The abyss I look at the drops of rain Like tears on my window pane Hypnotic stream On the edge of a dream Mirror in mirror Within - the quiet sound A brooding song Comforting sadness - friendship Suspended on a shallow breath I stand on the edge I dream, I fear, I hope I live, I die- I clutch On a moonless day On the edge of time On the edge Looking in

I too had a family member who was schizophrenic. She was off the charts intelligent. When she went to college, her condition got worse and she could not finish. Her life time goal was to find a cure for cancer, but that never happened. Medications in 1986 were non existent except for lithium. Tragically, it was cancer that killed her. She was only in her mid fifties.

Being able to ask for help, finding the right medication that works for you, finding the right therapist, and the right methodes..well, you need a huge amount of luck, money and supporting parents...for all your life...unfortunately, it is very rare to have alll these things, this is why so many scysophrenic people can not get better.

LOVE this organization and your work! One thing I would say that I personally do not understand, is how to allow people with schizophrenia to trust the system that works. A lot of our unhoused in Philadelphia who have schizophrenia are unmedicated by the belief that the government or another entity is making them take it, so they refuse and go into a life without it. I wonder what we can do for them?

the problem these days is the republicans keep cutting disability which is a way for disabled folks to get help from the government. bringing back those benefits could help.

The only thing I would add is it’s much better for the patient to say “I have schizophrenia but it’s managed well on medication” rather than “medication cured my schizophrenia”. It’s very common for these patients to stop taking their mental health medications because they think they’re cured and don’t need to take meds anymore, which always leads to a relapse deep into their mental illness leading to rehospitalization or worse. Also, some of the antipsychotics are wildly expensive and may have severe side effects for some patients.
@gigi93015 күн бұрын
Agreed; also, those of us with severe mental health issues tend to drink alcohol or pick up other addictions in order to "self-medicate". I have been switched around to so many different antidepressants that it would be laughable if I weren't speaking about my own life. Bethany is incredibly fortunate to have such strong comfort from her parents; so many of us don't have understanding, caring , and unwavering support. That's unfortunate but I'm doing my best to seek out positive relationships and enrichment as an adult, while moving away from negative influences.

shes right doctors know so less about mental illnesses, theres a medical doctor in my family that used to scare me off saying how i look anorexic and an anorexic , yes i was but nobody knew about it but this doctor chose to mock and ridicule me, patronise the illness itself which is pathetic

My grandparents are just pissed about them not telling anyone about what was going on and why they released me from the hospital. My mom finally called for a welfare check because she was getting all my mail. I was off in another universe, thinking that if you had sex, you would be covered in your hydrogen and not make into the fifth sun. I was a carrion flower destined to end this universe. I proved the hydrogen thing by following people around and seeing them in the negatives of my phone's camera. I thought Obama was a demon king and green, Putin was my father, Indra, God, and husband and a drunk. Kinky. I had false insight back then. Not only, but since it started a long time ago, it's part of my personality, so have fun with that one.

Hi Christine, Thanks for your question. Steve was 67 years old when receiving the transplant. People living with pulmonary fibrosis might experience different journeys, so treatment options might also vary from one person to another. Kind regards, Helen

My sister died of Fibrosis of the Lung at 48 years old. At the time, I felt her treatment was incorrect, in so far as 25 years ago, they gave her several variations of anti-biotics. There are new medications now for this conditions to slow it down, and there is self help, in so far as to exercise (walk on flat) if you can. Eat well, fruit (pineapples, berries), room temp at no lower than 18 degrees. Vitamin C, D, Omega. In bed, lie on your side, with head above chest. As a Massage Therapist, effleurage (gentle stroking) on the back to relieve congestion with almond oil (but not on the bone ie. spine). I have just found out one of my friends has the early stages of the condition.
