Color Splash does have some serious problems, but they don’t stop the game from being up there with Ttyd in my heart. The world and set pieces feel the most real and alive out of all the games(in my opinion). The one thing that could have made the game absolutely perfect is if they went all in on the cards and instead made it a deck builder. Imagine finding a jump card and instead of being a consumable, it was a permanent addition to your deck. You could make all kinds of cool builds! It would also make battling enemies actually worth it because they have a chance of dropping a card that could be a game changer to your play style. If they went down this route they would genuinely have a battle system to rival Ttyd’s. Enemy cards could be summons, and thing cards would be nerfed because you would actually have to draw them. With some changes this could have been awesome, but sadly we got a mediocre battle system instead.

I’ve recently come to accept that the first three games are Toadsworth writing heightened re-telling pop-up books of Mario’s grand adventures, while the last three are the kids he reads them to messing around with his art supplies. It makes for a comforting headcanon.

To explain the whole chapter 4 thing with the snowman his wish caused the eternal blizzard from what I could gather meaning that the reason it's always cold there was cuz of his wish though I could be wrong.

After the first 3 games, the other games had elements they couldve used to combine with the trilogy and surpass it. Like you said before, if super had the charm and combat system of the first 2, then add the great story to it, but the improved visuals of the layer games, it was a missed opportunity. They had the blueprint.

Goomoto is a pretty good idea; one idea I had in mind, though, was this could be an excellent means to bring back the Goom Boss! After the events of the first game, Goom Boss had been in hiding for years, afraid to show his face to Bowser after his miserable defeat. Then, after the royal sticker lands on his doorstep, literally, he uses its power to the full extent, forcing the surrounding area to fall under his monarchy and hoping to prove his worth to Bowser once more.

The critique of the final chapers' fights being too easy based on you leveling up heavily from what's supposed to be post-story challenges feels like a weird thing to judge on.

Low-key would love to see Nintendo release this game but with an improved battle system and actual character designs, put it on the switch or switch 2!

The change I would make is having Peach and Bowser getting an annulment and then the Chaos Heart goes "Understandable, have a nice day" and leaves. See, it's their union that brought forth the Chaos Heart, so if we can prove that the marriage was invalid (which we can since Nastasia forced Peach to accept it), then it should leave. Narrative stakes say no, but it would be funny.

I like how you used kersti having her be the same just with a few tweaks and I just find it sad that you find out her past at the end of the pit of 100 trials since you would probably tackle it as post game content and by then kersti is already dead and gone

okay so Olivia might be my favorite Mario character ever, but i forgot that she dies because it feels like something formulaic to happen in the end of the game. But this video reminded me not only that she dies but also why i love her so much, of all the cute little things she does or talks about like when she remember that she can float and therefore is not affected by the ground shaking, so being reminded that she not only dies but kills herself makes me kinda emotional given how young she is and how much life she had left to live. So you are officially forgiven for insulting the greatest game ever AKA sticker star

I played a fair amount at a friend's house as a kid and it always fascinated me with the comic panel story telling. I'm not sure we ever beat it but it stuck in my mind.

Your rewrite of Sticker Star is millions times better than the original. If this game was delayed by two years, they’d have enough time to improve everything, including the combat and the plot elements. I could see this game coming out in 2014 instead of 2012.

The fact that Sticker Star lacks exp is so frustrating. Exp, in general, upgrades your stats. Without them, how could you win? Exp helps the player overcome the game's challenges. In Sticker Star, since there's no exp, it's hard to adapt to the difficulty spikes. Imagine if Persona fusions were absent in Persona 5. Imagine if Phoenix Downs were absent in FF7. Imagine if there was a rpg where the only attack is your weapon.

Bought the DK SNES bundle in December of that year. The whole thing came in a DK crate. Mum made me do the rest of the shopping (food, clothes) for the rest of the afternoon with her. All whilst I had the console and game in my hands. 30 years later I still remember that being the Longest Afternoon Ever.

The whole video just feels like you saying how much you don't like any version of the game... you don't like the meta story, you don't like the gb/gbc versions, you don't like the gba additions... you don't like dkl.. dang. I thought this was your favorite series

The reason for the changes to the story in the GBA port might've been because Rare had hoped to continue the DK franchise on the GBA (and after DKC3, the DS) as Microsoft didn't care what they did for handhelds since they had no interest in handheld gameing, hence why we got Banjo Pilot. I do know that they wanted to make Donkey Kong Country 4 as a DS only title, however their success with the GBA ports apparently convinced Nintendo that DKC4 would be too major to NOT be on a mainline console. As a result the GBA version of the trilogy were probably made to fit more inline with DK64's tone and continue the ongoing conflicts between the Kong family & the Kremling army after DK64 by shifting it from console to handheld, only for Nintendo to killing off Rare's long-term plan because of their continued success with the franchise.

I just want to say that Sticker Star was my first Paper Mario game and I never beat it. But in my honest opinion, it’s a decent game that has a lot of bad things about it that should’ve been changed. But hey, if people say a video game is bad, I usually will try to find some positive things about the game, especially if I played the game and didn’t play earlier games in the series.

I was here for the Paper Mario stuff but I really liked the Donkey Kong Country retrospective, it had a unique perspective and I liked how you had a section about your perspective on its story and the remakes.
