Great video! I'm so glad I found it just now. I just came from Gander Mountain. They wanted $10.00 for two 80lbs mono leaders. The family is heading out fir some saltwater fishing this weekend. I'm gonna put your video to use before we leave.

Why all the crimping when you could simply tie on the swivel and hook?

Similar to the "fish finder" rigs I use for striper. You can use your own leader, it allows the weight to slide, and makes it easier to set the hook.

Now a video about why not use crimps. Instead use polamar knots for the swivles and snell knots for the hooks because of crimps failing and causing trophy fish loses. I lost so many fish last week in pascagoula, I made me up some stainless wire rigs with stingers using trebles for my live mullet minnows. No more sheepshead or sharks to cut my redfish rig now! And no more loses. More difficult for crabs to steal the bait too!

Have you thought about using a longer loop on the swivel end? That way you could thread the main line through the crimp, the barrel weight and the barrel swivel, then loop it back through the barrel weight then use the crimp and the barrel swivel as the stoppers for the weight. Then do the hook end like normal. That way the weight can be as long or as short as you want to make it.

Holy thats some heavy tackle...I use 20 lb flurocarbon with 50 lb braid. I love lighter tackle if you use your drag correctly you'll never break off a fish.
@myfriendphineas6 жыл бұрын
COLDDEAD HAND A 1k sized spinning reel with 10 lb. braid, matched to a 4-10lb. rod, with 30 lb. leader is actually lighter tackle, and more efficient at landing a larger fish, than a 20lb. leader on a Penn 500 loaded with 50lb. braid on an ugly stick.......

Those Boone crimpers are junk because of the pyramid shaped end, narrowing to a point - see 2:55. You need the AFW or HiSeas, which are consistent in thickness across the jaws. And they're the same price, about $30, as this Boone junk. Or if you want top of the line, Jinkai SC3C for $75.

Heads up, when making a demo video , 3 things are vital; light, sound & picture framing focus, your sound is good but your picture frame is really bad, I had to take your word for the crimps, couldn’t see it. You could have used a close up ,just framing your hands so we can see it, lastly when making table top demo, use 3 lights one left side one right side, one overhead… use Walmart clamp on lights with reg. Typing paper cloths pinned over it for soft indirect lighting, it eliminates all shadows, good info Thanks, Shalom!

Why so heavy? I’m catching reds on 15LB braid and a 30lb mono leader with a 3 or 4 here in south Texas. 3/4oz max. No fun to fish with this heavy ass shit. Probably using 50lb on the main with a huge ass reel. That’s no fun.
@66bigbuds6 жыл бұрын
If you put the weight on the main line the way they're made to be used, the fish doesn't feel the weight.

Unless you're targeting bulls, 80# is total overkill. No reason to crimp a leader, totally unnecessary, just tie to swivel. Never ever ever tie a knot in your leader. Finally, if you need a weight IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR LEADER, just shorten your leader lol. There's no reason that slide weight can't sit ABOVE your swivel. That way, if current picks up, you can easily change out your weight. With this setup, you need a completely new leader to change weight. Oh yea, lead weights are available in all weights in the egg shape. I have some that are 32oz so...🤷♂️

Seems like a lot of work. Run a singer and bead on mainline, tie a swivel on with a Palomar knot. Tie your leader to the swivel and hook to the leader . Why all the crimping? I'm asking honestly. Not being a smart ass. Maybe I been missing our on some benefits of crimps
