@Eddieboote13 күн бұрын
Check the spark plugs first, to focus on which carb. What kind of fuel you using? Premium or Supermarkt stuff and stay clear of E10. Has the car been laid up? Could be vanishing of the fuel in the jets. Is it heat related? Does it do this only when hot? Might be ignition related? HT leads or coil. Can be so many things. You have run through and tick off. Exhaust sounds like it’s leaking- re fuzzy sound at some point, but might be wind noise or your mic.
@SportsandGT13 күн бұрын
Thanks, yes all things I’m looking into. Plugs, leads, coil, lumenition etc have all be replaced earlier this year. Not just when hot but that seems to make it worse. Some of the noise is down to the mic, wind and road noise but it isn’t in the best of health carb-wise. Synch keeps unsynching!
@neildonaldsonlotusexcelresto13 күн бұрын
It does 'pop' quite a lot Stuart... Possibly running slightly rich?
@SportsandGT13 күн бұрын
Yes - I think it's the carb balance maybe. They're balanced and after a while they revert to one carb doing all the work and so it gets lumpy at low revs and unburnt fuel gets through. Wondering if the synch adjustment screw works loose.

Hi, just a thought, have you checked the voltage on the coil, I changed loads of bits on my 1981 S3 including the Ballast resistor to try and resolve a cutting out and starting issue when hot, on mine I always seemed to have to high a voltage for a ballast coil so ended up replacing with a non ballast coil and bypassed the resistor, I would be interested to see what were your findings, cheers Gary
@SportsandGT25 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes I had the wrong coil (unballasted) before plus a resistor which itself was old and crumbling. Now replaced with the correct pairing.
@garychapman749524 күн бұрын
@SportsandGT mine had the right coil (Ballast) with new resistor. But I didn't see any voltage drop and so took resistor out of the circuit and put a 12 volt coil (non ballast) and seemed to be better, my thinking was the coil was overheating with to much voltage and then better when cooled down because (Ballast resistor coils) runs on less voltage, hope you get to the bottom of it. Cheers Gary
