If I recall correctly, Transylvania for TM:HO wasn't DLC for the PSP release, but rather it was scrapped and then brought back for the PS2 release. Proof of this was that the theme itself was found in an early build of the PSP release when the game was under Twisted Metal: Rage

Here's a fun fact: Crimson Fury is a different design between the PSP and the PS2 Version of TM: Head-On. Also, there was originally going to be 7 opponents to choose from in the PS2 version, but that idea was scrapped and dropped it to 5 opponents. I question that call especially since there are 7 opponents in the Tower Tooth challenge. LuisParsons has a video on that, but that was from a Action Replay code or something.

Also the Spolier was removed from Spectre in PS2 version. (Probably cuz of split-screen)

Changing the final boss theme is the only thing that I hated in the PS2 version. Why did they pick like a hillbilly theme for Dark Tooth and Tower Tooth? lol

I haven't played the PSP version since 2005 but i have the PS2 version & i enjoy it. PSP version may be better but im fine with the PS2 version. Besides this game was built to be "pick up & play for a little bit then stop" not meant for longer play sessions like the other TM games.

Great video, I was wondering if those rumors were true or not. Thanks for settling that. Just to let you know though, the cutscene completely stopping thing is an emulation bug. I play the ps2 version on a physical ps2 and that issue doesn't happen to me.

Personally I prefer the Ps2 version for controls and the extra levels. But I played more of the PSP one since that’s the one I had first and cause I’d play it in the car or at family’s houses since portability

Speaking of PSP games that got different reception on home consoles, something kinda similar happened with Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. When it was released on PSP it was praised for being basically Kingdom Hearts on the go, bringing the same kind of Disney JRPG goodness from the PS2 on the go, with the same kind of story, characters, graphics, gameplay elements, Disney worlds, Square Enix cameos, etc. However, when it was given an HD remaster and released on the PS3 and later on the PS4, a lot of people noticed that it was obviously made with handheld consoles in and it didn't help that it was re-released on the same disk as Kingdom Hearts 2, which is basically day and night when it comes to gameplay, content and structure. Although I said "kinda" because unlike games like Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters even when it was first released it was obviously a different kind of game made within the limitations of the PSP so it was still judged on its own merits and even today it's still considered a very good game and a fan favorite for a lot of KH fans. Hell, it's my personal favorite game of all-time (and I 100% it on my PSP) and yet even I have to admit it felt a bit awkward at first when I replayed it on PS3... still 100% that one too though.

Your previous video on head on hit the nail on the head TBP. It was the first twisted metal game I’ve played. I never realized how easy it was until I played black. I managed to put head on on my phone. I’ve played it for a good week. Then I got tired of it. I still play it for a level or two when I need to kill time. But in conclusion, your points where HEAD ON (dad joke) on the game.

Just to give you some egoic/psychological reinforcement validation: That tangent you went on around 10:50 or so about being a kid, playing games like CTR (which I also enjoyed then, hah) and irrationally entertaining the thought that perhaps I actually _was_ connected somehow to others and that's why sometimes the AI would bizarrely scum me out or something. Not an anecdote you'd really get to share (or remember) often, but do know you aren't alone in having weird vidya thoughts in the past! 🍻

It's having to also hit the fire button that makes it an issue. Having four inputs instead of three adds an extra split second that you need.

Something I don't think you took into consideration is the fact the PS2 also has the "Lost" content. I think that goes a bit to explaining why the PS2 is a bit lighter in the game feel. Since it has to share the engine to do the Harbor City stuff, I think they tuned Head On so that extra content would feel right and not be a big deal to Head on. Along with also lowering Time to Kill to be more in line with Black.

Side note: I know this is just emulator issues only, but I'm surprised that you didn't bring up a notable sound error on the psp version if you don't have the right settings. Like right after doing a single match the sound effects aside from special weapons all cuts out for some reason, and you need to do something about the disc loading options I think to solve it.
@UrFavoriteZombie3 сағат бұрын
Nah I think Transylvania was actually a scrapped level for the PSP that made it into the PS2 version Other than that, nice video
@thejedisonic679 сағат бұрын
While the idea of PS2 ports of PSP games often being worse sounds like an absurd idea, it happened more often than you think (and sitting down to think about it, it makes sense in most scenarios). GTA Liberty City Stories infamously has prominent performance issues on the PS2 that wasn't there in the PSP original as an example. The reason I think PS2 ports of PSP games are often lesser experiences is because they're all relatively in the late lifespan of the ps2 anyways, so the head studios had the productions rushed because the PS2 was already in the late stage of phasing out, even if it was a slow burn.

I'm curious - what did you use for controls? Because I think the opinions different if you're actually using a psp vs a DualShock. Using them both on, say, a PS3 emulating psp + ps2 is different... Also about the cutscene glitches - are you using original hardware? EDIT: I'm still curious about the controls but I've confirmed myself that the discs on the ps2 were an issue. I'm still curious about how you played these though.

Interesting about the games that started on psp ending up on ps2, I can’t speak for every one of them, but I can speak of motorstorm “well, in this case from the first 2 games being on ps3, whereas artic edge was on ps2 and psp, I own the psp version” it did feel more looser in terms controls, but I did get used to them, granted it may not be as tight as the ps3 controls, but i had a good time with artic edge on psp “even to the resort of driving in oppose to holding the L button, I honestly use the X button, as I felt it was much more comfortable for me, maybe I am in the minority here, but if some aspects work better on the psp or ps2, I guess it’s either a matter of preference? 😶

I lost my PSP in a Costco when I was 13 and never got another one so the ps2 is all i know and it didnt feel like a bad port i didn't even realize it was a port. But I also still play TM 2-4/small brawl on my PS3 with no complaints ( haven't found a copy of TM 1 yet). Dropped frames poor textures visual glitches it's just a part of the charm of these older console games have that get removed the second when PC players get a hold of it. Then they have the audacity to complain about unforeseen bugs and glitches like dumbass IT WAS NEVER INTENDED TO BE PLAYED AT 8K WITH 9,000 FPS. I just can't do PC games especially first person shooters. Y'all have the fov so zoomed out seeing your own arm just cease to exist and full weapon model is distracting and OMFG the sensitivity is just too much. I get motion sickness. I also really really enjoy Brink. It's in my PS3 RN I played it last night. It's like a offline TDM cod with parkour. I don't have any other systems so I have fun with what I got but even as a kid with a 360 I didn't have Live so I enjoyed it the same way even then. Like skate 2 and 3 I also really enjoy it's great shut your brain off after work and just play a game with absolutely zero frustration.
