Thank you! I def understand the terms better now! I guess what happens with my work is that I make the ring, RW. make the chain. RW and when I start to make my next ring, it's like everything is twisted and then when I try to close the 2nd ring, the chain and 2nd ring sort of "become one" twisted mess! LOL.. not sure if I'm supposed to alternate between the ball thread and the shuttle thread? And if so, how could you ever tat using just one shuttle? LOL... I guess I should just be thrilled that I got the "flip" down! Hahaha! Thanks for all of your help!

So glad those videos helped. As far as using one shuttle to tat with, I will tell you as you progress you will find that instead of a ball attached you will use 2 shuttles. The second shuttle being used like the ball thread because of the technique to be done using a ball of thread it doesn't work. You will also find there is patterns where you will use like 4 or 5 shuttles. I have seen patterns that used up to 25 shuttles at one time, and then there is a technique you can do using just one lonely shuttle and no ball thread. But that is techniques not to worry about at this time. Once you begin to advance and understand more you will learn new and advanced techniques that will amaze you. Like I have said before with tatting there is no end to the things you will learn and it is very versatile and the more you learn the more you will be able to do with it and make use of it on more complex ways. Just remember with as many different colors of thread available there is as many different techniques. :)

Hi tamie, I just wanted to thank you for your videos, I've been needle tatting for a couple of months, mainly doing a heart I learned on KZbin and a butterfly I saw on pintrest, enlarged and then counted the stitches, tweeked it many times, and thanks to you, was able to get the basics of the shuttle, especially the " flip " and now understand how to take what I could do with a needle and now do with a shuttle, I know there is still much to learn and now will be able to take the basics and apply them to many beautiful things available. Hi Thanks for the tat-along. This is a cute pattern. Just as a suggestion to the designer, I think if you place a extra small joining picot between the 2nd to last ds of each ring and the 2nd ds of the next ring it will stabilize the rings without distorting the shape. A join at the top wouldn't be necessary but it would have the added benefit of being able to run the antennas through it at the end to keep them in front of the work.
