Distrokid is such a trap. It seems cheaper at 1st, but if you do more digging you realize how expensive it is overall because you're too busy paying for extras that you actually need.

What currency does Landr pay out in? I was using Amuse and they pay out in AUD so I was losing. If Landr pays out in USD then it sounds like the best way to go.

Hey so I've been looking into Landr over the last couple of days since I want to start finallly putting my music out there. I really loved your breakdown of their pricing vs Distrokid, But something that's extremely important to me is that my music is safe to use/listen to on both youtube and Livestreams for gamers and video editors. Do you know if Landr has any way to release "Safe to play/Safe to stream" music?
@IAMLXGEND2 күн бұрын
I mean, it would be safe for them if you did release through LANDR in terms of copyright. LANDR doesn’t issue copyright claims. Just Content ID claims. So those streamers or KZbinrs just wouldn’t be able to earn ad sense. Otherwise, I’m not sure there is a way to white list a song. I haven’t looked into that. May be a question for their customer service.

@IAMLXGEND appreciate the info. Yeah I want them to be able to keep their money, especially if they're already crediting my music. Thanks for the quick response! Subscribed o7

@IAMLXGEND2 күн бұрын
By law, Your original work is copyrighted the moment you create it. If you want to register the copyright then you would do that at copyright.gov In terms of publishing, do you mean distributing your work or publishing itself? There are some distributors out there who do both.

Doesn't the mechanical license collect on your behalf as well? Ie ... 15$ & LANDR
@IAMLXGEND3 күн бұрын
LANDR does not collect mechanical royalties. What you’re referring to is LANDR’s $15 cover song charge. They provide you with a mechanical license so you can distribute a cover song for $15.

I'm a little late, but I have a question about something in LANDR's ToS that I was wondering if you knew what it meant. In the terms it says under "Universal Products Codes and International Standard Recording Codes" quote, "We may provide universal product codes (UPC) or International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC) for your Recordings. These codes are provided to you personally, and you cannot transfer them to someone else." Do you know if this means that I can't change to a different distributor and reuse the ISRC of a track I've already released through LANDR? I'm just starting to enter into the world of music distribution and I'm sort of looking for a decently priced distributor that allows be to back out of with little to no consequences. I've narrowed it down to either LANDR or Distrokid, but I'm not entirely sure. Do you have any advice for someone who's new to the music industry?
@IAMLXGEND5 күн бұрын
It just means you can’t transfer the code to someone else aka another artist. It’s not to do with distributors. You can back out whenever you want. But beware of distrokid. Here’s a recent video I made comparing the 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3qVhYyVl6alfKssi=kUp6xugIWKnHkEm1
@jacobdoylemusic5 күн бұрын
@@IAMLXGEND I've actually seen your video and was ready to go with LANDR because of it, but that one thing about the ISRC in the terms was not clear enough for me to feel comfortable agreeing to it. So thanks so much for the reply! Is this your opinion or has LANDR itself clarified with you?
@IAMLXGEND5 күн бұрын
It’s not an opinion. You just quoted it there lol. “We may provide universal product codes for your recordings. These codes are provided to you personally and *you cannot transfer them to someone else*”. Distrokid is going to provide you the same exact codes for the same exact reasons. The whole point of a UPC or ISRC is to track sales / streams of an individual song or album. They are not transferable because that would defeat the purpose of the tracking. The point of having these codes is so that in the event you do go to another distributor and end up releasing the song under another project, then that code is still there for that song to be able to continue to track its sales. It wouldn’t make sense to assign this code to a song and for you to not be able to take it elsewhere in the event you switched distributors because it’s needed to monitor how many sales that specific song or album has done over its course. They ask for these codes at the time of uploading the song when you’re distributing to make sure they aren’t making a second code for a song that already exists. It wouldn’t matter if you go with Distrokid, LANDR, CD Baby, or any other distribution company. You’re not able to transfer these codes regardless because they’re unique identifiers of that specific project meant to tally the sales of that particular project across all platforms. You wouldn’t be able to transfer them to anyone either way. The rules would all remain the same.
@jacobdoylemusic5 күн бұрын
@@IAMLXGEND ok. I was just worried that they would force you to replace the ISRC (basically make you start over) if you wanted to switch to a different distributor; they weren't clear who "someone else" was/could be. Sorry if I came off as rude. Thanks for the help! 😁

Music production just got really easy? Then what's the f***ing point? How about mountaineering just got really easy. Our mountaineering assistant will helicopter you to the summit with absolutely no climbing experience needed! FFS.
@IAMLXGEND5 күн бұрын
The point is it shouldn’t HAVE to be hard to turn your ideas into actualities. As someone who’s been making music for 25 years I dont see any issue or downside whatsoever in making the process of ideation to execution easier. Why the fuck would I WANT for it to be HARDER for me to create my songs? Isnt the whole point to be able to express myself exactly how I desire through my music with the least amount of hardship and bumps in the road? Your comparison is very dumb. It’s like saying “performing brain surgery SHOULD be harder! That way we can save LESS lives!” The purpose of becoming a brain surgeon is to save lives. If a tool became readily available that made brain surgery incredibly easy, how STUPID would it be to say “no, I don’t want that. Making lifesaving easy? What a dumb idea. We need to make it harder!” These takes are incredibly dumb. FFS indeed. If you don’t like the tool, don’t fucking use it. You wouldn’t tell a beginner mountaineer to go and climb Mount Everest with zero knowledge or experience and expect them to survive, would you? No. You’d tell them to take on an appropriate challenge for their skill level with the necessary tools to help them improve. The same can be said about music production. You wouldn’t tell a beginner music producer with little to zero knowledge to go out and make a masterpiece with a 40 piece orchestra, multi-layered drums, and perfectly tuned plugins and vocals and expect them to achieve it out the gate, would you? No. You’d tell them to take on an appropriate challenge for their skill level with the necessary tools to help them improve. People don’t magically start out masters of any trade. They need help and a starting point. This tool is help and a starting point. And even for more experienced people like myself with 2 decades of music production under their belt it’s nice to have when you just want to spark an idea here or there. “FFS”

Technology is slowly making the human species a brainless entity.
@IAMLXGEND7 күн бұрын
Not really. But you’re making yourself a brainless entity if you’re letting technology take over everything for you. Blame yourself. I’ve been using tools like this for decades. Im also a professional employed musician and have been for almost 3 decades. I have yet to see how this or anything like it has made me brainless. If anything, it helped me increase my playing skills enough to get the gigs I currently get and have.

Quick question: When you master, will the vocal plug ins remain after the mastering? Or do you have to put them back in?
@IAMLXGEND7 күн бұрын
Not sure what you mean by "put them back on". When you master your songs, you're just adding a plugin to the master bus, or in the case of instant mastering, you're just uploading your exported song with all of the plugins into the website or service that masters the song for you. Neither of these options remove the plugins from your music. Only you can manually do that.

What I'm actively against is when people just type in a prompt and the ai generates the whole "song" and the user uploads it and calls themself a musician when all they did was type. I agree AI can be good with suggestions and actually helping instead of making the whole thing
