be there and the first note you create will be stored locally on that device, if that makes sense. So long story short, notes can either be saved locally only on the iPhone, or an in cloud email account like iCloud. If you turn off cloud, you will only have the option to create new notes locally. Hope that helps! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! Hi @stevenloomans3822! So iCloud Photos will often pause syncing after a few hours when syncing that amount of photos, so don't be alarmed if it syncing was just turned on and it's not the same yet. This begs the question: how come Apple defaults its libraries to the internal drive? Isn't there a way to select where a library is created from within the app?
@Learnwithjoel2 күн бұрын
Hi @alondania, I get what you mean. Usually the very first time iMovie is open, it will save it to the default to the internal location of the Movies folder. Any new libraries created after that, it will prompt you where you want to save it and you can choose to do an external location, so it's not on the internal drive. You can even easily move that first created library to an external as well. All of your libraries and projects can be stored externally. I hope that helps! Not really, it is an online storage! AKA remote data servers owned by companies. So do your homework my friend! Your statement contradicts syncing vs storage. To be honest, Apple should not get into providing storage data on a remote data center. iCloud is for clarity a remote storage or data center.
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Hi @juanhidalgo7043! It's been a while since that video came out and not sure what I said in the moment. Perhaps I was using an analogy or something. But yes, in the simplest of terms, Apple owns iCloud which is a cloud based solution. It stores information in the "Cloud", which is really just a on-prem computer data storage location someplace. With users data that is stored there, it then syncs to user devices. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! GREAT INTRODUCTORY VIDEO! , I'm in urgent need of help. I need I movie to work for me. It's crashed so many times.... I lost 3 weeks of work on a timeline that simply vanished before I had a chance to export it. Projects keep on disappearing and my thesis depends upon this. I will do fine-tuned editing in Final Cut, but I need iMovie to handle the initial mass of raw cuts and rushes. I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE OPTIONS YOU SEEM TO HAVE THERE!!! (mine is I Movie 10.4.2 in Sonoma 14.5) I do not have the option "show package contents" when I right-click on each library! Some crucial questions: 1- How can I move events, projects, clips from one event to another, and one library to another????? if I am working on a project (not project as defined in I Movie but my film project) for which I am using two libraries (a library with my original interviews, raw b roll etc and a second library for externally outsourced b roll and archival footage) , does it make sense to go to Finder and place both LIBRARIES into ONE FOLDER with the name of the topic i'm working on? And will my timelines events imovie projects etc get messed up if I move libraries (or events) around, or rename them, or move them from one external hard drive to another? I'd like to have full control as to where the clips (pictures and footage) go. I want to be able to move them between events, between libraries, and imovie projects. Also, I want to work directly with the material from the external hard drive, not storing the clips in my Mac at all. I do not want to really import any footage to the computer, because my computer has only 1 tb of storage, but only about 300 gb of it can be used. (Macbook pro M2) So, what. I am saying is, my libraries must all be in the external hard drive. When I import the clips from the external hard drive into a new library in I movie, how can i ensure I am actually creating that library in my external hard drive and not in my computer???? Thanks a million for any of these point you, or other kind users, might be able to clarify for me.
@Learnwithjoel2 күн бұрын
Hi @workinprogress11-11! So a couple things...I wouldn't even use iMovie if you have Final Cut Pro. It's far more powerful and so many more options! When you import files into iMovie, they have to be inside a library. You don't have a choice. I would also not recommend to move files around behind the scenes of an iMovie Library in the Package content folder. With Final Cut Pro, you can actually tell it to import the files into a Final Cut Pro library, or keep the files in a location of your preference. Like folders in the Finder on the internal drive or external drive. Final Cut is just so much better for organization for big projects. If you choose to use iMovie, just move/copy the iMovie libraries to the external drive and open from that location. Also once it's moved, just delete from the internal hard drive, but always make sure it's successfully on the external first. As far as using files from different libraries and different projects, you can have two libraries open in iMovie and just drag clips from with library into the same project. You could in theory have one iMovie library located on the internal drive and another one located on an external drive and use clips from both locations in one project. something to remember is that the project does save within the library, so you can't change that. Below is an apple support article that talks about moving and managing files. Apple Support for organizing iMovie media Files: support.apple.com/guide/imovie/organize-media-and-events-mov74d7d370c/10.4.1/mac/15.2 I hope that helps! I'm confused - you keep saying make sure your files are backed up. I thought the external drive is for back ups. Would you need a second external drive for backups only if you chose to set your computer up this way?
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Great question @quickstep2u! I guess it depends on how the external drive is being used. For example, I will keep temporary files on an external drive. Those files only live on that external drive, so if something were to happen to it, I would lose that data and it's not backed up anywhere else. The other option is to dedicate an external drive to be used as a backup with software like Time Machine. This makes an identical copy of everything on my Mac. This way if something happens to my Mac, or the files on it, I have a backup copy on the external drive using Time Machine. I have a video that talks about backing up and Time Machine that I'll link below for reference: BACKUP YOUR MAC! - IN-DEPTH look at Apple Time Machine and many ways to save and recover your files! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gonPZYShp9irfrM Thank you for your continued support. Hi @chanrott5416! Unfortunately once it's on, @Apple does allow users to turn it off. In the short term it may be annoying, but it in the long run, it makes everything way more secure! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! I lost my cellphone number for the recovery what can i do
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Hi @andreastephaniedolan7104, If you don't have another trusted device, you have attempted all password reset options, you will most likely need to get to the part where it goes into Apple Recovery. Other than that, there may not be a lot of options. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! Joel, I appreciate your video so much. I have been a mac guy for over 15 year and switched computers like six times and will you might imagen as I didn't know much about organizing photos. right now I have maybe four or five libraries and I believe many duplicate files. I think that I will most likely get the app and pay in order to make sure I can consolidate them all without the struggles and worries of having doubles. Thank you so much. I am wishing you and your family some amazing holidays as we are already so close by. -Jorge in Florida.

