middle of January, 1969... week that Led Zep released their first LP and also the week (supposedly) when George Harrison packed up his guitar and said, "See you 'round the clubs, I guess..." to Paul and Ringo. And (most importantly?) the week we came down the chute.

I’m so thankful for Def Leppard and how they truly changed my life…I wish I could get a secret message out to them and Mutt Lange… I also want to say thank you to Phil for inspiring me to become my healthiest…I watch Hysteria and learn so much about that miraculous night, and I watch the scene when Phil and Steve crashes Joe’s car in the yard and Phil buys a very expensive watch and he just decides right then and there to stop any unhealthy habit, I love how he stuck to it and the entire band has shown us that we can start to rock…even at age 40…

So bizarre to think how little video exists of Randy Rhoads. Even as far back as the late 60s, video was used to promote music. And by the time Blizzard of Oz started up, Mtv was just being launched Aug 1981, so you figure they would want to take advantage of that opportunity. To think Sharon with all of her motivations and marketing mind wasnt capturing this new era in Ozzy’s life, and the rest of the band consequently, just baffles me. But on the other hand, maybe she was more concerned about not documenting Ozzy’s antics too. If you add it all up, theres actually more footage of Randy from his Quiet Riot days??! In a way it just makes the Randy Rhoads era all that more special.

the question is" Is Zakk lying at the behest of the Osbournes or he never pushed them for answers. We know there is video and audio. There is stuff the evil Empire sits on mostly out of spite for Bob Daisley, pulled the Southampton CD for the 30th anniversary celebration. The family sits with the video from Detroit and another one. the holy grail tapes with Bob, Randy, Lee and Ozzy are amazing by ear witness accounts. Bob put back up the snippets, 2 different songs, including I believe the first game they did that people equate to Riders on the Storm...

GW: What were Randy’s main influences? Rudy Sarzo: His influences were late-’60s, early-’70s English rock guitar players. He didn’t have any R&B influence or anything, so it’s totally English. And classical music because of his schooling. His mother had a lot to do with that, teaching him and influencing him with classical music. So by the time he got to England, he was not like a typical American guitar player who had had the influence of R&B music and country music, because he’d never played that. GW: Were there any particular players he admired? Rudy Sarzo: Yeah, let me tell you who they were. He really admired Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen. Those were the top two guys he really, really admired.

yet Rudy was asked what Randy thought of Ed, and he says and i have it on twitter that Randy did not spend time listening to other people. And others say he loved Ronson, West,....and he and Rudy spent a lot of time listening to Lee Ritenour on the bus after Randy and Tommy studied the tapes from the show. Randy was respectful of Eddie, complimented him, Ed of course being insecure about Randy did that horrible interview with Jas Obrecht. Randy did like Gary Moore a lot.

Under Contract Randy was going to play on the Black Sabbath "live" album ( the fact that he was very against in doing) than shoot a live footage concert leading after. Unfortunately as we all know Randy didnt live to see it and Brad Gillis is on the Sabbath "Speak of the Devil" album and the "Speak of the Devil" video concert, that was basically the regular Ozzy setlist of songs from the former tour, that consisted of Blizzard and Diary material with a few Sabbath numbers.

No joke, I remember reading an interview with Randy Rhoads at some point when he expressed an interest in doing other things, including getting more into synthesizers. RR was never really into Black Sabbath and cut his teeth on influences from other genres, glam, classical, he loved Mick Ronson and got into Be Bop Deluxe even.

