If you're recommending to plant a cover crop over winter to encourage mychorrizal growth, do you then plant directly into the cover crop? Also, are there any edible/gourmet mushrooms which can benefit or compliment ecto or endomycorrhizae?

Entomologist Dr. Gail Langellotto of Oregon State University has a more recent study that concurred with the data in this study. In short, species specific native pollinators largely rejected most cultivars. Adding true regional natives to our gardens is absolutely the way forward.

I watched with fascination because upon viewing the subject, topic, I quickly related it to my field of interest, Aquariums. Natural aquariums possess a substrate. Are there any data on the correlation with the two subjects that you know of?

You do know invasives are both native and exotic? Plant cultivar, bred blueberries and native Vaccinium species. The wildlife are not dumb. They will pick the cultivars to eat every single time because they are larger, sweeter, less bitter, and most tasty! Try it I dare you.

Thank you Cole! You graced us at our Master Gardeners seminar today in Baxter County Arkansas and I was wanting to see more of your videos. I have to say you are the same in person as on film. A very big thank you for visiting our small town and sharing your gardening advice- you were my favorite speakers of the bunch as I know or have seen the other speakers, and for your knowledge of native plants. Thanks again and Happy Gardening

I started a couple coral honeysuckle plants from seeds I collected in the woods of east Texas (farther west than Alabama). One plant was evergreen in our SC winters; the other was deciduous.

I'm eating the fruit right now we got from a flea market in/near Savannah GA :) The flesh is dark purple with red juice so it looks like a murder scene, but tastes good. I'm definitelly gonna grow some of the seeds!

I collected soil under mesquites in our yard, and in the closest forest, i put commercial michoriza on sprouted oat seeds and added cupfuls around each of my 120 fig trees that are heavily mulched. I added local mushroom spoors and have added winecap mushroom spawn around each tree. I have noticed a lot of dog vomit mold when we've had rain. I think all must be good.

Excited to hear about all the pollinator action on this plant. I have many wee seedlings that need a home in the garden and the internet is suggesting spacing of 3-4' - I feel like this will be much too far apart? What would you recommend, and how long do you find that it takes to fill in?
@EcoBeneficialVideos
@EcoBeneficialVideos Жыл бұрын
If you have very small seedlings, I suggest growing them out in pots until fall or next spring before planting in the garden. I like to space plants so they can achieve almost mature width. Allowing plants to touch each other creates a beneficial matrix above and below ground and helps to suppress weeds.

@@EcoBeneficialVideos thank you so much for the quick reply. Very good suggestions. Perhaps I'll repot them to thin them out a bit. I had a great sowing, but they're definitely crowded and will be competing for resources if they get any bigger! I will definitely plant a bit closer too - I like a full garden for the reasons you mention and the look and feel too. Thanks again! 💚

6+ years later, but, two things missing from this presentation: trees and shrubs. Gardeners seem to focus on "wildflowers" and neglect the importance of trees and shrubs for beneficial insects.

Purple haze seems to attract a lot too. Moths at night!! I try to get at least one of every cultivar that comes to the garden center but I've noticed orange ones like Tango aren't hardy at least not here in South Jersey. I also planted a couple yellows that didn't come back not sure of the cultivar name

With lupins I'm sure lots cross pollinate .the worry is the native wildflowers to our areas have two really big concerns.. because if the true species are cross pollinating with introducing non natives ie Russel Lupin with our native lupin. We loose our native breed then to that area if seeds..which I'm assuming they will.

Ok so im already sure of this but...i bought ten of proven winners winterberry goblin red "male"(they all had that label)but they are loaded with berries and i bought one proven winners mr. Poppins that had no berries. Im assuming the goblin red male is mislabled. But if anything, is it possible that a male plant can revert back to a female plant? Oh and they say that all proven winners winterberry male and female plants are compatible with each other.
