I find this lacking after having done this for years and years now. Here is a bit of advice that ive found to be a game changer. Get a small cup of oil and a blow torch, plier to hold the wrench and lastly a piece of sandpaper. Heat the wrench up until it gets bright cherry red and than quench the wrench in the oil. Now this next bit is important so dont skip it. Take the sand paper and buff all the burnt carbon off of the wrench until its shiney again. Get it all off. Than your goin to hold the wrench with the pliars a good bit further from the flame. Rotate the wrench so your heating the wrench very slowly and heating it up as evenly as possible. Slow and even is the key. Once the wrench begins to blue, quench it in the oil again and buff it until its shiney. You now habe a wrench thats been heat treated and tempured and is now much more resiliant and closer to spring steel. Its going to make a world of difference i promise.

In the 1980 S I could impression a BMW in five minutes and I could do the same thing with sabb and VW and I have had the same file for over 30 years and it has never let me down and the only thing I need is a file with a small pair of vice grips and the proper key blank I’m very good at impressions. The most important thing to remember never oil the lock while doing this because it will make it hard to to get to see the marks.

Newby lock sport person here. But I was a (Cdn. & U.S.A.), patent attorney and registered patent agent, (retired 14 years ago). I may be able to offer some searching tips for patent searches. We often searched the technical literature and archaic patent resources during novelty searches often to discover prior art which we used to invalidate patents for infringement lawsuits and many other uses. Novelty is an essential requirement for a patent. For example, the South African patent office and Belgian offices were wonderful for discovering all manner of invaluable obscurities. Etc. (for example all of Jacque Yves Cousteau's patents were technically invalid because his technology had been discovered and patented in the 1860's by another inventor. No one had discovered this information until long after his patents had expired). Feel free to contact me if you wish more information. Just had another thought, Old patent litigation reports may yield additional valuable information. Also, Scientific American magazine (first published Aug. 1845). may be a good search resource for old technology.

Very interesting video, replete with scholarship and knowledge Thanks. The figure at 29:26 is a diagram from a U.S. patent. What is the patent number? Thanks. The Schlage key that you displayed is not patentable. It is not a new idea and can be shown that such keys were well known over a hundred years ago So the patent requirement of novelty is not met. In addition, the addition of the right angled accretion may be useful but it does not display sufficient invention to merit a patent. It is "obvious". The concept of three dimensional copy right was thrown out by the courts in England about 20 plus years ago. And it has faced similar difficulties in other jurisdictions since.

That didn't really explain Masterkeying??? You showed how 32 different keys could open that lock (when all you want is two) but didn't explain how a single master-key can open dozens of otherwise unique locks

I purchased a number of the I-Beam type Fichet locks around 1985, still have them, a few Cam Locks as well as a Heavy Duty Rim Cylinder. They hit the US market around the same time as the DOM Dimple Key locks here in the US. Not sure, but I think I recall NJT using the DOM locks on receptacles in the Hoboken Station back in mid 80's. But then both companies just disappeared from the US market. I recall watching a documentary located somewhere in the UK on a sanatorium, using Fichet locks on every door. Again, 1980's. Very, very tough to find those Fichet locks now a days. Every now and then I pull those locks out to have a look. I purchased both the DOM and Fichet from a sales Rep that stopped in once a month with new items for sale. He handled a lot of non US products that were hard to find back then. Name of the company was, Landersman Group, long gone. Still have all my DOM Dimple locks as well. Wish I had purchased more of both lock types.

I just tried to rake a lock with a very high cut spikes, and it stucked dead in my lock and it took me over 30 minutes to manage pulling it out with some other tools and exactly knowledge of what just happened, it turned out that the first spike of the rake went far behind the pins cuz i was doing it with strength, not precision, and because of the high cut rake build I couldn’t just pull it out by turning it a little bit upwards, so, if youre already doing it, make in gentle, without brutality and push that thing too deep in😏 i tried it after that with wery low force and opened it within 5 sec, anyway, im 100% sure if that happened with a one-sided rake it would be much easier to handle this issue, does anybody know why they put 1 or two spikes at the other side?

In case somebody is reading this these days, you should look at the work of KZbin channel "idanhurja". That's another Finnish guy with very creative DIY picks that can open Abloy Classic, Abloy Exec, Abloy Profile, Abloy Easy and Abloy Sento which he openly demonstrates. He also has some videos about Protect but as far as I know, he hasn't yet accomplished blind picking Protec even though he has create a tool that should make it possible. He also put together Abloy Classic handback style lock with Abloy Exec parts inside, which I think was pretty cool hack.

He is the reason I exist in this domain and my content is in a way a direct result/continuum of his work.