@ I appreciate your curiosity, i was a nut about rock magazines back in the day and read it in an article. My brother is a big RR fan too so ill ask him and look into it to see if we cant dig that info up for you. I know Randy had much bigger aspirations as a professional musician
@trevornever27
@trevornever27 29 күн бұрын
@ my brother has made several road trips out to visit with Randy’s family and the Delores Rhoads music school. He has attended the anniversaries and memorials as well. I asked him where he recalls hearing Randy talk about exploring synths post Ozzy. He confirmed this to be fact but also can’t remember where or from who he learned this either. I know RR had aspirations to get his masters degree and wasnt so concerned with being a rock star. So it isnt too surprising that he would be interested in challenging himself to taking on another instrument like piano/keys/synths. He was truly a musician’s musician and loved the music more than anything. I even did an online search to see if it would pop up anywhere else from an old interview or speaking with former bandmates to no avail. I assure you I am not just pulling your leg though, because I remember how it struck me to hear of his synth interest because it was also another direction EVH took as VH progressed. As a kid I was like “WTH?! These are 2 of the best to ever do it on guitar and they want to screw around with synthesizers??” Which seemed kind of befuddling as a young metal/rock enthusiast. It felt like they were somehow going soft but as I matured it made more sense. So I wish I had the quick answer for you now, but maybe between my brother and I, one of us will come up with the original source. Or I can get my brother to email the family and ask one of them. Just dont want to bother them with something small ya know? But if the opportunity presents itself, then possibly. Its going to irk me until I figure it out though, so Ill keep at it too and let you know if I can jar it loose somehow. Maybe you will come across it first? Who knows? But if you do, please let me know too. Thanks

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle There is no access because it doesn't exist. There is no secret trove of tapes of Randy playing for hours on end, or videos of concerts. It's great because it keeps the mystery or rather the myth alive. I saw Randy play two months before he died. Was he great? Absolutely. Did I leave the show going, Oh my God, I just witnessed the greatest guitar player to ever exist? No, not even close. In fact, he didn't even come up in conversation on the drive home. Ozzy was the focus. Randy was just another axe slinger in a sea of axe slingers. Only well after died did he become a legend, and I personally like the myth to be shrouded in mystery. It's funny, but when he died two months later I didn't even hear about it, and if I had, I wouldn't have known who he was. Again, it was the 1980s. News consisted of three channels on the TV and a local newspaper, none of which would have covered the story, and I was in high school and didn't watch the news. Randy is my favorite guitar player, and I'm glad I got to see him. I'm also glad there isn't a bunch of stuff out there. I like the myth and the mystery.

@@DV8-q6n I do not get with your mindset. Of course there are videos and we all know it, eye witnesses. Holy grail tapes. And this is grown man's game now, there is no mystery to Randy Rhoads. There are so many bootlegs and pics, what is the mystery? people simply want to see how he played stuff. The mystery is not adding to his legacy it is hurting it the Osbournes are frauds and lowlifes, they do not care about his legacy or the fans. You are aware by 1981 he had won best new talent by Guitar pLayer and beaten Eddie in a reader's poll for Sounds magazine? You must not have read magazines then...plenty of coverage in music magazines, newspaper. For someone being your so called favorite guitarist you seem not to know a lot or not have been very observant. There are plenty of magazines that covered his death. Circus ,.Rolling Stone. You an alleged Randy Rhoads fan and Ozzy was the topic in the car., weird because I have seen many accounts from people who also saw Randy including Neil Carter and Rik Emmett, who called Blizzard of ozz one of the greatest bands he has ever seen live, and Ozzy was irrelevant to the equation. People talk about how they could not take their eyes of Randy up on stage the way he moved and played, felt like he was giving a personal guitar lesson. Your story is not adding up. But it does not need to.....good luck. When we get these videos released and the holy grail tapes, we know not to wake you up.

