I see you recommended the 2006 onwards with the 3.5 v6 over the earlier 3.7 v6. Unfortunately,cat on engine choice I disagree! The 3.5 was plaqued with cam gear problems etc that could distroy an engine if not fixed - and this was very expensive. The earlier 3.7 m112 engine had none of these problems and is virtually bulletproof - one of the best MB v6 engines ever made, alongside the latter m113.
@SportsandGT25 күн бұрын
Others have also mentioned the problem - was it mostly an issue in the US? It was also solved within about a year as I checked my engine number and it was made after the fix.

There were quite a few cars in the paddock that were unusual, hence their reason for being there that you missed (or glossed over without realising their significance): The E39 M5 Touring, the E91 M3 Touring, the 1M S65 V8, all of which were never officially manufactured by BMW, so were built using genuine BMW M parts to make cars that their owners felt BMW should have produced. The E9 CSL - the car that is considered to have started BMW M division, the E46 M3 CSL (one of only 422 sold in the UK and one of only 297 left in the country). I do agree that it was disappointingly spread out and would have been nice to have grouped the marques together.

Reception of the 348 at launch was actually very good. The ‘poor reception’ everyone is echoing nowadays is down to a few reviews pointing out erratic behavior of the car at the limit (soon addressed in subsequent model years) and more importantly, new Ferrari CEO Di Montezemolo actively trying to destroy the 348’s reputation in favor of his new baby, the F355 - a pretty dick move, quite unprecedented in automotive history.

When modern supercars were something of a rarity out on the roads, they excited and interested me but thanks to finance they’re everywhere. Thanks for watching - and my friends at Bonhams Cars Online can probably help you on the scruffy old DBS!

How did this hold up over the winter? Need to sort something out similar for a classic car I've inherited (my garage is already taken up by my camper haha). Thanks :)
@SportsandGTАй бұрын
Yes, it did well. The instruction leaflet gave a warning about maximum winds of about 30kmh but speaking to the guy selling them at NEC he says they’re good for much higher gusts, particularly if guyed down (there are strengthened eyelets for this). We had a few storms one after the other and 80kmh gusts got me a bit worried. But all that happened is that the balloon rolled side to side and may have touched the car. The material is quite benign though so it wasn’t an issue. Fitting an LED lighting dimmer between transformer and fans allowed me to drop the fan speed to around 75% which reduced the noise and also made it give a bit more in high winds.

Hi and thanks for a great video. I am currently looking for a 560 SL from the late 80. I am interested in just gliding around. So I think 560 should fit. Not easy to find in Sweden where I live, so probably import it from Germany. What are your thougts about that car? Thanks
@SportsandGT2 ай бұрын
Thank you. I don’t think you will find many 560SLs this side of the Atlantic as it was primarily a North America export model - essentially a 500 V8 with a longer stroke to give the extra cc. You’ll find many more 500s, which would be just as good for European roads. As with all R107 models, check for rust in the footwells and bulkhead from blocked drains in front of the windscreen. It was a common issue that may have been sorted by the later variants. Good luck - they’re lovely looking classics and very popular.
