450 psi is piss poor pressure for a Hyd system - Pilots who cowboy and have "Hold my beer" moments shouldn't fly. Limiting maneuvering power is not the answer... Hughes 500 & Bell 407 have done loops and rolls (Hughes has no servos) Even if not certified for such maneuvers the air frames will do them. ( Had a friend loop an OH 6 to beat a Strella ADA missile)

I tried that one time but the gauge flicker makes it unreadable on video

Did you try it with an ND filter on the camera? That should reduce the shutter speed and maybe eliminate the flicker.

Hi there, I love yours videos. In that one, you're talking about 20 ft, is it the height to start the flare or to level the machine before pulling collective? There is another video, youu're saying 100ft to enter a light flare based on the Australian study. I often have trouble judging the height to start the flare... got any tips for me?
@EUROSAFETYTRAINING11 күн бұрын
Very happy that you are finding our videos informative! In the year 2010 video I made about the autorotational landing the 20 ft I referenced was the level. Over the last 20 years I have slightly changed my autorotations and how I explain them. One of the items that I have tweaked is the level. I used to have a little bit more flare and a more pronounced level. But I found that there could be a sink at the end if the level was not performed at the exact correct time. Through experimentation I found if a smaller flare was performed very little level was need and it eliminated the sink. This smaller flare also decreased ground run as the flare lasted longer while keeping NR. ..... regarding finding 100 ft....... If you have a radar altimeter equipped ship... simply come to a 100 foot hover and find a reference to get an idea where its at... of course at the end of the day when descending rapidly its a "in the ball park" thing

i love all things that fly but I have a healthy respect for helicopters. Sure, they can auto rotate but darn does those things sink FAST without an engine..its a one chance thing for landing as I see it..

Yes that was off a different ship.. I actually took that picture a long time ago... but I used the image because it a good picture of an extended pop out indicator.... of course the safety wire is not the point of the video... so we will stay on topic...

And if it’s got a fluid seep, there’s a little shim in there. I’ve seen multiple helicopters come into my MRO with that shim done incorrectly and it’s seeping

Best case is he should have auto'd around to the next bay instead of turning into the first one where he had to flare way to high up.

Those guys should also know they should be detaching the bonding braid from the hub side not the blade side. It says it right in the AMM ref. for removing and installing the blades. That helicoil in the blade can get damaged easily from removing the bolt in and out of it so many times.

Well I suppose the pilot on the left seat is performing the autorotation... can you confirm? Thanks
@sarahcarter355727 күн бұрын
Yes that's correct, you are seeing the view on the side of the instructor. He cuts the throttle and then the movement you see is from the pilot in the right seat and finally the instructor brings the throttle back in when they are on the ground.
@EUROSAFETYTRAINING27 күн бұрын
The instructor in the left seat induced the simulated engine failure... the pilot in the right seat performed the autorotation

As a pilot and as an instructor, I’ve started to realize, that the fact that you are flying a helicopter and can actually land (most times) and safely “solve” the emergency, is too often overlooked. Maybe it’s a military mindset, that has to do with flying over hostile territory.
