My experience would tell me to buy second hand equipment as you are going to trash it a bit while learning, especially the kite. Assist from that you need some time on the water to appreciate different types of kites before spending good money on them. As for lessons, 4-5 hours of instructions should be sufficient to know what not to do. The rest is just practice, practice, practice... Enjoy

i kept my boards (lightwind and average wind boards -2008-) for 10 years (until stolen), harnesses ( 2007 and 2012) dont wear down much, my main kite until stolen had 150 days out, mesh suit tend to last, neoprene ones ( cold area) not so much. used stuff works well , for the kite u can get one that has 1-2years and save a lot of money, boards u can buy whatever is out the last 8 years.(and u can get them cheap), i use the same kite/harness for snowkiting.

It’s not a cheap sport… but if you save some bucks that can be overcome. It’s the time and flexible schedule you really need to consider. You need to give up time & do so when the wind and conditions are right!!

Hello,I'll be in Miami for a holiday frome 2nd February to 15th. I would like get some kite's days there. It's my first vacation in US and I need some spots without IKo level I have a medium level but thank you
@learnhowtokitesurf4 ай бұрын
Hey Tarek! Adventure Sports Miami has a good flat water spot. It's great for all levels. If you're not Level 1 they can certify you for $30 bucks. Or you could take a supervised lesson with them. Dania Beach Pier In Hollywood FL, is a spot that requires No IKO. It's off the beach but it can get pretty choppy. It's about a 45-minute drive North of Miami. Anne's Beach in the Keys is a good spot with no certification requirements. It's a flat water spot too. If you would like I can put you in touch with a friend of mine down there?

On the sandbars. you may see Nurse Sharks but they're pretty harmless. I would say the man o' wars and urchins are what could ruin your kite sesh.

Hei man, thanks a lot for your work and info! So ahrd to find about Kitesurfing in Mexico. Do you have any spot tips for Tulum? :) Would appreciate very much :)
@learnhowtokitesurf7 ай бұрын
Tulum has a couple schools down the beach. You will be able to spot them. I would say it's an intermediate spot because of the waves. It's a cool area but it is pricey.

Can you recommend a kiteboarding school? I did a course in El Cuyo last year, but just got thrashed by the waves for two days so it was hard to learn anything.
@learnhowtokitesurf8 ай бұрын
If you're Miami, Adventure Sports Miami. They have 3 retail stores and their school is located in Matheson Hammock Park. Great spot to learn. No waves and it's shallow. If you go back to Mexico go to Isla Blanca. That's the best spot. Ikarus kiteboarding and Wind Nomads are good schools there. For other schools in Florida, you can find them in the video description.

Thanks, how is the water depth at these locations for foiling?
@learnhowtokitesurf9 ай бұрын
St. Petes and Islandmorda are shallow but it's doable depending on the tide and mast size. The rest of the spots have deep water so it won't be an issue.

Thanks for this video. Only question - I have seen others like this and they are all performed in shallow water which makes the whole thing go much easier since you can stand and provide resistance. I often find myself needing to do a light wind relaunch in deeper water on my foil board. Any tips for that situation? I struggle to get the kite to the edge of the wind window. Thanks
@learnhowtokitesurf Жыл бұрын
It's definitely harder in deep water. In very light wind it's best to hot launch it in the power zone if you can get the kite onto its trailing edge. Also getting the foil on your feet and in front of you will give you a bit more tension in the lines. I'll be making a video on how to flip the kite onto the trailing edge soon.
@mikemiller7749 ай бұрын
Exactly, works nice in shallows. As for deep: 1.Sheet out and keep pulling one steering line to get kite on a side of wind window. 2. Basically if you can make kite stand on one side on the windows edge while still drifting downwind - give center lines a few pulls. If you can balance - sit on a foil board, that will help with line tension. As shown in video, hot launch is also an option for deep water, just need lines tension.

Yep, its a great technique to know and practice. I ride in FL, and summertime breezes are generally very light, so I’m flying 15m or 17m kites and use these methods to relaunch when needed. Good demonstration.
