Hi Ben. I hope you are well and are resting. I just found your channel and wanted to thank you for the outstanding back catalogue. Anyway just so you know, you have fulfilled a life long ambition for me with your Hill Street Blues tutorials - for which I will be eternally grateful for. Hopefully see you back in time when you are ready. Best regards to you.

Just wanted to reach out after finally getting to your channel and viewing MANY of your vids! As a performer, producer and jr content maker (mostly IG) I certainly understand the burnout of the process and have a huge appreciation for the content and approach you took to teaching these songs. Since we're both of similar age and appreciation of all things 70s/80s/EVH/etc., you should definitely check out the Midnight Special performance of this song that H&O did. Just found your channel reply like it -I am 53 years old and going to to get through Alfred’s 1 piano course then through Alfred’s 2- 3 piano course --meanwhile to supplement piano learning go to channels like yours to play some of my my favorite rock classics just by playing -and then use KZbin to learn basic theory and chord progressions and piano exercises…

@@BenBennett10 my name's Daz. I started piano where i was about 8yo. Parents put my into classical lessons. Completed Grade 4, and then kinda stopped. Have only played randomly since then, but now keen to get back into it. Still have my nice Emerson at home. Your story resonates with me.

The arpeggio on the second should be C-E-G, you’re playing a D.

The sound of this song is Ed's Steinway piano with a MIDI connection on the back with the synthesized sounds added to the origijnal signal. Great sound!

Thank you for the comment and additional education! I appreciate it!!
@echo14343 ай бұрын
I would also recommend watching the Bridge School benefit version of this song, where it's just Eddie on piano and Sammy on vocals. Eddie adds some cool embellishments, but you can see his hands a lot of the time and hear the sound "naked" clear as a bell. Also, the Live Without a Net version is killer, on which Eddie plays as well.
@BenBennett103 ай бұрын
Awesome!! Thank you for the suggestions!!

Avid Van Halen music-nerd here, just have to point out that the 9th note of the right hand part of the main melody should be an E, but it's being played with a D here. Kudos on showing the proper left hand bass part, but also Part 4 is simplifed compared to the original (losing the cool rhythm). Finally the song modulates from C major to F major as the fifth and final part, with the main melody starting on the next F up (satisfyingly related to the middle parts which are in D minor, which is F minor's relative). There will be a B flat in the mix now instead of a B, so a little more difficult for beginners.
@BenBennett103 ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes, I realize that I have simplified the part - as I do with most of the tutorials on my channel. I try to make them so that people that aren't as experienced on the keyboards can still make the sound and play the song ALMOST like the original. Happy to have you here at the channel with me!!
