The 928 was the first Porsche I was aware of as a child and it’s the only one I’ve really fancied owning. But which one?

Also to add, the 5 speed manual with first gear down and to the left was dope!!!😊❤😊

Dogleg box. The theory being of course that you spend most of the time in 2nd or higher so 1st can be out of the way. Thanks for watching.

Late 80s... A game I saw at an arcade "Chase H.Q." 🚓🚔 PORSCHE 928 was the most active, and thanks to that, it was a plastic model that sold a lot at Tamiya. It was 1/20 size, not 1/24. 🚗 I remember starting the engine and taking off to catch criminals.. And when I pressed the turbo switch, it went incredibly fast. I remember hitting the criminals from behind until they gave up. By the way, I remember H.Q.'s "Nancy" voice was really good. 🥰🥰

I’d completely forgotten about that game - I’m sure I played it once or twice too.

928 S2 and the original really stood out by design, no ugly big rear spoiler. Especially the beautiful rims on the original one are truly beautiful. For the interior you really need one from the S4 or later.
@SportsandGTАй бұрын
Yes the teledials are the wheels to have. I wonder if anyone has transplanted a later interior into a pre-facelift car?

I owned a 1984 Porsche 928S in 1994-1998 and it was glorious. Despite a plethora or issues to include a head gasket replacement which brought about and tire upper engine overhaul, to 2 gear box repairs (was stuck in 2nd gear both times), this car cost far over 3x what I purchased it for to repair. BUT THE MEMORIES. All the attention whenever I went, the rev and handling as well as just the mystic of being part of a club everyone wanted to be in. BTW: 928 International located in Atlanta or Augusta GA (the actual town escapes me) is the best place to find the parts to keep these breast in check. I HAVE STORIES OF OUR ADVENTURES!!! Real good ones.

I fell in love with the 928 seeing Risky Business. So i bought a 78 5 speed after looking for one for nearly 20 years. I LOVED the black one in Weird Science, but while i liked the S4 i wasnt crazy about any of the exterior trim. But by then i had some cash. So i ended up with the black car i always wanted with GT spoiler and mirrors and steering wheel and shift handle. Ive got GT heads on mine too. Ive never seen another one like it. I have been told a handful of people did it and its theoretically the best of both engines... I love both of my cars for very different reasons and entirely different types of driving.

Great job getting an early manual. It is often the way with cars - it’s hard to improve on the original styling but you’d like the better engines and more comfortable interiors.

I think the S2.5 - the 4.7 engine, with the uprated brakes from the S4. GTS is the ultimate iteration.
@SportsandGT22 күн бұрын
No bad choices. GTS is the ultimate but many favour the lighter GT.
@eoinosullivan263621 күн бұрын
@@SportsandGT I'm not sure how much lighter the manual-only GT is, compared to the GTS? I'm guessing the weight difference is the number of fitted options and manual vs auto trans axle? The Clubsport was designed to be lighter.

Great video thanks, I’m biased but for me it’s the last of the S2’s which had a lot of the S4 upgrades but original body style.

Yeah I can understand that. Most cars look better in their original styling. I’ve got an Esprit S3 which aside from a few tweaks is the same basic design as the S1.

@@SportsandGTfantastic car the Esprit S3! I got a Stevens Esprit Turbo SE. Not as pure as the S3 but the Porsche 964 of Lotus Esprit. Also lycky to own a 1979 manual 928. Did own a 89 GT but definetely like the early car more. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪

The S from 1985 onwards, with the 4-speed automatic; or a S4 from 1988 onwards. When the GTS came out it was already a bit old.

You mention weekend car but would it be possible to use one of these as a daily ?, i only do about 3000 miles a year (i also ride bikes), don't mind the fuel consumption (my current Alfa daily only manages about 22 mpg), i'm a ex mechanic and MOT tester so would be doing the maintenance myself, only thing that scares me is the thrust bearing issue on the Autos, if i go for the 928 it would be my only car, budget would maybe be about 15K so was thinking S4 (though my favorite is the 928S) .
@SportsandGT24 күн бұрын
I don’t see why you couldn’t daily a 928, especially if you’re handy with the spanners. There are some manuals as well if an issue with the autos bothers you, I’m not a 928 owner but I know many who are and haven’t heard that problem mentioned. Check out @MrToddGibbs channel - he has a manual and an auto and knows more about any problem areas. Cheers.
@Markycarandbikestuff24 күн бұрын
@@SportsandGT Cheers for the advice and the link, read about that issue, it's do do with the way the torque tube and flex plate are set up, if not right the crank gets pulled or pushed and it wears out the thrust bearing in the engine, seen quite a few for sale with engine rebuilds at 80000 miles etc. Budget wont stretch to a manual sadly and strangely i think the Auto suits the car. Thanks for the link, will check that out.

If you are going to get an earlier model, the 5 speed is awesome. Find a manual without a sunroof if you can find one. If you get an S4 get the automatic. You can't shift nearly as fast or as smooth.

@@SportsandGT Sorry old chap, but you're wrong. I have owned 2 928s (1990 S4 & 1993 GTS) and 2 911s (1992 964 & 1996 993) and if you look back at the list prices back in the 1990s the 928s were considerably more expensive than the 911s. Cheers from a damp and rather miserable Otford, Kent, UK.

Not true for me. I owned a 928 and despite it being a wonderful experience, I still am in need before I leave this blue marble to own a 911 turbo air cooled. That’s why 911 are still here and 928 is now defunct but despite it being discontinued, still a wonderful car.
