I know that research shows that the bigger candidates have more success but what if someone was 5’8 150 yet they reached or even exceeded the strength standards?

Really helpful, great information. ...as for 20 years ago... People were really...difficult. But... You could see the future coming.

Just be able to walk an entire 12 miles in 3 hours with no running and you will be fine

And remember you have to carry that weight, so easy on the bulk.

A few extra tips, particularly for SFAS: - dont ruck in new boots. Break them in first. - identify and pay attention to the hotspots on your feet (the parts that rub/blister/hurt) and get a bunch of moleskin. Cut the moleskin to fit those hotspots and bring plenty of those pieces already cut to size for your feet. - get Glide or something similar for the areas of your body that chafe. Maybe it's between your thighs, your butt, ankles, etc. You will really want this. - practice your momentum and energy usage. Push harder uphill and more comfortably on level ground. Going downhill, lean forward and let momentum take you down, using your legs to catch you so youre using far less energy and letting your legs rest a bit more. - make sure your load is secured exactly where it needs to be and pay attention bc it can move slightly over the course of miles. By the time you notice, you may be in more pain than necessary. - hydrate with electrolytes. Potassium, sodium, etc. Even just add a hit of salt to your water.

The funny thing is that back in the day when all this "Kick in the dick" fitness criteria for selection to elite units was born, being 211lbs was a "fat body" and needed a waiver. Which was tough to get from the Marines. 170-190lbs was the average. Once in, the sky was and still is the limit.

A yes the rucks, i remember doing them all the "High speeds" wanted to go first and some ran, others like me, we did it at platoon level pace, not only we caught up to the ones running but we passed most of them because by mile 8 they had foot problems, their packs shifted others were too tired and the drill Sargent was mad at us because we passed them all full of energy and in a formation with out guidon high. We paid for it 3 days later after everything was set and done with a smoke session, drill said "Why didn't you guys stop and help?" And like always someone just yelled out, "Cause they choose to go ahead on their own, and be individuals" we paid for it for what felt like an eternity afterwards.

I basically ran/jogged every ruck since I'm 5'7, bow legged, and there was always some 7 foot long stride dick head leading the march. Had tendonitis flare ups for years after getting out.

So what does that mean?

You mean don’t train your legs? I like working as much if not more than the next guy but when I have a 32k hike or 12 mile ruck I typically don’t work out 4-5 days prior just so my muscles don’t cramp or give out. Unless you mean in a general amount of time to get your legs at least strong enough to withstand loads like that then yeah I agree, but then again… I’ve seen naturally big and tall motherf***ers that weigh 250 fall out and scrawny small guys who don’t workout lead the way all the time. So if you ask me it’s just a mindset.

Rucking whooped my ass in boot camp. I wish I had a video like this before boot camp, but in those days youtube didn't exist.

Lol what? 😂😂 Most guys I've seen who bench a lot suck at push ups, while those who do a lot of push ups don't struggle with bench.
