Caution -- Too much soap will cause too much aeration / bubbles which in turn will ruin the water pump. The Evinrude manual states this and I know its true.

I'm a fisherman from Hawaii and the best product to run thru your engine is " Salt Away" is dissolves the salt and it great to clean your whole boat and gear with. I do believe that running your motor in a barrel is great bc it can suck as much water it wants to, instead of those suction cup things. Coming from Hawaii we need to deal with things like even salt air that can destroy radiators on your can just parking it at the boat ramp. Salt Away is a good product that I exclusively use. The sell a a product that's like a fertilizer that connects to the end of your hose, giving it the right mixture to clean any surface affected by salt.

I run my 50 horse Yamaha in the Indian river, which is considered salt water. About every three or four months, I fill a 100 gallon tub with water and add about 6 gallons of vinegar and several good squirt of Dawn dish detergent, cranking my motor and letting it run for about 20 minutes at 1500 RPMs. It seems to eat all deposits from the water, jacket and thermostat housing, then I empty the tub and flush with regular fresh water. What do you think about that???

Why not just use saltaway? It's a great product for all of your boat. If you keep her nicely polished up, saltaway is a dream to use and doesn't kill that beautiful shine

Good video. Like you say there's some guys that never flush them. I bought an old Johnson that has been in salt, and was obviously never flushed. I had to pull the power head off to fix the water feed pipe and it took me 10s of hours to extract all the bolts that broke on removal and fix the corroded through and blocked water feed pipe. I also had to scrape out the water inlet in the foot to keep it from plugging up the cooling system with corrosion. Luckily I'm not near salt water so that poor motor will likely never see the ocean again.

I use CLR. I toss a gallon in the drum and leave it running for 30 mins. Then flush again with fresh water.

I like the idea of using the 55 gallon yard can, I was curious how you get the water out after you’re done, as it’s probably pretty full and not much room to dump it.

I installed a 3/4" ball valve in the bottom of mine. Yes very heavy I left the outlet of the ball valve unglued so I could dry fit a piece of pipe to route the water where I needed to . Hope this helps .
