I have a number of South African friends in Panama. I understand for some countries Panama had more relaxed visa standards. After dealing with the corruption in some parts of Africa, Colombia is very manageable and Panama is a cake.

@GringoCampe sino82 Enjoyed both your videos on comparisons between Colombia and Panama. I am an elderly South African and live alone (with dogs) in a rural part of Panama. I can attest to your comments in first video about the people, cops, etc. And about the snarky gringos 😂!! Not been to Colombia (am on a very tight budget, thanks to SA exchange rate) so good to see it vicariously through your eyes. Gracias.

Great topic. Having lived in Panama since May 2018 and living in Chitre Herrera as well as San Carlos and Bejuco Panama Oeste I can confidently vouch for what you're saying about the tranquil and crime free life living in Panama. Yes a few sketchy neighborhoods in Panama City and San Miguelito which I still confidently walked around at night alone, maybe a bit more vigilant but absolutely with a safe feeling. Now living in Colombia for only a few months after making 3 prior trips I choose to live in Barranquilla Atlantico and will be opening a service business later this year in Cartagena. I have felt safe where I'm at in a Strata 2 neighborhood that I live among Colombiano and really have tried to stay away from the Tourist or other Expat Gringo neighborhoods similar to the way I lived in Panama. I agree that Panama was an amazing choice and loved living there and I will continue to visit as I have made many local friends there, but I made the choice to move to Colombia because of the lower cost of living and better economic opportunity for right now to do business. In both Countries I found the people to be wonderful and the quality of life much better then where I was living in the United States.

@@ChrisJulyAdventures I understand. A friend just moved from Miami to Barranquilla and he loves it. My wife was born in Barranquilla, and even though it's safer these days, she still has memories of being an unsafe city. I've never been there, but we will go to visit her family next year and then we will see. Sounds like a great plan that you have, close to the airport, the beach, Cartagena, and Santa Marta, and not too expensive. Enjoy!

In my view, Panama or Columbia is not a good destination for a normal young man to move to. You cannot make the kind of money that you need down here. You need to be retired with a military or law enforcement pension if you want to come down here at a young age. Or, just be independently wealthy. I moved to Panama in 2010 at aged 52. I am a prison correctional officer who received a small but very early pension. I was able to move to Panama on practically no money thanx to this tiny pension. You shouldn't come down if you don't have at least a small pension. Ideally a military pension. Then you have to learn to make due. Its not really that cheap down here. Prices have gone up. Its better than in the US I do believe. But not easy.

It is a great question. I actually did some research (informal) before deciding which part of Colombia I wanted to live. In this region I personally have not had any problems. I was told by older folks here in the area that Quindio in general never had a "vacuna" problem. (That is mafia like protection payments.) As I understand there were problems like this further north, closer to Medellin. I have heard that the gorilla groups in my area would hassle farm owners who they thought didn't pay the workers well. I think the idea being they would get the working class on their side.

I like the people of Manizales, I don't have anything bad to say about it but you need to make sure the weather is good for you. Its colder and wetter than many parts of Colombia. As far as kids, I don't have any but my ex GF was a teacher and we talked about raising kids here a few times. Her belief as an educator in Panama was to have your kids socialize and go to school here but make sure to expand their horizons with studies outside of school as well. Depending on the school there will be some things the kids miss out on.

I have been to Columbia several times. I am retired and live in Panama. I am not a farmer. I live in the country side about 5 hours away from Panama City in Las Santos province. I live on a small pension. Yes, there is culture shock and lack of infrastructure so it is not as convenient to live. However, had I stayed in the US I could not afford to live and might even be homeless. At the very least it is safe and the weather is good here in Panama. I cannot complain. The cost of living has doubled since I first arrived. You have to adapt and over come and learn to make due with what you have.

Ethan el Gringo tells ground truth like it is. Currently, live Panama and will piggyback that several expats who started CR moved to PA because its cheaper to live and less pressure from tourism with as much natural beauty as CR. 1st world new to expat will face culture shocks. Ethan hits the big ones. EVERYTHING takes 3X times to get right - deal. EVERYTHING comes by boat - not everything is avail until the next ship. Ladies bring your own makeup BRANDS with you. They are avail in PA, just not of equal quality. Pack 5 swimsuits the UV will eat them up so buy cheapos. Leave coats and Levi’s…so touristo - unless Boquete destined. Brush up on Spanish it’ll win friends when you need one. ONLY go finca (farm-style) if fluent, living ala Ethan among natives in the “adobes”. As Ethan explained its wild outside the city and towns. BIG difference between PA and CO is you must know to whom you are talking to in Colombia. Panama not a problem. Driving is Tijuana-style dangerous. PA is a small, a one road pais and the few who have money drive like they own the road too. Ones who don’t have money are more dangerous, unpredictable and inexperienced. Buy a car - don’t import yours.

Good morning, I'm new to your channel. I've seen some of your other videos. Curious if you sell coffee beans already packed? Will be in Colombia starting June 3rd and would like to buy some to take home (USA). I'll be in the coffee region for about a week. In regards to this video, in my opinion, being different is not being weird. It is what makes each one of us who we are. Similar to fingerprints. Anyways, at the end of the day, all that matters is you are happy, healthy, and enjoying life.

Point taken. I was using weird as a synonym for different but I don't think its bad in any way. I have harvested most of my coffee, I am rehabbing my farm so I don't have top quality coffee yet, but if you want dry green coffee we can work something out. If you want it roasted there are lots of options also, but I don't have a roaster on the farm. lil point of clarification. kinda like the US has huge differences from state to state here in Colombia is the same from Deprtment to Department (our territorial division is not federal but centralist therefore no states, divissions are called Departments). for example Cauca department is a no go zone for Gringos and even for us. Boyacá Department is by far one of the best to make a living farming. understanding the fact that Colombia is not federal will get you an edge here, for example Police forces are national so a police officer is a cop all over the country but jurisdition applies when talking about Metro police officers (a cop from Bogotá Metro has jurisdiction in Bogotá but in order to do so in Cali he will have to go through the relocation process). another example is Law, laws are national and we have no state/department laws, so you can actually expedite a process basically anywhere (not as easy as it sounds but yes, judges have authority all over the country.) if you really wanna buy land and be here you will be welcome to do so but PLEASE be smart. Yes your Dollars will worth far more here reason why you will think something is cheap but it really isnt, so you spending like this is the US will hurt locals a lot by gentrification, just pay as much for something as a Colombian will, more money for you and we will be ok.

@@mariagonzales2833 Es que los suelos de Colombia son tan ricos que los mexicanos son los que sacan todo el producto para distribuirlo al mundo, ya que sus tierras no son tan fértiles. I heard you bro... I'm colombian and migrated to the estates 35 years ago with my whole family, specifically to Seattle. Even though was so hard for us to adapt for the culture shock and the language, with time we learned to love it. Seattle was beautiful. Well, still is but the amount of migration now a days is not even a shadow of what it was. Besides being a blue state, politicians are ruining everything. As colombian, I learned to love this place, my community, my job. Nevertheless, I would love migration to be controlled but I don't have much of a word on that since I am a migrant myself; and my family. We as humans would love to control our environment in our favor. Unfortunately it is impossible. It is funny you say you don't want expats near you and still you offering help to get there.. Ha!! There is not a perfect place in the world, but can live beautifully in Colombia compared to other places in the world. Good day.