You're very welcome @locovidepro! Photo organization is always an ongoing project that seems to never end. Depending on what macOS you're on, Apple Photos now can import other libraries into one, but the 3rd party apps certainly have more control, especially if you have albums and such to worry about. I hope you have a wonderful holiday as well! Florida sounds a lot more fun that winter in Minnesota! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! I have a question, if I wanted to get a mini Mac, and wanted to use a t.v. as a monitor, what all would I need to do so?
@LearnwithjoelКүн бұрын
Hi @mauricenes5837! Mac Mini's are great and right now is a great time to buy one, as @Apple has just updated them! You could use your TV as a monitor as long as it has HDMI. Aside from an HDMI cable, you would need a mouse and keyboard to be connected to the Mac Mini. Other than that, you should be good to go! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! If this video has been helped you, I would be honored if you would consider sharing it with your social media network and expressing your gratitude for its assistance. Good explanation. I do have two Apple ID's because i live in Brazil. I can not access Apple News in Brazil. In order to access I need a US account. The problem is that I am not able to share my notes on iCloud between the iPhone (Brazilian Apple id) and iPad (US applied). Is there a way to sync the notes in this situation? Thank you.
@Learnwithjoel19 сағат бұрын
Hi @RenéVogelaar! Living in a different country can create some hurdles. Honestly I would use a Google account to sync your notes then. That will be able to sync to literally any device, and you can choose to only sync notes from that account and nothing else. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated! If this video has been helped you, I would be honored if you would consider sharing it with your social media network and expressing your gratitude for its assistance. Just a heads up, the reset option for someone else doesn't work with Androids. Or at least hasn't for me. Had 2 friends try this and the text message never arrives to my phone. Might be that it's sending via internal Apple messages.. So waiting on the umpteenth day to arrive to allegedly get a text from Apple, after owning the product for a week, so I can finally reset my password and my kid can start doing his homework on this thing instead of my computer. Yeah, doesn't bode well for purchasing another of their devices .. But whatever, they're not missing my couple of dollars anyhow.

@@Learnwithjoel On a positive note, after I got off "Apple Probation", they did indeed send me the reset text via regular SMS on the 6th day from submitting the request. It rerouted me to a slightly different reset page. I was able to reset my Apple ID password on my Android phone while on my commute home. When I got home it took some acclimating to the navigate the Ipad, but I finally got everything up and running (standard newbie mistakes and hoops aside). Take it easy...

If I use the option on my MacBook to download all my iCloud Photos content to the device, and then delete and disable (eventually loosing that content in the cloud) does the downloaded content maintain the meta date like, date/time, location and any of the caption or title detail I may have added while it was in iCloud?
@Learnwithjoel19 сағат бұрын
Hi @eddy802, Yes, all of the metadata and information should still be there even if you disable iCloud Photos for syncing after they're downloaded. Thank you Joel!! This will help me immensely! I'm getting ready to upgrade from Macos Ventura 13.4.1 to Sequoia 15.1 Will I be able to go back to Ventura if for some reason I don't like Sequoia using my TM backup? Thanks again, appreciate it. Great Job as always!!! 👍
@Learnwithjoel20 сағат бұрын
Hi @rapaent, So typically once you upgrade to a newer macOS, it's a little bit more challenging to revert it back without going through a recovery process and wiping the computer and kinda starting from scratch. There is a way to go into recovery mode and just install the macOS and not touch system files, but there's always room for error. Using Time Machine you would most likely have to wipe the computer to get it back to the previous macOS and then restore from Time Machine...kinda a pain. Change is always an opportunity for growth, especially when it comes to technology! Thank you so much for taking your time to watch this video. It is greatly appreciated!
