I just found this video. I have taught myself to tat using mostly books but couldn’t figure out the folded join. I’m trying to finish a motif that is only rings, so the join is to the center of the motif.

Thank you for the great tutorial. It has helped me out a lot. I am still having issues with pulling the tail through my stitches. I can't figure out why it's happening. I've tried different types of threads, and it's still not pulling through properly. Could it be I'm adding the stitches too tight to the needle? I'm using a size 3 needle and linen thread. Thanks for any tips.
@TheOnlineTattingClass Жыл бұрын
Hello. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. As far as the needle issue my guess is your tatting with a smaller needle than you need to and your putting the stitches on too tight. I would loosen up on the stitches first then if it doesn't get easier then get a larger needle. Go up to the size 5 needle. However in defense of the tatting I would definitely work on loosening the stitches on the needle. A size 3 needle really makes the tatting beautiful.
@heathernichol378 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your advice. I will try loosening the stitches. I tried using a larger needle and still had the same issues, so I believe the tension of my stitches is the problem. Thanks again

Don’t know if you’re still checking comments. I’m curious how do you make say a 2nd true ring as your next element? Do you have to cut the first ring from the ball to be able to work with a new tail end? Thank you so much for this video. It was clear and concise and I was able to duplicate it easily. I’m definitely a newbie. Cheers from FL😺

Hi Carol. I have that answer for you in video form. I now run The Online Tatting Class Georgia Seitz started well over 23 years ago. got an email this morning on this question and I am going to give you a link to the class channel so you can peruse to your heart's content. We do both shuttle and needle classes however currently we do not have a needle teacher and I can only take you as far as the videos are concerned of what is on the site. Pam Hemenway is our needle tatting teacher but currently she is needing new equipment and the funding just isn't there for it right now. However she can answer any question you may need answered. If I use a smaller size thread will my project be stiffer?
@BeginningTattingVideoSeries Жыл бұрын
it will help however the thread you use has a lot to do with stiffness of a piece as well as how tight you tat. There are many factors pertaining to stiffening. These are just a few.

@@BeginningTattingVideoSeries oh right. I try tatting tight knots. But not sure about the thread. Can you suggest please ☺️

@@priclix Yes. Lizbeth from Handy Hands is really a high quality thread for tatting especially needle tatters. Any nylon or polyester thread will work as well. Those are my go to threads depending on what the pattern is used for.