There have been recent rumblings and more & more rumors about how reportedly, there is pro shot Randy Rhoads footage exists shot by 6 video cameras that fans who were there have always claimed were blocking the view in front of the stage, at the concert the night after the After Hours TV show got filmed, of the Ozzy concert at Rochester NY show at Amphitheater Auditorium April 29th 1981, that was owned by Warner Brothers who filmed all the big shows at the Amphitheater, and the footage would be in Warner Brothers vault, if CBS could get with them to make a deal to release the film footage, it would go a long way to fill the huge gap to the utter lack of video footage featuring Randy Rhoads. & There have been more & more fuzzy video snippets of Randy with Ozzy live appearing on KZbin. There is also the rest of the pro recorded audio of from the Ozzy 1981 Southampton concert, that rare 3 song Live Ozzy EP show that entailed, that You Said it All, Mr. Crowley & Suicide Solution featuring Bob Daisley & Lee Kerslake. Certainly Zakk missed an opportunity to have asked Bob Daisley, back in the day, to hear his 8+ hours of Holy Grail rehearsal reference tapes, back when they were working on No Rest For The Wicked? The FM broadcast audio of the July 28, 1981 Montreal Ozzy show has always been the cleanest bootlegs outside of Bathead soup from Cleveland show which makes up most of The Tribute album. Plus the Randy Band Jam fusion solo that bootleggers started calling the man in the flying trapeze. Outside if Ozzy there is audio of the Quiet Riot reunion show Bootlegs of when Randy had fully leveled up & came home on break in 1981 after the Blizzard of Ozz album got recorded & played 3 sets with Quiet Riot at the Starwood & the Whiskey, which any true Randy Rhoads fans would appreciate…🎸

Zakk is parroting the lies the Osbournes want the world to know. Just did an interview with Andrew Klein, who worked on that ill fated documentary with Randy Rhoads, Last Train HOme, the promo video is still out there I just saw it. There are live videos out there, people have witnessed them I tweeted a video from the Detroit show of a person who deliberately obscured the video as not to get in trouble...but the family has confirmed Detroit show. Day on the Green was filmed, promo video for Mr Crowley was shot in some form Question: "Any confirmations or new discoveries of live concert (pro shot or not) video with Randy - dates and shows (we hear of more pro shot Diary shows from others).” Andrew Klein: As we know and have seen, there is the Chicago bootleg video that’s been circulating since the early 1990s. We’ve all seen what Sharon has released from NY and NM. There was a Diary concert shot in Phoenix, Arizona by two brothers and one of their friends. Three cameras were used. All three of them sat in the front row. They filmed the entire concert from three different angles. There is no audio. The tapes are video only. I have not personally seen the tapes, but I know people who have. I have spoken with the brothers many times while we were working on the documentary film. They are very protective of what they have. I don’t blame them for being guarded, but it is my wish that they will someday share what they have. It is precious and rare. The Diary show in Detroit, MI was filmed. It is also a bootleg but much better quality than the Chicago footage. Randy’s sister has confirmed that she has a copy. She said they will try and figure out the best way to share it publicly. I don’t have any additional information about it. Entertainment Tonight filmed two songs in their entirety; “Over the Mountain” and “Mr. Crowley.” It is perfect pro shot footage - looks like it was shot yesterday. It’s the best footage of Randy that I’m aware of. On the same day, another crew was brought in and they filmed “Crazy Train.” I have confirmed with the network that the Crazy Train tapes have been erased and recycled. All that remains are the few seconds that were shown on Bob Coburn’s show. The entire Blizzard concert at the Capitol Theater was filmed. Three cameras, shot in black and white. Every show in that theater was filmed from 1972-1984, including the Blizzard show. I have no idea where the tapes are or if they still exist. I believe that Day on the Green was filmed. I don’t know if the tapes still exist. Before the Blizzard album was released, an MTV-style promo video was made for "Mr. Crowley." Don Arden and the director had a falling out and the video wasn’t completed. I don’t know what became of the footage that was shot. The Southampton show with Bob and Lee was filmed. Max Norman was sitting in a mobile recording unit, in the parking lot, behind the arena, watching the camera feed onscreen. I don’t know where those tapes are. There may be stuff out there we don’t know about. But Randy has been gone nearly 43 years. You’d think we would have seen it by now. I know Sharon doesn’t have anything more. If she did, she would have released it.
