Late 80s... A game I saw at an arcade "Chase H.Q." 🚓🚔 PORSCHE 928 was the most active, and thanks to that, it was a plastic model that sold a lot at Tamiya. It was 1/20 size, not 1/24. 🚗 I remember starting the engine and taking off to catch criminals.. And when I pressed the turbo switch, it went incredibly fast. I remember hitting the criminals from behind until they gave up. By the way, I remember H.Q.'s "Nancy" voice was really good. 🥰🥰

I daily drove my Esprit 3 for a couple of years in the late 80's. It was "A" registered like yours but in Lotus Yellow with a Black & Grey cloth interior. Similar to the brochure car of the day. I always thought the Espsrit 3 was the sweet spot for mechanical simplicity and reasonable running costs. Despite a plethora or issues to include a head gasket replacement which brought about and tire upper engine overhaul, to 2 gear box repairs (was stuck in 2nd gear both times), this car cost far over 3x what I purchased it for to repair. BUT THE MEMORIES. All the attention whenever I went, the rev and handling as well as just the mystic of being part of a club everyone wanted to be in. You mention weekend car but would it be possible to use one of these as a daily ?, i only do about 3000 miles a year (i also ride bikes), don't mind the fuel consumption (my current Alfa daily only manages about 22 mpg), i'm a ex mechanic and MOT tester so would be doing the maintenance myself, only thing that scares me is the thrust bearing issue on the Autos, if i go for the 928 it would be my only car, budget would maybe be about 15K so was thinking S4 (though my favorite is the 928S) .
@SportsandGT15 күн бұрын
I don’t see why you couldn’t daily a 928, especially if you’re handy with the spanners. There are some manuals as well if an issue with the autos bothers you, I’m not a 928 owner but I know many who are and haven’t heard that problem mentioned. Check out @MrToddGibbs channel - he has a manual and an auto and knows more about any problem areas. Cheers.
@Markycarandbikestuff15 күн бұрын
@@SportsandGT Cheers for the advice and the link, read about that issue, it's do do with the way the torque tube and flex plate are set up, if not right the crank gets pulled or pushed and it wears out the thrust bearing in the engine, seen quite a few for sale with engine rebuilds at 80000 miles etc. Budget wont stretch to a manual sadly and strangely i think the Auto suits the car. Thanks for the link, will check that out.

Why did the Lotus engineers outfit the Esprit S3 with those unique air scoops/ducts behind the rear quarter windows? Why were they not supplied with the Turbo versions? ..do the Turbo versions have a window beneath those black louvers?
@SportsandGT15 күн бұрын
The turbo esprit has those air ducts too. They also have intakes in the side skirts. There is no glass under the louvred hatch, just the engine cover I believe.
@m.e.34515 күн бұрын
@@SportsandGT From Harry's Garage, he seems to indicate that there is a window underneath the slats of the Turbo. Apparently, the glass drains water away from the engine cover beneath, but still allows heat from the engine to vent through the hatch. He says "it's all slightly bizarre in here". 🙂
